Join my friend Gabe (from Smokehouse Pilots Club) and me as we fly the famous Fisk Arrival to Oshkosh, WI for AirVenture 2021 in my Bonanza. For one week a year, Oshkosh becomes the busiest airport in the world, and it requires full attention as well as adherence to a special arrival procedure, described each year in the Oshkosh NOTAM. Approach controllers don't sit in front of a radar screen in the TRACON, but outside in the small town of Fisk, WI, and direct traffic from there to one of the arrival runways.

I just wanted to tell you one of my best Highlight of the show was when I had 20 Min to get back to our plane going back to 1C5. I thought I made the mistake by walking to the plane not knowing how far down the Taxiway it was. I thought to myself I didn’t get a chance to see Martin Pauly. I was the only one walking on the taxiway then I saw a man walking toward me and when he past I notice it was Martin Pauly LOL. He shook my hand and was very nice. Thank You for making my day.

It's one thing I love about AirVenture. Everyone is there, and usually you can talk to anyone you want - whether on the taxiway, at breakfast, or at the beer tent. It reminds of when Doug Rozendaal said, "aviation isn't about airplanes, it's about people". Nowhere else is this more true than in Oshkosh. - Martin

Can't ever imagine flying to an air show without ForeFlight. This is insanity, especially with all the aircraft coming in from all directions trying to get in line, LOL. Fantastic video though. It gives a great sense of what it's like and the awareness required to get there safely.

Glad you liked the video. It is very, very busy, but really well organized and structured - which is what makes is safe and predictable. ForeFlight helped, and so did having a second experienced pilot in the cockpit with me. - Martin

Flown into Oshkosk many times, but it's been many years.. It's always a little stressful.... Now we drive and tow a camper to Astico Park and drive up from there.

Video proof that NOTAM preparation and flying proficiency in the pursuit of perfection, results in excellence: one takeoff, one landing…safely and successfully. Well-done! Great to have experienced the ROP/LOP Saturday morning presentation in-person. Looking forward to seeing the balance of your AirVenture 2021 film. 🇺🇸✈️😎👍

@@martinpauly ; As the European travel writer Rick Steves says, “…(sometimes the magnitude of an event is not possibly covered by just one visit) assume you will return…” I’ve no doubt our paths in aviation circles will cross again. Your presentation held even the interest of my younger daughter who accompanied me to her first experience with AirVenture. “Gee, Dad, he sounds like you do when you talk about airplanes.” 😁✈️

Looks like you had a smooth arrival. It was my first time there this year, and I got a 10 degree diversion on base for 36L, then straight to the numbers, then 90 degrees right with a 360 turn at 300ft agl to let a fast King Air land right in front of me. It was a little intense, but the controllers are great and I just did what I was told and everything worked out!
@martinpauly
@martinpauly 3 жыл бұрын
You are right, Brian - our arrival was fairly straightforward. No holding, no surprises, just bad visibility. It can get much more "interesting", but that is one reason I like to get there on Friday - before most people go. - Martin

I love watching these arrivals. I am a licensed pilot but have not flown in 29 years. Please forgive me but watching these arrivals strikes me as an exercise in risk management. It just does not seem safe to me. I’m surprised the FAA allows it.

G,day Martin from Quarantine house lockdown Sydney Australia. Thankyou for explaining the NOTAM directive for air traffic to OSHKOSH airport. Nice flying: slight bump on landing. * The avidyne GPS is good revision of waypoints along the track, good stuff. * I wonder if upon landing they could use a quad bike as a push cart on the grass if it was wet? 🌏🇦🇺

Martin that was a great video. We were camped in Warbird camping not far from where y'all were. Did you stay n the tent Wednesday night during the storms or shelter in the museum? We grabbed a room in Green Bay because our rented travel trailer would not take the winds that were predicted for that night. After it was all over, we could have stayed there but the tornado and 80+ MPH winds just missed Oshkosh by 6 miles thank goodness.

Hi Jimmie, Fortunately Wednesday's storm wasn't as bad at the airport as the forecast suggested. We were lucky. I rode my bike up to the Hilton and waited it out at the hotel bar, along with 100 or so others. - Martin

Martin, the smoke you experienced came from fires in Canada just to the East of Lake Winnipeg. Smoke covered much of Minnesota and drifted into Wisconsin.
