I honestly think that the "malfunctions" the animatronics have are actually the children either trying to call for help or it is them trying to warn other people. Exactly how the "cutseens" were basically them trying to warn people. Once passive animatronics now becoming covert killing machines fueled by the wrath of the spirits of the dead children. With henry's fears realized, it was already too late. The souls had taken over the robot bodies and Henry escaped leaving the nightguards to fend for their lives... And one Recorded tape that was left behind.
