Son, I have to tell you something. I was 17 years old and we had a Piper Cherokee 140. Daddy felt confident enough that he could put me with an instructor to check me out and then get solo'ed in our plane. Un be knowing to my mom, she did not know what we were going to do when we left for the airport. As far as she knew, we were just going to go flying. We got to the airport, talk to Carl (the instructor). The instructor said " Let's go ". I went out to the plane with him following and I went through all the pre-flight procedures and passed that. Then we went up. We weren't up very long when he had me to do some different maneuvers and then we went back to the airport and made two landings and take off's. The grass strip was not long enough to do touch and go's. When we got up the last time, my instructor Carl said to me " I'm getting ready to do something for the first time in my history" . And I ask him what was that. He said " Turning a student loose after being with him for less than 30 minutes, land and take me to the office, your going up". As soon as I left the ground on the first take off, daddy was on the phone with mom. She said " where is Keith right now?". Daddy said, He is up there right now flying around the airport. It surprised her so much and she said " You get him down on the ground right now". LOL. LOL. She laughed about it later, but then she didn't. And did we get it when we got home. lol. lol. Son, I don't know what you went to College for, but I pray blessings in your studies. And that you reach every goal you set out to reach. But at the same time, I do encourage you to pursue a career in aviation. I'm 59 and my goal still is with Gods' help I will get my licenses. Blessings my friend Bishop Kirby

Great great Utah video bro, when I was in the military I've got my private pilot license and it was such a joy to take my mom and dad up the only problem is I went through a thick patch of clouds and I had to work on instruments quickly so happy trails

Got my ticket back in August of 2017. My first passenger was my grandmother, who surprisingly loves flying. Back in December I finally convinced my dad to go up with me and it really was a special moment since he introduced me to aviation and ignited this passion of mine (he travels for work weekly and would bring home model planes for me), took him to a cool airport with some great food nearby. Watching and listening to your mom's reaction to steep turns made me laugh because when I took my dad up I put the plane in a slip over midfield to make it down to pattern altitude and my dad who is so used to being in charge goes "Ok buddy no aerobatic maneuvers, alright?". Had to explain to him that I slip the aircraft to get down quicker, kind of funny to step back and see how normal these maneuvers we do in training seem but how wild they may seem to others.

This is one of the things I’m most excited about if I manage to become a pilot. The first time I ever told my parents I wanted to be a pilot, I was 16 and had already pretty much decided that I would study to be a vet, so they(especially my dad) were pretty unsupportive because of financial issues as well as personal. But I understand why. I haven’t yet started studying aviation at all but I really hope that one day I make it so that I can make my parents proud
@Jack2511905 жыл бұрын
Your parents decided you are going to be a vet? Wow..ok well i'm glad you are now making your own decisions, i'm sure when you get your license they will see sense and will be proud.
@kywha1e_5 жыл бұрын
Jack251190 well, they didn’t decide that I would be a vet. I decided myself a little while ago but I started to have second thoughts. But they weren’t supportive of the pilot thing because I had been saying I want to be a vet for a while and it’s very difficult to become a pilot, especially here in Japan because flight training costs a FORTUNE and we don’t have that much financial room. You probably don’t care but I ended up just going with the vet thing because it would be almost impossible for me to become a pilot in my situation and I don’t want to cause my parents any financial problems. I’m still in high school, but for now, I’m just going to stick with vet and maybe, hopefully, someday in the future once I’m financially stable on my own, I’ll be able to afford my own flight training and see where that takes me.
@Jack2511905 жыл бұрын
Ah fair enough, well atleast you will have a decent career out of being a vet. I know how expensive training is, i live in the UK and have recently started training for my PPL. Its about £8500 where im training, then i have to pay out for ground school and flight school which is gonna cost me about £60,000 total with it all added up. Im fortunate enough to be living at home ( i was going to save up and move out but it wasnt financially possible to do and learn to fly). So iv saved for the past year and half and purchased my course for the PPL and iv estimated that i have about 4 or so more years of saving. The overtime im doing is a lot, extra 40 hours a month plus my usual 37.5 hours a week. But it is doable, so hopefully you can figure out a plan to get you there.

Great video....I know that this was shot a while ago, and I'm sure you've learned so much since filming this....but I must add that one of the most important lessons I have learned when taking people up (whether it's their first time or not) is to not show them anything except a fantastic time...This means no stalls, no steep turns, no practice maneuvers......The goal is for them to enjoy their time with you in the air...that usually means "straight and level flight". Anything else tends to put the fear of God in them and will keep them from coming back again. One last thing I have learned from "trial and error" is to always announce a bank to your passengers prior to banking....Trust me, I've learned these things the hard way. Just my 2 cents....awesome video...great flying!!
@AlexChristian6 жыл бұрын
They specifically asked to see what I had learned, and my mom wasn't aware she wasn't going to enjoy it. That's why it was primarily a sightseeing flight over the lake.

A military take off?.....what kind of plane you take your Mom up in?...........An F-15?....I took my Dad up, he did the same thing as your Mom, cause the Cessna 152, doesn't climb like an airliner, or serve cocktails....like you, I took him right back for immediate landing.

Hey great video I’m going for my first flight in a small GA plane any advice a little scared I enjoy flying on chemical planes besides turbulence lol
@AlexChristian4 жыл бұрын
Well let me put you at ease a bit. Flying is a lot like boating. Air is a fluid, just like water, and turbulence is just like waves, the only downside being that you can't see them. If you have the option, ask to sit up front; take a water bottle (it's easy to get dehydrated at altitude); and enjoy the ride!

Why would you show ANYONE who is afraid of flying what a stall (they may think the engine will fail or they will feel the dropping feeling and really be scared) or even a steep turn (it will be like tipping a car over from their standpoint) when you are hoping that they will enjoy the moment and - as a parent - be proud of your accomplishment. I suspect that your parents paid for your flying lessons so be mindful of exposing new folks - and your parents - to flying in a small airplane. And also be mindful if you even take up a female that you are trying to impress. Let them get used to it before you start exposing them to some of your thrills! Or they will never want to ride with you again. Maybe some of your macho buds will want to go for a wild ride - but are you really competent as an aerobatic pilot?
@AlexChristian5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan! If you read any of the previous comments, you'll see that my mom specifically asked to see what I had been learning, even though she wasn't sure if she'd enjoy it. Thanks for your two cents, albeit less than helpful.
