In this video, ‪@JamesReeves‬ reviews the FN Reflex and compares it to the SIG P365, which is perhaps the most popular micro compact pistol on the market. James discusses the features of this new micro compact pistol from FN America. It is a slim, one-inch pistol that is easy to conceal and carry. The Reflex is chambered in 9mm and has a 3.3-inch barrel. It is striker fired and has a capacity of 11 or 15 rounds. The Reflex also has an optional factory-milled slide for mounting a micro red dot sight in the Holosun K-pattern. James also tests the reliability of the FN Reflex with 540 rounds of mixed ammunition, including personal defense hollow points.
Here are some of the key features of the FN Reflex:
Slim, one-inch profile for easy concealment
3.3-inch barrel
Striker fired
11 or 15-round capacity
Factory-milled slide for mounting a micro red dot sight (optional)

As a fellow lefty, I'm curious how the mako is recoil wise?
@-_-_-_-318
@-_-_-_-318 11 ай бұрын
@michalis75 recoil is pretty soft compared to other micro 9's but that's mainly because the Mako is on the larger size, at 19oz and a little longer and wider, it's better compared against the P365XL or the Glock 26, than the regular P365 or Hellcat for instance.

I love my other FN pistols, including the 509CT and the 45T. I also never had a problem with the older FNX9. The only problem I ever had with any of them was with anemic ammo inc 45 ammo that led to some stove piping on the 45T -- switching to the other spring fixed that, though. I switched to better ammo, BTW. I may have to scratch the FN itch on the Reflex.... I hate money.

Great run down on the new FN!! I’m a P365 diehard fan and would give it up for the FN when they introduced a model with a thumb safety. I’m not carrying a single action hammer fired gun, appendix without a thumb safety. Just my two cents.
@kgoldric
@kgoldric 11 ай бұрын
I'm a big fan of thumb safeties. FN has a great amby safety on their FNX45 tactical. Flip it down and the gun + your grip is ready to shoot, flip it up it lets you reset the hammer to double action for some added resistance for the first shot. While that gun is a beast and is an outside the waistband kinda gun I think having that exact safety functionality would be perfect on this little guy. Not sure if the size would prevent all the internals required for an internal hammer DA/SA, safety + reset. Looking at the FNX tac internals, I think they should be able to pull it off in the reflex.

Absolutely concur with you brother. It's interesting how people fall into one of two camps... Those that like thumb safeties... And those that don't. Just like bolt action rifles that don't have a bolt lock... I just can't bring myself to carry a pistol that doesn't have a thumb safety.

What I don't get is why Walther hasn't made a microcompact format 9mm yet. If it was basically a slightly reconfigured PPS M2 with 10-12 round mags, that would be a pretty awesome gun. Just strange they haven't entered the fray when they had one of the best single stacks.

@@BunkerNinja I could see that, but how is the Hellcat, which is manufactured by HS Product in Croatia, in the US? Is some legal loophole where it's sold under the brand of a US based company and Walther can't pull that off under its own brand as a German based company? And is the Glock 43x just built in the US or do they just have the pull to get through import restrictions?
@Nitroaereus
@Nitroaereus 11 ай бұрын
@@benjamin3290 I don't know if that's necessarily indicative of much. Microcompacts are very much CCW geared guns. They're not the best shooting or highest capacity. They're just the best shooting, highest capacity guns that are really easy to conceal carry. As far as I'm aware, there really isn't anything approaching even a fraction of the US concealed carry market in Europe. Who would be legally CC-ing in Germany? Plainclothes police officers, maybe a tiny fraction of civilians with dangerous jobs or political pull to get some sort of permit? There's just not much of a market to produce a new very CCW geared handgun if you can't import it to the US. If there is difficulty with importing small handguns to the US as suggested, and European plainclothes police are largely happy with their 6/7+1 PPSs, I could see that explaining why they haven't produced a Microcompact. The question that would be left open in that case though is how other European manufacturers like Glock, HS Product, FN (or heck, even Taurus in Brazil) have imported Microcompacts?

So I bit the bullet and put in an order at my local bang bang dealer. I got back from a 5 day canoe trip to a voicemail that said it had arrived! Currently have 400 rounds through it, just like you, lube free. I have had one light primer strike. Other than that, flawless. I am so glad I decided to get one. The wife gets the 365! @@Sklounst_Actual yea I would if I felt I needed to as it is in a holster so trigger should be covered and if you’re worried about it being a light trigger you could always leave it double action but honestly with a 1911 it’s fairly easy to train yourself to disengage the thumb safety while drawing the weapon but if one felt the need to yea, once again if nothing is pulling the trigger (a finger) then the gun will not go bang so just be mindful however you carry
@justhere8149
@justhere8149 9 ай бұрын
@@Sklounst_ActualI understand where your coming from but it's not so much about accidentally going off in your pants but rather with this light of a trigger there is no room for error if you draw the pistol under stress no take up. So no finger on trigger at ALL until you need to fire that shot. That's a good rule for any firearm but especially so with a trigger this light. Remember the Walther CCP I always liked how it felt in hand but like this Reflex that Walther CCP slide had to go all the way back or it would not reset the trigger and I mean all the way back so I never bought one. I really don't know but I can see myself impulse buying this one day if it's in front of me again.

I personally carry a fn 509c tach and a shadow systems cr920. I haven't really been super crazy about the cr920 but love love love my 509. Everything is leaps and bounds a head on the reflex vs cr920. Can't wait to shoot it and sell my cr920 to pay for my fn. Holster wise just going to have one made at my local gun club. I'd like to see how it compares to the hellcat. I recently let my hellcat go, so I'm looking for a replacement, and I love FN handguns. Never got around to jumping on the 509 train, but my FNX45 tactical and 510 are awesome handguns. Great video as always. Keep up the good work!

Bought mine today 3 weeks after this video. Almost didn’t buy because of the holster issue. Went to the holsters there at the gun store and figured there’s nothing and I’ll get a cheap universal till I figure it out. I found the FN section and thought there’s no way. I ended up walking right up to a Reflex holster made by FN!! It was kydex with a cutout for the red dot and only ran me like $45!

Reportedly, these are 19,000 backordered, found mine at G4G. Little different experience than yours as far as reliability. 115 gr Winclean turned it into a one or two shot, failing to go into battery too many times. Still qualified, and then ran about 100 more rds. Hollow point, ball and some Flat nose BEB. Only one additional failure to chamber and that was the BEB. Really liking this pistol. Disappointed that the front night sight isn’t one. Waiting on FN for instruction on remedying that. All said. I’m toting it now. Intrigued by the hammer fire.

Great video. I just picked one up yesterday. Hopfully getting to the range today. I see a reflex sight in my near future too. I have been carrying a G43 (with a 2 rd extension) for the last several years. IMHO. Glock needs to step up their game when it comes to capacity. I am disappointed that they didn't change much with the Gen. 5's. Oh BTW, the reflex fits into my G43 holsters (Bravo concelement & 1791), Not perfectly but today for now.

I had to make the switch. It's the best micro compact on the market I have well over 2k rounds through my 365 & the first drills I did with my Reflex already had me topping my best times with the 365. That trigger is significantly better.

I liked the FN pistols pre-509 series. Even Owned the FNS9 compact back in the day- mostly because of the slide styling (appeared slimmer like a cz). Wish they'd bring it back since now all the pistols look nearly the same. The single action internal hammer is oh so tempting. I love my 365- and it shoots so well just not sure I need anything else.

FNS-9C was my first purchased pistol, and I loved it. Outshot a few local acquaintances that had suped up Glock's and M&P's. They stopped inviting me out after a few trips. Wish FN didn't drop the quality on the internals when they went to the 509. Strikers are much worse than the older ones. Also popping the pins out to do internal work is almost guaranteed to damage your frame. Had to wait 6 months for a replacement 509 frame after the local smiths followed FN's directions to remove the locking block pin. If you don't mess with them, FN guns are awesome. If you do, hope you never have to deal with their shit customer service. Civilians are the lowest priority for them.

It's interesting, but im probably going to wait for the HK simply for the paddle release. If Walther released a micro compact with a paddle i'd be all over it; as it stands i haven't touched a new Walther since they went full button release.
@riflemanm16a2
@riflemanm16a2 11 ай бұрын
Paddle release master race. Paddle release is better for ccw. It’s rare for the mag to eject during carry, but it has happened a couple times to me (edit: with regular button releases). Also heel releases on super small guns are better. It’s annoying to see everyone complain when a gun actually has a unique feature until the company stops making guns with that feature. I have a ton of P99 magazines, and one reason I haven’t bought new Walthers is that I don’t want to buy a bunch more of the same magazine with a slightly different mag release cut.

I really like carrying my P30SKS V3, albeit with the Grey Guns trigger upgrade to shorten the reset, but if HK’s new micro comes with a variant with a real safety rather than just a trigger safety I think I might have to switch to it

Personally I won't carry a gun with such a light trigger, without at least a trigger safety (preferring a thumb safety). I know I might be in the minority of current gun buyers, but I feel like FN should offer this with thumb safety option. There's a sizable market with people like myself which is why sig and s&w both offer that as an option on their micro 9s. I'm wondering if it is very challenging to build in a thumb safety with internal SAO. There is probably very limited space over there since the hammer eats up that same real estate.
@riflemanm16a2
@riflemanm16a2 11 ай бұрын
I feel the same way. I remember 10-15 years ago, every single small carry gun was DAO. Now, absolutely everything is SAO. The Shield EZ is single action internal hammer fired also, but it at least has a grip safety (albeit a poorly designed one).

I bought my FN Reflex and I love it. It's my first gun so I can't compare it; however, my more experienced friends are quite impressed. Other than the Sig P365, it was the ONLY gun I can reach with my short, fat trigger finger. I was about 1/8 of an inch too short from firing so many other sub-compact 9mm's; so, if you have short fingers like me, this gun is a must try. All my best.
