Just found Your channel, Sir. Very interesting and breathtaking! Thanks for that! I'm a Student Pilot at the moment, and probably like anyone else, who started flying, I'm thinking of getting a plane. I'm considering few options, which are quite different, one being Sling4Tsi, which would be an experimental aircraft with four seats, and the other one Bristell, which is a two-seat LSA. My question is, what are the restrictions and difficulties flying either experimental or LSA cross-country in Europe. I hope You'd find some time to answer my question. Thanksn in advance, have anice flight :)

Thanks Jon. Can't wait till next Saturday to see the second episode? One question though. The SkyDemon screens you show on your videos are they captured in simulator mode or captured in real time? And if in real time, how do you do that ?
@TheFlyingReporter
@TheFlyingReporter 6 жыл бұрын
Hi. On this flight, I captured the screen in real time, at the time. SkyDemon kept crashing, and so I stopped this, although I don't believe that was the cause of the SkyDemon crashes.

Hi Jon, could you tell me why you had the green plastic strips on the windows, please? Are they a Europe only requirement? Maybe you've had them all the time and I've never noticed them.

another great video 550 fpm so what is significance of /2 and *3? ie why those numbers
@TheFlyingReporter
@TheFlyingReporter 6 жыл бұрын
I don't know! I just know it works...it's one of those great rules of thumb that a mathematician worked out for us dumb pilots. Altitude to lose (6000ft) = 6 x 3 = 18. It will take you 18nm to descend that at a 3 degree descent. You then need to work out your descent rate. Groundspeed divided by 2 x 100 = descent rate in feet per minute. So at 110knots ground speed, your rate of descent will need to be 550fpm for you to descend that height over 18 miles at 3 degrees.
@alexeyalekseev4197

Thank you :-) Will hopefully learn that too during my IMC

aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/31375/what-is-the-maths-behind-the-descent-rate-calculation apparently this is the maths behind it - I'll stick with the "1 in 60 rule" seems much simpler :)
@davejones542
@davejones542 6 жыл бұрын
Alternatively look at you GPS which gives you time to destination (and is already wind adjusted). Calculate your top of descent assuming 500fpm descent which means 2 mins to loose 1000 feet. So if you need to loose 6000feet that is 12 minutes. If your GPS says its 15mins to destination start you descent in 3mins in this example.

Great Video! It looks like it’s going to be a very long day. How many hours flying did you do each day? Do you find that fatigue is an issue towards the end of a long day? I've flown the same first 2 legs from Redhill to Le Touquet and then to La Rochelle before heading to San Sebastian. After 5.5 hours as P1 I certainly needed a break. If you are in that part of the world again, Quiberon is a fantastic spot for an overnight stop. The airport is right in the middle of the coastal village and you can walk from the aircraft to any accommodation. The approach over the sea on to the runway is fantastic. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8yjg9aez6m9cps.html
@TheFlyingReporter
@TheFlyingReporter 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Fatigue wasn't a problem on this trip until we started facing challenging conditions...then I found I had my limits.
@flyingweka
@flyingweka 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know that feeling, when what would normally be minor annoyances start to accumulate it doesn’t take long to feel overwhelmed. Having another pilot in the P2 seat makes a huge difference to long trips over unfamiliar airspace. Having someone to bounce ideas off, man the radio, read the maps and plot diversions helps enormously. Kudos for handling it with a non-pilot passenger. Its refreshing to watch your videos that express both the joy as well as describe the difficult moments in such an honest way.
