As a South African I am proud of what Ethiopian Airlines achieved. Our SAA airlines used to be the best in Africa and it is one of the oldest airlines in the world. Since ANC came to power they have bankrupted SAA and many state institutions. No more railways, electricity supply is random and country as a whole is being mismanaged. We almost have no hope for the future. SA had so much potential to become a world player and now our government and presidents are an embarrasment. Sam did not actually report on how Ethiopian Airlines became Africa's best airline but I am sure it is because the people in charge are honourable, and truly take pride of their country and what they have achieved. They are building their nation to be the best in Africa. If only our government can do the same and stop its corruption and selfish actions. Well done Ethiopia! Would love to visit your country and learn from you.

A lot of people don’t know this but a African American named John Robinson establish a pilot training school in Ethiopia. After arriving in 1935, Robinson initially conducted pilot training at a recently opened officer training school close to Addis Ababa. He also played a role in the foundation of Ethiopian Airlines. Most importantly In January 1935, Robinson announced his intentions to volunteer to defend Ethiopia in its ongoing conflict with Italy. Robinson was then named the commander of the Ethiopian Air Force.

As a Somali going back home for the 1st time, which is technically Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines was such an amazing experience. Definitely proud of my brothers next door.

As a Nigerian, watching this video makes me so proud of Ethiopia.

I flew first class on Ethiopian from Los Angeles to Cape Town, South Africa. Via Dublin, Addis then Cape Town. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent training and safety (I don't blame the 737 Max accident on Ethiopian). Agree, the footwell was small and at 6' 3" and size 12 US feet I couldn't lie all the way flat on the 787. From Addis to Cape Town was on a 777 which was older but much larger/longer first class seat. Also, the best coffee I have ever had was from Ethiopia (both on the plane and in the Addis lounge. A must try! Thanks for bringing back the memories, Sam!

As a South African, I envy how efficient and well run Ethiopian Airline is. Our national carrier (South African Airways) has been run so badly that we simply cannot compete against Ethiopian. Ethiopian Airlines is the epitome of an African success story and testimony to the fact that Africa is not a poor continent. Ethiopian Airlines has more aircraft in it's fleet than Swiss Airlines Scandinavian Airlines Services Air Austria or Air Belgium. Yet it provides the same top notch service as Singapore Airlines. Concurrently Ethiopia has 25 mega infrastructure projects which it is rolling out as we speak. Ethiopia is the role model for many African as well as Caribbean countries that have African roots. I remember that hi-jacking when the pilot crash landed in the ocean after running out of fuel. Although it was a terrible incident, I think it really helped Ethiopian Airlines onto the global map.. because given those circumstances, that pilot did such an amazing job.. and many people around the world respect what he did and the eventual outcome ( as bad as it was ).. It could've been much worse. Also that issue with Boeing 737 MAX MCAS system where Boeing tried to blame the dead pilots for the crash when it was in fact Boeing's fault. Although they did eventually admit to it.. the damage to Boeing had already been done.. whereas Ethiopian airlines once again redeemed itself. I will NEVER trust Boeing again after how they treated Ethiopian ( and Lion Air ) pilots. I'm glad Boeing are facing the consequences for their actions ( trust can only be regained if those responsible are prosecuted.. ) which hasn't happened yet ) ..After both those incidents Ethiopian Airlines have come out better, stronger and are much loved by the flying public.. Keep up the great work.

Had a great flight in first class from Cape Town to Addis Ababa and they quickly put me up in a wonderful hotel for the night before my flight to the Seychelles the next day. Was very happy with my experience a few weeks ago!

Must be nice...i had to quit flight training (IFR training) because i lacked the funds to finish the entire program. These gentlemen are extremely blessed to have found an airline that would pay for training and also hire you. My deepst respect and admiration

I flew them this summer from Vienna to Addis on the 787 , then on the A350 to Joberg in Business class. The crew was friendly and provided excellent service. There was too much food! This is an organization to be proud of.

Amazing video! The current success of Ethiopian is not from yesterday. They have been working on it for a long time. I remember taking a flight from Addis to Khartoum back in the 90s and was really impressed with the service and new Boeing 737. It was Egyptair that was leading in the region at the time, but now ET have well overpassed them. Ethiopian pilots and their academy always had a good reputation. Ethiopians themselves are a hard working nation with clever people inspite of the economic situation. Still, their GDP per capita has increased by 3 times during the last 11 years. Hope the issues with their probably closest brothers the North Sudanese get resolved very soon for the region to prosper once again. This part of Africa is quite amazing.

In March 2018, we flew Business Class from DUB to ADD in an Ethopian 787-8 and then from ADD to CPT in a 777-300ER. Wonderful flights with excellent food and drink. The cabin service was first class. All together, a great experience.
