This song hits differently in March 2020

Okay guys there's some bizarre interpretations here of this video. First of all, the entire album is about death, and accepting loss is a theme throughout Fly Lo's music. Fly Lo has said in interviews he considers himself an authority on death as he has lost so many people throughout his life, so he releases this album. Yes, the son has no arm, and I don't think WHY he has no arm is actually relevant at all. Missing limbs is a thing in other videos as well. The missing arm is called upon later in the video, which I'll get to later. So this man is dying, and he looks at his son who is obviously not ready to let him go. The entire family is seeing him off, washing him, preparing him for death, and the son is staring. He is not ready. As his father is dying, his spirit or his consciousness or whatever you want to consider it is running away from death. Death is represented largely by those mysterious men, covered in white powder, which by the way is an amazing visual as usually in white media death is depicted as black, men dressed in black, a black spirit, etc. So this takes the white interpretation of death and tosses it on its ass, making the white color the symbol of death and dying. He runs and gets on a bus, sees a form of his son, that isn't quite his son. He's darker, expressionless and empty. His son is still alive, but they are together battling accepting death. They leave together, neither willing to accept what has to come. Eventually, his son is forced to accept what's coming, and shoots his father. The shooting is representative of him letting go, of the acceptance of death, and the father gets on his knees to accept the inevitable and accept the shot. Birds fly into the sky, his spirit/consciousness floats off into oblivion or wherever the hell we go when we die. Now, the missing arm that exists robotically in limbo. As I mentioned, missing limbs has been used throughout Fly Lo's music videos as representative of loss and longing. Here in limbo, while they battle the inevitable, the arm is there. It is that very arm that pulls the trigger that is the acceptance of his father's death. It's intended to add a metaphorical layer to the story. The arm missing arm, representative of loss and longing, regenerates mechanically and performs the act that is representative of acceptance. There is no loss of the arm because of his father as is said in another comment, none of that is implied in the video, nor is it relevant. The arm itself, there and not there, exists and doesn't exist simply to lend a hand to the metaphor of loss and acceptance.

As a man of 44 years, this songs makes me cry buried emotions. Just like the rain cleanses the earth, crying cleanses the soul.

This album was released the day after my grandfather's funeral. Also, the day this album was released was the day of my move across the country. This album was the soundtrack to that move. I played it nonstop for four straight days. It has a very special meaning for me. And you know what? It still has yet to get old.

The corona virus got my Mama last month. I just rediscovered this song yesterday and man, i was tearing up listening to this. I am about to cry again listening to it right now. The instrumental, the lyrics, the vocals and the title especially get me emotional. R.I.P. Mama

I feel like the father is dying of a hard disease but seeing that his son has lost an arm, he is thinking that if I die, the son will have to look after the family. So that's why he is struggling with death. But the whole journey he is running from death, his son takes him to a place where he can leave and be at peace. The act of shooting him and petals flowing says that the son is telling his dad to trust him and be at peace, 'I give you the freedom to go to the after-life, you just have to trust me'. The bionic arm signifies that the son although missing one arm, is as strong as with two arms so his father just has to trust him. Really deep thing here. Peace

This dying man is obviously with his family in the final minutes of his life. The ghouls covered in white dust must be his interpretation of his fear of death & letting go of the material world. He keeps running but cannot escape his impending death. He ends up following his son that leads him through a tunnel that leads him to the other side. He is looking at the rising sun giving him warmth & the courage & peace to leave this world. Most likely the sun is his representation of his own son because thats the last person he looks at before letting go. Very very spiritual video, whoever worked out the images in this video really knew what they were doing

Flying lotus is a musical genius. This music is on a new level, I don't know what to say, it's the best music I've ever heard. It never gets old, I've been listening to this album off and on since its release and I just can't get sick of it.

I knew I'd love Flying Lotus the first time I watched/heard "Never Catch me". it took me 4 years to finally make proper time to sit with his music and man what a journey it's been, he's honestly such an incredible artist and an inspiration. Where to even start to describe his greatness? I've seen him perform twice now, and it truly is an out of body experience.

Notice how the kid doesn't have a right arm at the beginning of the video, but towards the end as he's about to shoot who I presume is his father, you see a sort of robotic arm in place of his previously missing limb (kinda like the terminator, hence the name of the video). Which leads me to believe there's a higher meaning to this. The ending is meant to represent how the kid unintentionally killed his father by entering a dangerous situation (that wasn't shown in this video), causing the father to risk his life to save his son. The son lost his arm, while the father lost his life. The people covered in white are meant to represent the evils (from the "dangerous situation" I mentioned above) that led to the son killing his father. But that's just how I see it, of course. The video is pretty open to everyone's own interpretation.

That transition from 3:48 to 3:49. So smooth and so effective! A seconds difference.

Although this song was made before COVID, I found it during 2020 when it grew more popular due to the name. It resonates deeply with how I felt during that time, and I still return to it constantly when I find myself still unable to let go. In a single year, I lost so many friends and relatives either to the virus or suicide during quarantine. Most of them died alone and afraid. Three years later and I still can't bring myself to move on.

we are taught that only the white man's experience is universal, but this is one of those stories that feels like it's drawing from deep, true, and ancient wells. This is a piece of beauty. This is art. This is life.

I'm a senior now and in a life spent taking pride in the extreme range of past and present world music I love, this is probably the most beautiful sound I've ever heard.

i like to think that the son's missing arm is an emotional wound. He seems to be the youngest, and his "incompleteness" feels like unfinished business. He's dying before he's gotten a chance to do... something. But what? Well, we see him distanced from the rest of the mourners, watching numbly from afar. He never had the chance to teach his son how to say goodbye. How to be strong and keep living through one of the most painful things a person can experience-- the tragic, early death of a parent to illness. So in his dying dream, he's trying to escape from death and follow his son and live just a little longer... But in the end, that wound has already been patched together. He'll never be the the same as he once was, but he is strong enough to let go and say goodbye. He didn't fail his son after all.

I like my grind and twerk videos as much as the next guy -- but these are the videos that black music should REALLY be known for. SUBSTANCE haunting ---like that time your old uncle grab you and tell you some stuff about your family that shifts everything you thought about your peeps and answers so many questions.

Obviously an incredible song & video, but I just wanna say that some of the most insightful, creative and open minded comments I've ever seen on a youtube video were ALL on FlyLo videos. Props for that you guys & girls. Gives me actual hope for humanity at large haha.

This song has been popping into my head since I first heard it 10 years ago. Haunting apocalyptic track and visuals that has stayed with me a decade

Y'all did something genius here. This chopped-up, slowed-down version of the song lends so much more to its power with the slow build-up, dramatic pauses, airy interludes. Blows the album version out of the water, which is no small feat.

The video is about how the kid got into an accident but the dad saved his son from being killed. The son lost an arm still and his dad us paralyzed (or on verge of death) and the son feels like it's all his fault like he pulled a gun on his dad shot him. He feels he killed(paralyzed) his father.

This song is so good, and yet, it depresses the hell out of me. I had to call my pops and have a long conversation with him after watching this, just so he knows that I appreciate him being in my life.

Five minutes to completely communicate a man's journey into that unknown country. Masterfully done.

This song and video is so beautifully done that when I’ve come to a conclusion on it, it gives me chills down my spine. How do we really see death? Is it going to be beautiful and we go out on our own terms? Or will you succumb to its soul numbing grip? Fly Lo claims himself as a front running advocate on death. And looking into his background and some comments on here.... hmmm I’ll give him that for now I guess. But the way he personified death in this video/song is genius. When the man began his journey at the top of the stairs, to me it seemed as if he noticed that the window was open, which might not should’ve been. Then I noticed the gentlemen coated in powder in the living room. Maybe this could be a relation to the powder being like dust blowing in the window that’s mysteriously open? Maybe I’m reaching. So he proceeds downstairs to see the three men in the living room expecting him, but he’s not expecting them. He takes off immediately in a panic looking for...”comfort”. He finds it in the form of his son, who is a few shades darker and is draped in a dark blue tattered shirt. In Asian and middle eastern cultures, blue represents death and mourning. His son leaves in which he proceeds to follow. I want to stop right here and go straight into the lyrics. If you don’t know them then pleas look them up and listen. “Baby don’t come back, cause I might just save you”. The sons presence was grimacing....as if he didn’t want to be there. What if death is or could be a being that’s projected and personified and has feelings and emotions. Kind of like how Hades despises the gods of the heavens because they get the glory while all he knows is the suffering and pain of those who have fallen. In a way his “son” did save him. From him being lost and afraid to okay I don’t know what this is but YOU definitely seem familiar to me. Part 2 of his journey begins and I say that because he felt the presence of death creep in and didn’t know how to respond but with panic. Usually when one gets sick or is nearing the end of their life, some have time to come to grips with it and some don’t. Even the people around them don’t. But this wasn’t for anyone else this was for him. He had to muster the courage to follow his son down a dark path in which the son looks back the same time Fly Lo says “come with me, if you want to live.” That part resonated in me so deeply from the first time I saw this. Then again they see the three men in white but this time at a distance, yet close. Almost as if they were shepherding him to his destination. Like “we was gone be here regardless fool! Made us waste all this gas money to come get yo ass! Only lord knows how many miles you dun ran In this heat. Just sweatin fuh nuthin! Ya ass could’ve been in the ac cooler than a polar bears toenails, but ya got scared!” Like why run away from something that’s going to be inevitable, which is like running backwards to go forwards because while you’re trying to keep yourself from it, the moment you turn around is when you realize how much energy was wasted trying to avoid the inevitable. ”There’s no where left to go so I might just save you.” Yeah most of us would react the same way let’s be honest lol. Back to the shepherds, who were trying to get him to his destination, in white, resembling sheep’s wool? But also death and mourning in African culture as well. Beautiful representation. Through the darkness you find light. Not in. And when he came out to the sunrise he dropped to his knees. Surrendering, not giving up but letting go. “They all want to be saved” is like how we want death to be comfortable and understanding to our fear. Is it how? Or is it when? These questions drive me crazy in thinking of my own. Did he become in control of his death? Or did he become comfortable with it? He did in the end look toward his son, the bringer of his own death in which he found comfort, He gave him the green light. “My hands been bloody since the day I came, it’s such a shame you’ve seen my violent side. Baby don’t come back cause I might just kill you.” That was it the lyrics combined with the gunshot to the back of the head to the beautiful sunrise as he falls. To him realizing that his biggest peace was in nothing. I wonder when Fly Lo says “Don’t come back” if he’s talking about reincarnation. Like he’s telling him to fulfill your purpose in this life so that you won’t have to live another trying to figure the same thing out....purpose. Because next time in that next life, I may not be so nice. But that’s just my take on a piece of this song 😂 so much thought put into everything. I love this shit yo! Just... WOW! I was like mesmerized watching this video. Congratulations!

Seems to me like the man was dying and during all the prayers and consolation, he dies and ends up in limbo. As he walks around he sees three white ghostly figures which to me seem like they were guiding him toward passing on or staying with them which of course the first thing he does is run his ass off. As he is riding on the bus, Death manifests as his son and the father seeing a familiar face follows his son. The lost souls, already at his destination follow the father as he looks around with no choice but to follow what he percieves as his son. As he passes through a veil he realizes he never was outrunning Death. As he views his last sights, Death in the form of his son with a mechanized right arm, prepares to send the father to where he is intended to be.
