nothin beats a fire siren at 3am

Hahah, I was on a search and rescue with Civil Air Patrol, and we stayed in a firehouse, and sure enough at 2 or 3 AM, it went off and woke everyone up, but I wouldnt complain.

I agree with you, we had to stop ours after 8 o'clock because the neigbhours complained. I bet they wouldn't complain if the call was for them.

the model 5 is a mile away at a company that was dispatched on the house fire.and obviously newport was dispatched on a different run for an alarm activation minutes later.

@shadyryan0740 The engine is Claymont 136 running as Newport 234 The ladder was stored in the longest bay because the tractor was going out to be fitted to a new LTI.

This makes me wish our siren still worked. I like the in house klaxon though, we have one also.

@fmartinjr Has nothing to do with videos. Love your siren! Surprised that in this day, with modern technology, anyone still uses fire sirens. (I own an active Federal Signal 2t22 siren.) But there can be times when a siren may not be heard, such as in better sound insulated vehicles and homes, etc. (Our house with double-pane windows is quieter than our old brick house with single-pane windows.)

@oso702 Not an Air Raid siren.An outdoor siren.This application is for a Fire Department so it is called a Fire Siren.

@fmartinjr My station still has the house siren. That is what I use to respond as I don't have a pager yet, and a lot of the other responders' pagers don't work some of the times so they rely on it to go off. However, the pagers do tend to go off a little bit before the siren

@robertgift well my department doesn't have an ambulance, but yes we have pagers. In my county, for my FD, they set off the tones that set off our pagers, then we hear a voice dispatch twice, then at the end of the dispatch, they set off another set of tones that activates our siren. The only calls it doesn't go off for is fire police calls. But it goes off for everything else

@TheUban123 This isn't the life.The Life varies.This whole state except for private facilities and the city of Wilmington is Volunteer.My life consists of going to work 40-60 hours a week,staying at home on my time off,when I'm available-and the whistle blows-respond to the station for the call at hand.The guys do get together and go out for the evening etc.

Wow that was weird with the sirens I would have flipped out.

Surprised that anyone uses fire sirens any more, now that pagers, alpha-numeric pagers and Minitors exist.

Depends, they may use diff tones for diff things. Example Fire-Attaack Mode[This] Tornado- Alert[Steady] HAZMAT- Fast Wail [this with shorter peaks and drops]

@robertgift , not really surprising,at least not to me.There are hundreds of videos on here of current fire calls with house siren activations.You need to search more before you come to this conclusion.Pagers have been out nearly 50 years and Fire sirens were still used from those first days of the pager.Not all fire fighters have pagers/cell phones/Alpha pagers etc.I have and will make calls due to the outdoor siren activation.

i did record just that.but all the complainers about blowing the sirens early in the morning with little or no traffic,none of them showed up.three man crew,myself,and the two paid guys.and it was lights and no siren at all.i shoud have rode as officer and ladder 4'd it.ladder 4 is from when i was a kid.the seagrave tiller 3 blocks from my house,when it responded,the officer peg;d the q from responding to arrival.from 1981-1990.

@fmartinjr Our alpha-numeric pager has never failed that I know of. It works even in the core of hospitals and without disturbing everyone as a siren does.

Yeah,that's the only time the complainers don't mind the sirens and horns,when it's for them or their family and friends.

@robertgift Once again I'll say,not all responders have pagers and cell phones.I have a Fire pager,cell phone,several scanners and an in-district house siren.But my call total,annually from being a vollie,comes from the house siren.

I live within a mile of the fire station.Most of my down time was chilling out at the fire station.

@VFVFCo68 Do they also use pagers, radios, Minitors or combination? Only for fires or also rescue and medical calls? If rescue/medical, does the public not get annoyed with all the noise? Siren is music to my ears, but I can understand others hating it. Surprised, FM, Jr, thathe pagers go off BEFORE the siren. Wow, I have been missing out on all the "con't." activities.

@fmartinjr, Well once again, what is it for? This sort of system is not used in the West coast. In my years of LE out of CA and NV, I've never seen this system before.

There wasn't one spot to view in reference to the title. I viewed in the direction of the House sirens,Federal "Q" sirens,and direction of the house fire.And the "next time that I post a video?" This video was added to my channel OVER 4 years ago! The video was shot in 2006,six years ago.I'll be alright over here with my vid posts.I'm going to go look at your videos to see how much better they are than mine.

@niceparkjob Yes,my company had the Investigation at the Military Eduacational Facility.I was the only volunteer to respond,along with 2 paid men.1 engine short crew.

I don't feel bad for him/her because the fire staton was there before him/her.Before you move into an area learn what's in the vacinity of the house/apartment complex or development.Pagers have been in this department before you were born.

@fmartinjr well then if you dont have brotherhood then somethin is goin wrong, i know around my area brotherhood is strong, and true. we are always together always talking and doing every possible thing we can for each other and family. And im sorry you feel that way about firefighters, after all we do risk lives for others. although it seems like you are a firefighter. Maybe if your not getting the brotherhood or if you have had bad experience you should consider a change in departments.

@robertgift Sure,it has to do with videos.The videos are showing what I'm explaining to you.Just like this video here.So with the videos showing the proof,it's obvious and not surprising.There are hundreds of Fire stations still usung house sirens.Just like you said there are times when sirens can't be heard.There are also times when "modern technology" fails,and the sirens still are operable.
