Fly with me from Canada to Texas on my ferry flight for Premier Aircraft Sales in one of the ONLY DA40 TUNDRA's in the country!
Day 2 includes my very first time flying in the clouds alone, taking off IFR from Lexington, Kentucky (KLEX) and flying into Bentonville, Arkansas (KVBT) the "Gate of the Ozarks"
If you're looking for a cute town with a diner and lake on the airport, KVBT is a great stop, and is featured on the "Flying Magazine"
Route: KLEX - KVBT

All I Wanted by Voyageur
On a Day Like This by Jordan Frye
Licenses Held:

At some point aviation for me became kind of routine. These videos help me remember the magic and the fun of my early flying. You're going to look back on these videos someday when you've been flying heavies for a number of years and they're going to make you smile. Blue skies!

I also got "the blahs" about flying after a few decades and 9,900 hours of it in jets. I was bored with it and I "quit." But, somehow, the flying universe showed me soaring in high-tech sailplanes, which can never be boring. Every flight is a new challenge. I've now been a "glider" instructor for five years and I love it more than when I first began. And, after all those hours in jets, the longest flight of my career has been in an aircraft with no engine. Flying for hours without an engine cannot ever get "blah" or boring.

Great video Hayley! Right when you were saying ‘you felt all alone but not really because all of you are with me’ I was thinking the same thing. I imagine flying alone has its moments when you think it would be nice to have someone there to talk with. Since you had the cameras, WE were all there with you, and I felt like I was there. Thanks for taking me along, looking forward to the next instalment 🤗

Just discovered your channel. My Dad had your job during the 1950's. He ferried Piper Cubs up and down the East Coast as well as to the Caribbean. After watching you today I suddenly remembered that vivid sensation of *brightness* in the clouds from 65 yrs. ago when he took me up in a Piper Cub out of the North Brunswick (NJ) airport...just the two of us in the sky. He went on to fly L1011's and DC 9's for Eastern Airlines until 1986. I'm adopting you as one of my online granddaughters (only have one IRL). I've subbed/liked, and will pray for your safety as you do the work you obviously love. Cannot wait for more! Sam Daniels.

Nice! My first IFR flight was solo in a rented 172 with very basic instruments. It was above a solid deck with severe clear above, and the sun going down behind me! A truly magical experience. I've been away from flying for a while, and hope to fly again this year; I'm glad to see knee boards and printed checklists still common. BTW: Bentonville AR is also the home of Wal-Mart!

I really enjoyed being able to come along with you on this flight Hayley. I never was able to get into real world aviation but I get your excitement being able to fly above the clouds and see the magic there. It kind of echoes the feeling I had crossing an ocean alone in my sailboat, You see things very few people will ever experience, quite a thing. Thanks for posting.

My oldest niece is a flight instructor with 1000 hours. She learned to fly at a big school with G1000s and left there terrified of flying IFR on steam gauges. It was fun teasing her about that. She can do both now thankfully. LOL Thanks for sharing.

Hi Hayley,, fellow pilot here,,, great video, thanks for sharing. I like how you slow things down to suit your style. I'm wondering tho, safety wise, if it's a good idea to have your bag stored unsecured in front of the seat, the stick rubbed against it when you did the control check and it could possibly be moved forward, perhaps jamming the rudder controls.

I really miss that kind of flying. After 24,000 hrs. of flying nothing but jet transport aircraft, you forget how much fun it used to be. Of course, all we had back then was vacuum driven steam gauges and fixed card ADF. You make this video very pleasant to watch. Good luck to you and stay safe!

I can see your excitement.... or more to the point... your relief that you can see the ground again. I just finished my IFR training, and on one flight (with my instructor) we were in the clouds for over an hour, hand flying (no autopilot) and sat in a hold for 10 minutes before getting cleared to land. It's not an easy thing to do... Foggles are not really an analog for real IMC. When I broke out on that landing.... there was a huge mental load removed. My instructor said it gets easier.... and I'm sure having a good autopilot makes all the difference. Thanks for the vid.

An intrepid young pilot, and a great video of her first solo IFR flight. Well done! But I’m old-fashioned enough (and old enough in years) to wonder a little about over-use of an auto-pilot. My hope is that on other flights, and soon, she takes the opportunity to hand-fly the aircraft in actual conditions. It will always be an essential, possibly life-saving skill, even in an era of auto-piloted small aircraft. And it’s a skill easily degraded or even lost if not practiced regularly. Happy flying!

Well done; if you hadn’t said it, I wouldn’t have known this was your first solo IFR! I was a nervous wreck my first time! As a PPL with relatively low actual time, I recommend flying IFR as much as possible to get practice being “in the system”, so that when you do need to fly in actual IMC, it’s not really anything new.
