i have been flying helis for 35 years. You never stop learning but it's worth the time and effort. Most people try and give up. It just takes time and dedication. I learned on a 40 sized nitro fixed pitch heli. it was so much harder than whats offered today. We had no flight controllers and tail gyros were not very good. Thanks Brian and camera crew for the great video content.

Thank you Brian, and yeah, back in the day I had a CP1 (or one? cant' remember exactly, but I THINK it was a Blade ~ 17-18 years ago) but it was SOOOOOOOOOOO hard! Yours would have been a ton harder to learn on.

My personal opinion on any GPS helicopter. If you are a plane guy that just wants to mess around with a helicopter, it’s great. But! If you truly want to be a helicopter pilot, I highly recommend staying away from them. They can teach a lot of bad habits, and especially if you want to learn 3-D, you start getting used to the auto 3-D with the sticks being the right direction as regular flying, and you advance to a bigger helicopter later you will have to retrain yourself all over again and you at that point are not truly learning. I’ve seen it quite a bit, guys buy and fly the FW stuff then go buy a Align,XL, SAB and so on spend thousands of dollars and destroy it in 30 seconds because they have no idea what they’re doing as they learned with the auto 3-D.

I have mixed emotions on the subject. One thing I learned is that you can't stop technology. The first thing I did was get an RF simulator around 2003-2004. I did that for one year before I even considered buying a machine. My first machine I built myself, and then it was checked over by an experienced heli guy. I also took paid lessons from him on a buddy box for a summer. He was like, "Are you sure you've never done this before?" At that time I was flying Thunder Tiger, and I had a Raptor 90SE with 9CHP, a YS.91, and a Hatori pipe. I then got an Align 450LP after a long break. Then I got back in with an M2 EVO, and then I just picked up this machine last week. It is odd going from a GY601 to an Align MiniGRS, to OMP's self-stabilization, and now to FW's GPS. The good news is that you can take this off of GPS, and it is quite the machine in 3D mode. I would love to see what this could do in the right hands. For some reason, people have amnesia when it comes to the fact that GPS can be turned off with a switch.

I'm definitely "a plane guy who plays occasionally with Heli's", and I do feel MORE in control on the Spektrum heli's, like the 330S and 230S, but this heli is FUNNNN still... I wonder if the bad habits would be worse for someone with a little less experience???

WestHobbiesRC I can agree with the bad habbits, now with that said you can change the flight controller in the software to work just like a Ikon would, being that when inverted such as down is up and up is down. Factory settings are not that way. So if you want to learn the normal way you can. Now with that said I have major hand injuries a long time ago that made me give up my love of this hobby and now I have bad nerve issues in the other hand but with this hardware this allows me to fly again. I'm not a stick banger I just fly casual flying and enjoy it. All my helicopters have the H1 unit in it, my SAB 570,500,280 Trex 550, 450, Roban 600 Blackhawk, Roban 700 Apache, 600 Funkey Airwolf, 450 size MD500 with a scale 5 blade head, Roban 600 MD500, ETC I only have 14 helicopters in my fleet for now but they will have this unit in it. On a side note I do love your videos on your builds and they taught me some short cut or ideas on my builds.

As a heli pilot that flys planes from time to time, I think this can be a good steeping stone/tool to get someone introduced into the world of helis. They never had this stuff when I learning. The only concern I would have is when it comes to that invert button. When your in full control of a heli without that, the controls are different and I can see someone picking up a bad habbit that would cause a silly crash. But come on guys, this is super cool and I bet it could still lay the smackdown in the right hands! Keep up the cool videos Brian🚁💨💯

Brian; A year or so ago I wrote to you all excited about this GPS heli to share it with you, and you responded that you weren't at all interested in a GPS heli that is so easy to fly, that it can pretty much fly itself with GPS, and that you like flying things that you control, and would find a GPS heli boring. (I don't remember your exact words, but I think I came close) And here you are later, all excited about, and flying the exact same GPS heli that I told you about! But it's OK, I love all of your flying video's, and is a great joy to see you excited & flying this GPS heli. What made you change your mind about this same GPS heli I told you about a year or so ago that you weren't interested in at that time? You sure are having fun with it now, awesome to see. Recently the V3 came back in stock at Motion RC, and here on July 8th. 2023 I just ordered the white one. I plan to use a Li-Po with more capacity, I love Thunder Power "Pro Lite X Series' 25c because they are a top quality Li-Po's and they weight quite a bit less than other Li-Po's. For example, their 2800 weighs the same as, or a bit less than all other 2200 Li-Po's. For 4S, they offer a 2700, a 3300, a 3850, a 4400, and a 5000 But I don't know how much extra room is in the battery compartment? You say you are using a 4S 5000 what brand? My plan is to get my new Fly Wing 450, then see & measure the battery compartment, so I can order a higher capacity Li-Po from Thunder Power RC. Motion recommends 35C but I've found the Thunder Power 'Pro Lite Series' with 25C is plenty, I talked to the owner of Thunder Power, and he said some Li-Po mfg's overstate their actual C ratings, and that their 25C rating is a least that and usually a bit more, and are honest C ratings. And their 25C is the 'continuous discharge rate' and has 'Max Burst Discharge: 50C' Since I won't be doing any high discharge rate flying, I think 25C would be fine. Their next higher ones are 55C. Glad you are having fun, and thanks for another great video, am very excited to get mine in a few days... : )

yes, I don't care for the GPS flying mods, IF they don't work, as we've seen back a year or two ago. I DO however think they've moved the technology forward so much that it's actually working well now, BUUUUUT, it's still not like flying a Heli. I admittedly use SAFE when flying heli's and probably will for some time, as I get my legs under me, but for the moment, if they keep improving the technology, and implementation, I'll be the first to support it ;) One issue I've found, and personally experienced, is when things go sideways (literally, and figuratively) the cause of the problem can be VERY hard to find. I think the answer to this is redundancy, and more redundancy. When this is all worked out, there's no doubt, in 10 years we'll be flying around on "drones" and all that Jetson's type science REALITY we're looking forward too!

Also the correct order to start the heli is put it in GPS mode first then hold both stick down and out for 3 to 5 seconds then let the sticks go and the flip the switch for motors to run. Also with the 5000mah battery you should get a 20 min flight.

A lot of these comments are drone, drone, drone, horrible learning tool, etc. Phillips, you're only highlighting one component of this machine (an important one, but one nonetheless). The FW software provides a lot of parameters in sport mode (head speed, swash gain, swash expo, roll rate, agility, etc.), and there is a switch to put this into 3D mode. I have one, and I can assure you that with a 6S battery and all parameters fine-tuned and maxed out, this thing could hang with the best of them. The minimalist design may lack the sophistication and sexiness of an OMP M4 or Goosky RS4, but only an extremely small percentage of pilots would be able to tell the difference.

@@BrianPhillipsRC correct the v3 can take a 6s pack. Keep in mind the Huey and 206 are working backwards. Those are V2.5. They don’t have the GPS which connects to the CCPs BeiDou system. I would highly suggest doing the calibration dance before flying both v2.5 otherwise your going to give your audience quite the video 🤣🤣🤣. The v3 adds this along with a lot of other differences that for some reason FW doesn’t promote.

Hi Brian,as someone who is returning to R/C flying after a long lay-off,i have many questions and mostly concerning LiPo batterie's--they're really complicated to someone who has always worked with nitro and diesel engines--what's the difference between a LiPo for your transmitter or a LiPo for your planes,do you follow the same charge/storage procedures i.o.w.--do you also storage charge your transmitter LiPo and how....if you take out the battery from your transmitter, doesn't that alter the settings ?What's the C-rating on a LiPo--what does that mean/do ?...i mean...i have a bucket-full of such questions, too long to post inhere, but wouldn't it be possible to do a tutorial on LiPo's...specially for newbie's like me to learn how to handle and work with LiPo's in a safe way and how to chose them for a given application ?Maybe an idea for a future "LiPo how-to" ? Are you running the batteries from not fully charged? Is your charger broken, battery(ies) bad? If the flight controller is not set right, there might be a way to change the LVC (Low Voltage Cuttoff) in the PC menu...you gotta hook it up to the PC and use their app. I don't generally do it with FlyWing heli's, but thought there was a usb connection on the Flight Controller / ESC combo... Check on that, and change LVC lower ONLY AFTER you've confirmed fully charged battery and/or charger working right.

100% It works really good, but it's not going to "teach" you how to fly, rather build your confidence on the controls, and then when you're ready to go FULL TILT 3D, you can, but it's such a huge leap for the average Joe (which I am)

Jay, it's like that all over the place. Helis, planes, cars, trucks, crawlers, etc. genius marketing on the part of the Chinese. They peruse these KZfaqrs, find out who has the most subscribers and solid communication skills, and then send the product to them with some cash, and this is what we have. The amount saved in advertisement costs is immense.

While I definitely support getting some help, especially if you are new to that type of aircraft or if you’re just getting started in model aviation. I would advise a person to get help from an experienced person that has experience in that type of aircraft. For example don’t ask for help on your helicopter 🚁 from an RC airplane pilot that has absolutely no successful experience with RC model helicopters 🚁 Because some in our hobby will let their ego get in the way and you are the one that will end up paying for it when they do the wrong thing and crash 💥 your aircraft.

Brian, You need to STOP there, because you don’t even know you’re doing! I strongly suggest you SHOULD STOP BUYING GPS or easy mode for you to fly. You’re never will learn how to fly non-gps helicopters and learn how to fly helicopter as beginner helicopter. NON GPS HELICOPTER, I am dead serious about this, because you made a fool of yourself! The M4 with Spektrum receiver for this is great way to learn!!! Building kits are hard and bitching. GOOD!!!! Once you learn your flying skills improves, I don’t care if you crash it. Keep your patience to rebuild it and that’s make you a better pilot. Simulator will help your nerves. Keep practicing on the sims and you will be surprised if you didn’t suck. Then keep practicing upside down hovering until your muscle memory works out your kinks. Once you get it then you won’t be a fool in front all of the hobbyists on your KZfaq. If you don’t then STAY AWAY FROM ALL OF HELICOPTERS! STICK WITH YOUR AIRPLANES OR SAILPLANES!! That’s all I have to say!!!
@BrianPhillipsRC

I think I basically said the same or very similar here in our video. You have to remember not everyone is born knowing how to fly Heli's, and most won't really ever get into flying Heli's 3D...not that they shouldn't, or couldn't, but we believe it's not a skill that most hobbyist's are going to pursue for one reason or another. Same is true for airplanes...most guys are not "hardcore 3D" pilots, even though most could hold a simple prop hang and do some basic aerobatics, with the right plane. It's just about people's desire...and we don't think most people are going to want to go through the time, effort, expense of getting as good as the best 3D Heli pilots. This is not what I want for them, but I DO believe it to be true. This is why we love seeing heli's that are easy to fly. Yeah, you still have to pilot the thing, kinda, but GPS controls DO retard the learning process, and this is a problem for those who WANT to learn to fly RC helis. The moral of the story - I will NOT stop flying heli's because I'm not the best in the world at doing it, as will I NOT stop making videos about my pursuit of personal excellence in a lot of different skills and interests. Our whole channel has been about me learning to fly, while helping others along the way. I basely knew how to fly RC planes when we started this channel...not sure if you knew that, but I was JUST getting started, and now I can fly most planes you put in front of me, and a LOT of helicopters, as well as all kinds of other strange RC skills. I'm still learning, and slowly improving my heli skills, sure, and I'm NOT the best at anything we do on KZfaq. And, I'm not in a huge rush to "get there" with heli's, and don't mean to be a jerk here, but not going to apologize to you or anyone else who would have me do it differently. The PURSUIT of this skill is a lot of the fun. It's not about "getting there" with this hobby...it's about enjoying the process. It's about learning, and improvement. Maybe for YOU, it's about "getting there" - and that's 100% fine, but don't want you to think I will be stopping this, or that, on account of your comment. I love this stuff too much to quit just because there's someone else better at it than me, and P.S. If I were worried about making fun of myself on the internet, I'd be quite an idiot for having this channel - if you can't laugh at yourself, you would have to be quite a prick.

I live in a high wind area. 60-70mph on a clear day is not unusual. 15-35 is a gentle day. Without gps you simply will not fly here very often at all. If you don't like it then don't use it. But it's an evil necessity in some geographical locations.
