I agree. This is a nice video. I live in North-Central NJ not too far from that airport. I couldn't tell from the video, but it's possible you may have flown near my house (though high above it). I wish I wasn't so afraid to fly. I'd be doing this, too. :(

@Spayne007 gotcha gotcha...I was just wondering. When I was going through my training my instructor drilled me with slipping turns to landing. He always made me make sure to have enough altitude to make the runway if the engine failed anywhere in the pattern, especially on final when we were already near Vbg. Idk if you practice insane slips to landing, but give em a try if not! They're great fun and very good training. Happy flying to ya, sir!

@Spayne007 I have heard of that being an issue with the Cherokee :( I like to put on 20 degrees of flap and slip as much as I want (if necessary) then hit the last 10 degrees if I want on short final. Where about are you based? I'm in Northern Michigan...yay snow :p

@Dac719 you should try it some day. A few people I know started out afraid and now they have become pilots.

nice flying but how come you flew such a low, flat final approach?

@64wing I do like to slip to landing, unfortunately the Cherokee doesn't have a whole lot of rudder authority to really drop altitude fast. Throwing in full flaps does a good job to help. The cherokee's poh allows slips at full flaps unlike a c172 where they are prohibited. I've found the c172 slips better regardless.

@64wing The cameras lens has a 170degree viewing angle which makes objects that are close in the peripheral, appear closer, and objects that a far appear further. That might have something to do with it. I try to stay within gliding distance of the runway at all times while in the traffic pattern for obvious reasons but will sometimes fly a lower approach when aiming for a specific touch down point such as the numbers in this video.

yes this is a 69 140b, they are solid airplanes

@Spayne007 I know some people who had that same sentiment also. It's all in how you are introduced to flying. I bet if you came out and flew with me I could fix you in a day! lol :) Aviation is really too great to just give up on for the rest of your life. I don't know where I'd be without it and the people I've met because of it!

@Spayne007 Ever since I was a kid, I've always been afraid to fly. Before 9/11, I thought the plane I go on will be the one that suddenly loses control and crashes. Post-9/11, I now think the plane I go on will be hijacked by terrorists and crashes into a building or some other landmark. Don't get me wrong. I love airplanes, big or small, and I love watching them. But, flying in one...no, thanks. I'm also afraid of heights, which further says why I won't fly.
