My unboxing and review of my FMGammon Talat board, made from pure mahogany and accompanied by a bevy of amazing leather accessories. This is FMGammon's 'top shelf' board, with ultra luxurious leather additions, including a leather bound scoreboard, leather wallet, leather dice container for the two sets of precision dice, a leather notepad with score sheets, and a set of interchangeable playing surfaces. The board comes with the dark 'Taki' wood grain playing surface with orange and light wood points, and was accompanied by an interchangeable set with a rich blue surface, with light blue and white points, very similar to the playing surface of my Hamdi board, previously reviewed some months ago.
The quality of this pure mahogany board cannot be overstated. The wood looks like it was made from honey, and has a beautiful sheen to it. The tone of the checkers and dice on the wood interior playing field is deep and rich, much like my beechwood FMGammon Mete board. The checkers are a marbled brown with white flecks, and white with brown marbling; they look like candy, and are amazingly thick and hefty. The dice cups are made from mahogany and are lined, giving the dice a warm tone when shaking the cups.
The playing fields are easily changed with the powerful magnet that accompanies the accessories. The magnet pulls up a corner of the playing surface, allowing it to be removed easily and replaced with the perfectly cut alternative. It's like having two different boards available at a moment's notice. This is really cutting edge technology that I hope FMGammon begins to incorporate into all its boards. It's very easy to change the surfaces, and adds an element of class to the overall package. I had a second set of perfectly sized checkers in blue and white, from my Mete board, meaning that I have two totally different layouts at my fingertips when I play with the blue alternative surfaces.
This is the most luxurious pure wood backgammon board that I've ever seen or laid my hands on. A new benchmark from FMGammon, which is, in my opinion, leading the way in backgammon board design and style. The variety of interchangeable playing surfaces is excellent, as are the selection of new board styles available at reasonable prices. I can't say enough about Fuat and Mete's commitment to making the best backgammon boards on the market.
