We took a repositioning cruise from Australia to Canada for 32 nights. But surely it was expensive and we would have been better to take a flight? Maybe... just maybe...

Hi Neil and Sarah. I think for people in your position, i.e. travellers with no fixed abode, the relocation cruise is a fantastic idea. You add to your world travels in an enjoyable and memorable way, whilst at the same time saving money and having an elevated experience - I'd go as far as to say that in your position it's a no brainer. For people short term travelling with already paid for accommodation at either (or both) ends, it's a very different story. Look forward to seeing more of your cruise (and the fjords). Stay safe, Peter

I liked ur comment regarding how much bags u can take on a cruise. It reminded me of a cruise i took from Lison to Rio De Janeiro where many paasengers were hauling washing machines, TVs Microwaves back to Brasil in fact one passanger has 23 cases and he go annoyed when they told him he had to keep the cases in his cabin

And there’s also the free entertainment you get on board a cruise too. Looking forward to the next video as it can be a bit overwhelming choosing a cruise when there are so many sites and cruises out there. Although long, a repositioning cruise is on my bucket list 😊

Great video. Could def. be an option in the future when we begin to slow travel. Not sure about a month at sea, but two weeks could be doable. I had always thought that repositioning cruises had limited stops and entertainment, but judging by your video last week, that is not the case. Thank you for taking the time to educate the masses. You guys are great!! 😊🤩

Great info Neil, thank you. We took our first cruise last Dec over the Christmas Holiday (21 days on Viking) through Bali and Australia. Had a great time but have decided it’s not for us at this point in our travel go-go years. We are going to try a river cruise in Europe next year with our friends so that’ll be a fun experience. We have several friends who have taken the transatlantic repositioning cruises and they love them, having now done about 4 or 5 of them to date. Thanks again, have a great day. Cheers!

For long haul (Eg AusUK) you cannot beat Emirates A380 Premium Economy. Totally worth the on-cost (about double the economy price) for a genuine luxury experience. Certainly not the cheapest way to travel, but really comfortable small cabin, great quality food and excellent service. No cramped overhead lockers, priority boarding and check in.

Really appreciated this video. I’ve seriously looked at transatlantic cruises (repositioning or in season) for one direction and fly the other direction. Most of those are anywhere from 7 to 14 days, which is definitely more doable than 32 days. My husband can handle up to 2 weeks but more than that and he’s saying no way. Those transatlantic cruises are often way cheaper than a flight (at premium economy or higher - I never fly less than premium economy for any flight over 4 hours, and have started flying business class for any overnight or long flights over 6 hours-my body just cannot handle economy on those longer flights). Cruise while it takes longer, if you have the time can be a very relaxing and enjoyable experience - especially if you do it on your way back to your home - it allows you time to unwind from a busy travel schedule.

Thanks for your honesty and I am glad you had the experience of a cruise. One thing I would say, if one were to stay for longer than a week or so somewhere I think one would spend money on groceries instead of eating out every meal....just my 2 cents....yes the food on your cruise would likely be better and TASTIER because you didn't have to prepare it...than food would be at an Airbnb from the grocery store....

I thought I replied to this earlier, but not seeing it, so I apologize if you see a double post. I'm moving to Thailand next summer. Originally, I was going to book a 24 hour 3 stop business flight to get me down there. Cost around 3K. Then I did the same thing the article is on and found my 31-day cruise on Royal Princess from LA to Sydney was $5K (going solo, so actually 10K). But I figured if I ever wanted to see Australia, or NZ, or any of the islands in the cruise after I move, I'm going to be out a fortune in tickets and hotel bills. So even with 10K, I totally agree with your video, it's cheaper to do the cruise then airline tickets all over south pacific spots.

Subscriber now for over two years. Love your content. My girlfriend and I learned of re-positioning cruises a few months back when we watched a video that said to think out of the box regarding travel between destinations. We plan at least 9 months in Europe beginning in Spring of 2025. Right now, a one way, Seattle to Rome, multiple stop and 3 plane change, 21+ hour day flight cost is $477 usd at the cheapest I could find just now. A 15 day re-positioning cruise aboard Norwegian with 2 stops in Portugal, 1 in Spain and 2 in Italy, in a Balcony Suite, not a cabin, is aprox $2600-2700 usd. We would have to fly to NYC to board, another $150-200 each added to the $2600-2700. So rounding them both up, $500 per person flying vs $3000 per person for a 15 day all inclusive cruise package in a balcony suite. Aprox $2500usd difference for what many would consider a 2 week vacation cruise in itself. My personal home budget for 2 weeks averages when I'm just working and living aprox $700. That excludes my home payment which will be made during our travel, so negates itself. Now we're down to $1800usd cost. Subtract fine dining vs my at home meals, and free entertainment aboard and it's an even closer value. We are convinced this is our route to Europe, even with some added cost to us. The experience and comfort with much less stress involved are well worth it. Thank you and lovely Sarah for your great content.

Update: She just called me. Norwegian now has dates out to 2025, and the price for a balcony room is $2000usd per person, not $2600. Significant difference and savings for us.

Having just gotten off a 12 day cruise and a 16 day cruise the month before, I can definitely agree that that is the sweet spot. A full month on a cruise ship would feel definitely too long. Great numbers though, we look at cruises in very similar terms, as doing everything individually would cost so much more. About to dive into the next video.

Yep ! I'm doing that this January. Got a DVT on a plane last year that nearly did me in. I live in the USA and want to go to the UK next year. I found a repositioning transatlantic cruise for around 330usd pp plus taxes from Miami to Southampton and a return to Miami from Southampton on the same ship in February for under 450usd pp plus taxes giving us around 3 weeks in the UK. Found a 14 night p&o roundtrip cruise to the Canary islands from Southampton for around 700 pounds pp making it cheaper than hotels and restaurants and car hire in the UK. I will be doing the in 2025 again as well. No more cramped seats TSA for me😁

Aussies get 4 weeks annual leave, in some industries it can be 5 weeks :) I'd like to do a transpacific cruise, but I'm not sure if I could handle that long on a cruise, I feel like 10 days is my limit, plus the flight back to Sydney...or over to the US, or Canada in your case. However, you are correct in that cruising is, overall, better value than flying, even with cruise fare price increases. Also, cruising is better for those with mobility issues, as most ships have accessible cabins, and are happy to accommodate those in wheel walkers, wheelchairs, even mobility scooters. Edit: I know you said you were being conservative in your pricing, but you didn't mention the cost of live shows, which are included on a cruise. How much would it cost to see a daily live show, a pub band, etc, on land vs included on the cruise? Makes the cruise an even better value proposition.

Definitely not spending 30 days on a cruise like that one. I like the one that goes from Europe to South America and is cheaper. As a point of comparison, I can fly from Vancouver to Sydney (2 people) and stay in Mebourne and other places in Airbnb, plus food, for around $7,000. So people just need to do their homework. Cruising isn’t necessarily cheaper. Good topic for discussion!

This video made me laugh several times. Loved the movie clips. I’m curious where you found your clips without copyright infringement and what’s your script writing process? Maybe that’s another video idea. Just a thought about the cruise sites. Each one has a different variety of cruise lines. The one you cover is missing a few key lines if you want to visit places like Antarctica. Just keep it in mind as depending on your focus, luxury vs scientific vs budget vs special locations or whatever each cruise line and each site will offer different options and perks. So it’s good to have more than one site for your research and of course there may be a final site or two used for actual booking.
