If you see him in the novel or even in the other versions, he never did anything to XIchen, he never put Gusu Lan in his plans, he never specifically hurt something that referred to Xichen or his environment specifically and if he did. We see in Da-ge, in the end Da-ge was not even half of what Xichen was for A-Yao and his illusion with his wife and son were not either because it was they were the only mistake he made because he did not know it was his sister and his son was going to be an obstacle to everything he did with his own hands. I don't justify A-Yao, but I understand him in all his facets and he shouldn't have been judged that way.
