An amazing flight with friends in the Los Angeles area while seeing all the iconic sights. But the airspace is busy and COMPLICATED! On this flight, we navigate the LA Class Bravo airspace on a sightseeing tour around Hollywood, Downtown L.A., Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Malibu.

The H-4 Spruce Goose wasn’t actually built in that dome. She was built in Hughes facilities in Culver City in 1942, just north of the LAX area. Her one and only ‘flight’ was nearby in the Long Beach Harbor in Nov of 1947. The dome wasn’t constructed until 1983 and the aircraft was displayed in the dome until she moved to the Evergreen Museum in 1992.

The Aero Club of Southern California took stewardship of the H-4 when the climate-controlled hangar lease it was stored in from 1947 to 1983 was up. The dome was built to house and display the goose. Then after Disney acquired the property they wanted to do something else with it and the H-4 was disassembled and barged up to Portland then move via train to McMinnville. It sat in parts in a plastic tent four years while they built the museum building to house it.

So quick backstory, I dreamt of being a captain of a 747 since I was about 8, I got into flight school literally months before 9/11 and pulled out due to the uncertainty of the airline industry at that time which financially was the right choice. I'm in my mid 40's and make enough to get back into training and subscribe to your channel because of your family/flight connection, its special and honestly I'm envious and hope to be able to do similar family trips down the road. My oldest is your daughters age and because I'm in law enforcement ive been able to do fun and silly things for her over the years to mess with her friends or drive like an F1 driver to get a yell or laugh within reasonable safety because of my training and ability as a driver. I have to admit I had a HUGE smile when you were showing her friend from UND, same college I was in actually, about the complex radio traffic and demand of flying in that insane airspace and the low gravity maneuvers... seeing the smiles on their faces and your calm and cool proud papa face was really enjoyable and genuine and know that your daughter will forever remember that and you were the "COOL" dad in that moment and she ate that up. Well done sir!

Nice video, and I've done similar flights in my RV, usually with visitors. So, how come the instrument-rated right seater thought that zero G was such a strange thing? Do CFI's not teach or at least demonstrate that anymore? Waypoint at CMA has excellent tri-tip sandwiches, but unfortunately only on Wed and Sat-Sun. Finally, it's Palos Verdes with an 'S' on the end, but that's quite the minor nitpick. 🙂

Eric, BUR radar ends right before Dodger Stadium. Your best traffic advisory would be SMO, and not SoCal approach. Their radar service is excellent and they will always accommodate the request. I always talk to to them for traffic advisory right after I departed VNY for sightseeing the area especially over Down Town LA. They usually hand me off to BUR for transition to Holyrood Sign or over Universal Studio. All D & C airspace can offer traffic advisory within their vicinity if you can not get a hold of ATC.

Last year (2022) Oshkosh by their own account had 18,684 operations over 11 days... SCT is a much bigger area though so I guess it depends on how you are measuring "busiest".. :)
