Suzanne Weaver Smith and Jamey Jacob, professors of mechanical engineering at the University of Kentucky, discuss BIG BLUE, a comprehensive aerospace project that experiments with an innovative aerospace technology based on inflatable wings. The technology tested in BIG BLUE is monumental in that it may one day help scientists explore Mars. Professors Smith and Jacob oversee the project as college students conduct much of the research.

Wow... This is really amazing... Airplanes flying over Mars... What an interesting program! Questions: 1) Where will the 'airstrip' be and what will they do to create a smooth surface for take-off's & landings? An inflatable D-10 dozer? 2) Will the plane be controlled with autonomous sensors? 3)Where will the sensors & xponders be located in relation to the runways? 4)What is the temperature/altitude-density there? 5)How long of a roll will the plane need to take-off & land? 6)What is the aspect ratio of the wing on this plane? 7)What is the surface area of the wing & empenage? 8)What type of lift augmentation devices will be used on the plane? 9)Are there winds on Mars? 10)What will be the direction of the prevailing winds in relation to the runway? 11)Where will the ILS station be? 12)What directions will the runways be? 13)What type of a prop will be used? 14)How much will the plane weigh? 15)How much will the ground based flight support equipment weigh? 16)How much $ will this cost? 17)Who will pay for this? 18)Has anybody considered to just be satisfied in changing the batteries on the electric ground based vehicles & equipment that are already there? 19)How much would that cost? 20)Who would pay for that? 21)Has anybody considered to just be satisfied in doing deeper studies of the existing information that we already have about Mars? 22) Who would pay for that? 23) Has anybody considered doing deeper studies of things we really need , here on Earth? 24) Who would pay for that? 25)How much $ that was generated here on Earth, has already been spent studying Mars? 26)Who has already paid for, and will probably continue to pay for that?

God has said in the Quran: { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 ) [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. ( 2:22 ) And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. ( 2:23 ) But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.( 2:24 ) And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally. ( 2:25 ) Quran

This should have been called "The people who work on inflatable wings". Not much science at all in this program.
