FMA Greed Animatic [Stronger by the Score]

After nearly two years of planning here it is, the animatic that's been stuck in my head ever since I first heard this song back in 2018.
I honestly wasn't ever sure if I'd be able to make it since this song is a mix of fast paced with slower portions, and I didn't think static images would fit very well, but being able to learn and adapt animation tools like keyframes made it all possible.
All art and animation was done within Clip Studio Paint over the course of 12 months. Overall this animation has 70 shots made up of 11 active animation folders, with the more complicated shots having up to 7 pieces moving at a time. I frankly lost track of the number of layers used, but it was well over 1200 when all was said and done.

Hahaha in my own defense I was just using the manga as reference instead of the anime, which uses the cross design

There's plenty of great moments in this animatic, but i actually really love the bit at the end where the eyes shift to Greed's. Has some interesting implications hehe

Oooooh now I have ideas for a fic or something where he uses the stone when he gets back to Xing and through the power of plot it turns out to be Greed in the stone alongside the other souls. Of course Greed doesn’t remember anything and he’s doing his best to rampage or do 0 character development Greed stuff or whatever, but Ling’s just there like ‘alright buddy I’ve done this before this isn’t my first time’ and Greed is even more shocked at how Ling can stay in control than the first time (which he doesn’t remember, but will, maybe once he hears news of another character’s death) Opens up some cool possibilities to see Xing and to get more GreedLing content to fuel my soul :>

God this is INCREDIBLE, love how each scene has so much movement without needing to be fully frame animated, its such a cool effect

I keep coming back to this AMV, and every time it makes me mentally ill. The scene at 1:22 with Greed stumbling away, overcome with grief, smearing Bido's blood on the wall... argaraghargl.

The sketch version was already a banger, but this one is delicious for the eyes and ears. Only a true Greed fan could have made this. I think you handled the transmissions really well given the changes of pacing in the song. Also, there is some things here I wish I incorporated into my video, there were some things you did with the text that I really like here like 0:30. That little bit of variety is really nice. Man, you make me want to make another one again!

Ah thanks so much for the kind comment! I'm so glad you enjoy some of the text because I straight up wasn't even going to add that in until like two weeks ago lol - the whole vid was actually ready by Christmas but I figured it'd be worth adding it in since I'd seen so many vids like yours that used it to great effect. And oh man if you make another one I'll be first in line to see it! XD

ok, big thank you for making this incredible masterpiece of animation. The details and attention is amazing, Greed is my favorite character from Fma (my favorite manga also) and just, seeing him still getting animated masterpiece like that just makes me so happy because he’s such a great character. I’m so glad I saw your incredible animation and it is sure as hell it won’t be the last time I’m watching it :)

I recently introduced a friend to FMAB (we haven’t finished it yet but I DESPERATELY want to show them this animatic it’s so good) and they’d seen me posting (read: going insane) about Greedling, so when both characters appeared in the show for the first time I had to go ‘Ok hang in there trust me on this guy just wait till he gets some character development in him it’s alright I promise’ But really though Arakawa does not mess around heck I love those 2 sm-
