Raphaël Domjan is an eco explorer and for his latest project, SolarStratos, he has built an electric plane powered by solar panels. The hope is to reach an altitude of 80,000 feet, setting a record for being the first manned solar plane to reach the stratosphere.
The aim of SolarStratos is to show what can be achieved through solar energy with the hope that the aviation industry takes notice and steers away from fossil fuel to more sustainable sources of power. They also plan to use the plane for scientific purposes - with zero-emissions, the plane can take sensitive atmospheric measurements without contaminating the samples with its own exhaust.

I think a ducted prop (rather then ducted fan) is more efficient than just a prop due to the differences in tip vortex shaping. Ducted propellers work on a much larger volume of air at a lower speed than ducted fans which is how they beat them on efficiency at low speeds. They beat normal props by nearly eliminating the tip vortex issue.

That is amazing ,I've dreamed of just such a flying capability,and to be in those flite levels in a solar powered glider type craft ,an everydays man, powered u-2 , adventure flying, and now ,here you go,,on just such a craft as I had dreamed and now the," spontaneous, same idea," has triggered here and there around the globe,as is seen from time to time ,in other kinds of fields and persuites,(sp), the adventurous minds of dreamers ,applied! umm i dont think you can reach higher than 18000ft becoz : -first the higher altitude have the thiner air density, the propeller will have a huge drop on efficiency unstill stalling. -second the heat will very hard to get rip from your plane in stratosphere and you have a keep running propeller and the solar panels is also receiving the heat. Anyway I hope you can find the solutions the solve those problem.

Heat is fixed by the drop in temperature at altitude. -60 degrees C at 40,000 feet is common. I know that there is an inversion of sorts at highter altitudes (or at least a drop in the rate of the temp going down) but heat will not be an issue.

Perlan Project Inc. is a not-for-profit aeronautical exploration and atmospheric science research organization that utilizes sailplanes (gliders) designed to fly at extremely high altitudes . The 2018 season was again based at El Calafate. The project acquired a Grob G 520 Egrett turboprop aircraft for use as a tow plane. This enabled Perlan II to be towed to 44,000 ft (13,411 m) This seems to be the highest glider tow, as records are not registered. On 26 August 2018 Jim Payne and Morgan Sandercock reached an altitude of 18,492 m (60,669 ft). This was followed by 19,439 m (63,776 ft) with Jim Payne and Miguel Iturmendi on 28 August 2018. On 2 September 2018, Jim Payne and Tim Gardner reached an altitude of 22,646 m (74,298 ft), surpassing the 73,737 ft (22,475 m) attained by Jerry Hoyt on 17 April 1989 in a Lockheed U-2: the highest manned heavier than air subsonic flight. The Perlan 2 could fly to 90,000 ft (27,000 m) if conditions allow, higher than the manned level flight altitude record of the SR-71 Blackbird at 85,069 ft (25,929 m).Previous records were measured with pressure altitude; high altitude soaring records now require GPS data. Interesting, earth albedo is 30% in intensity of direct sunlight and has almost the same spectrum as direct sunlight, a little less in the UV, but that is usually not a very large portion of what a solar cell uses, so the contribution from the underside would be significant.

The Earth’s core is 6,700 km deep. The deepest humans have drilled is 12 km. The temperature of the inner core is "estimated" (we don't know) to be between 3,000 and 5,000 Kelvin (4,940 to 8,540 degrees Fahrenheit). The high temperature comes from three main sources. There is residual heat left from the Earth's formation, and heat is generated by gravitational and magnetic forces from the sun and moon as they tug and pull on the inner core. (The Sun heats the Earth's CORE. Sunlight is a small part of the Sun's energy) finally, the radioactive decay of elements deep within the Earth also produces heat. The Sun's total energy is NOT constant. Humans have only begun to study our star with radio, computers and satellites. Solar winds from coronal mass ejections can even change Earth's orbit. Open your mind and think. CO2 is an insignificant factor an infinite number of variables. Why don't scientists actually know the Earth's core / mantle temperature and how much it fluctuates? It's only because of deep drilling corporations that scientists have accurate measurements of crust temperature. The mantle and core temps are pure speculation. Just like climate forecasts.
@randomguyinanglider
@randomguyinanglider 22 күн бұрын
When Co2 is insignificant explain how venus should be pretty much like earth relying on the mass and distance from the sun, only that venus releases all the co2 from the core which is abaut as much co2 as the earth has stored in fossil fuels and bio mass. Jes shure we cant be 100% certain how the suns power output will be in 50 jears but by basic logic and the fact that the sun is billions of jears old we can assume it will be the same, while we would fight wars over the last bit of oil we have lying around .
@davidunderdown8100
@davidunderdown8100 Ай бұрын
It is impossible to accurately predict the future using data from the past because nothing stays the same, but if you’re trying to predict the future climate of the entire Earth 100 years from now it sure would be nice to have data showing temperature, speed, barometric pressure, and direction of the jet streams for the last 100,000 years or so. Unfortunately, humans only discovered the jet streams back in 1883 and accurate measurements of the jet streams only go back to the 1950’s using primitive weather balloons. Jet stream data prior to 1883 is lost in the winds of time forever. We now have maybe 50 years of quality satellite data of the jet streams. It is impossible to accurately model the climate with so little data. However, climate scientists could build a time machine to go back and accurately measure the jet streams for the last million years, but until that happens the climate models will always suck.
