An example of flying a simple instrument circuit and ILS approach in the Analogue Baron in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The ILS took us very close to some trees on final approach, but otherwise a wonderful test of the instruments and behaviour of the Baron. Along the way we take a look at the engine modelling and fly somewhat more correctly than we have in the past.
Apologies for the loud engine volume - if anything, this is a good example of how loud a real GA aircraft is :)

Apologies for the loud engine volume - if anything, this is a good example of how loud a real GA aircraft is :) Also - guess who forgot to re-open the cowl flaps on approach, and forgot to switch off the magentos! :) (also - on watching back - notice how approach mode loses the glideslope in the last quarter mile?)

Got the same problem with the AP loosing the glideslope on short final, althought the annunciator panel said COUPLED and GS

@@renefeijen5916 To be fair, you shouldn't be on approach mode in the last quarter mile anyway - at about 500 feet, should have called it (in the real world) :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Finally!! Someone who, like me, takes the simulator as a serious tool to learn to fly properly and not as a stupid game!! I've taken and passed the PP ground school but only have maybe 11 hrs actual left seat time. FSX (I have the steam version on my PC) allows me to have the enjoyment of flying while I apply what I've learned in both the PP couse and the commercial course. I'm 65 so won't ever finish real training. Through FSX I now have accrued 140+ hours in both night and instrument flight and a total of over 4500 hours flight time on my FSX Sim. Indiana, USA.

Many modded aircraft provide checklists based on what that aircraft simulates. Most of the time there in the files of the aircraft. These black square mods have checklists I have the baron and king air. The 310 from milvz (blackbird) and then 414 are a few to name.

Bravo sir. As a Pilot i have learned more about ils ifr and vor flight from your videos and can put them to practice like you said in a safe environment then i learned in all of ground school and over 192 hours of flight time. Thank you soo much for all of your content and efforts you have made my sim and real life flight experience a more fun and educated experience. And i think you handle the aircraft brilliantly in the sim. Everybody has opinions mine is please continue sir as much as your work and family will allow thank you for all you do.

Don't worry about being "perfect" on everything when it comes to multiple aircrafts in MSFS. You're not a pilot and it's just a simulator. On that note, you are a good teacher and your videos are fun to watch. I have all 4 steam gauge planes and find the Bonanza the most fun to fly. They are all great though and there's much to learn on each. I flew the default G1000 Baron after flying the steam gauge Baron for a week and I better understood how to trim the mixture and reading the info in the G1000 as I learned a lot with the steam gauge,

That’s great ! Just a few tips if you like….. After take-off and cleaning up the aircraft, props 2.500 RPM - 31” manifold (depending if it’s a turbo or not), at final move the props to full fine (fully forward) because you might need full performance in case of a go-around😊

I got into sim flying off my older brother who was exquisite with his adherence to protocols and procedures. That was a long while ago when we were still on FS-98. These days though my brother loves to E-start engines and buzz other players with his F-18 or some other fast craft. I found he's more into MSFS to relax and have fun more than anything and I can't blame him for that. I'm still into correct procedures and all and growing gray by the day. So, I guess its all a matter of how one prefers to use the sim - as after all, its a Sim! I absolutely enjoy and appreciate your style, Jon. Keep churning them, mate.

Did you leave the mag switches both on? The reason extra care is needed to cool down after a flight in turbo charged engine equipped plane is to cool the turbos. If shut down too soon, the oil in the plain bearing between the hot side and cold side of the turbo will cook. As that happens carbon deposits accumulate there and eventually the turbo will be harder and harder to turn until it seizes up. Your A&P mechanic may be successful in freeing them up by removing the oil inlet hose and putting a special penetrating solvent in there to soak a while. Then he will try to turn it by hand. BTW, a Baron crashed shortly after take off from Lubbock, Texas this month. Burned on impact.

I’m not a pilot but it my understanding that on climb and decent the prop levers should be fully forward? It may be a good idea to see what the manual says.
@jonbeckett

It's strangely sparse about that - I was looking for that too. A real-world baron pilot recently shared the pilot check-out guide for the baron with me - that has tables of numbers for climb and descent. You can grab a copy from the VirtualFlight.Online Discord server.

Don't you crank the gas lever before turning on your fuel boost pump (so that you could verify your fuel pressure on the fuel flow gauge ? and so that you would really prime your engine...). That's what I personaly do... But perhaps I'm wrong.
