FNAF: Michael Afton, Where Are You? (Five Nights at Freddy's Explained - FNAF Theory)... the question has been around since the first game, who are FNAF's Nightguards like Mike Schmidt, Jeremy Fitzgerald and Fritz Smith? Who do we play as in every game, even FNAF 4? Are we sure we play as Michael Afton in all of them - even FNAF 3? This question arises more recently however due to the Character Encyclopedia disregarding Michael entirely and pretending as if he doesn't exist. So, let's rewind and go through all the games and figure out... Michael Afton, where are you?

Five Nights at Freddy's is an indie video game series and media franchise created by Scott Cawthon, later adapted by Steel Wool Studios and Illumix. It has further grown to big platforms such as Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo with Console Ports, also reaching all Mobile platforms and all Computer platforms. The video game series currently has 10 games, FNAF, FNAF 2, FNAF 3, FNAF 4, FNAF 5/Sister Location, FNAF 6/Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, FNAF: Ultimate Custom Night (FNAF: UCN), FNAF VR: Help Wanted, FNAF AR: Special Delivery and FNAF: Security Breach. The franchise also spans out across multiple series' of books (Main Book Series, Freddy Files, The Ultimate Guide, Fazbear Frights, Tales From The Pizzaplex, and the Official Character Encyclopedia) and merchandise (FNAF POPs, FNAF Plushies and some FNAF Board Games), with a FNAF Movie coming soon.
After the Five Nights at Freddy's Character Encyclopedia released and disregarded Michael Afton (William Afton's son, Crying Child and Elizabeth Afton's older brother) entirely, it got a lot of people to begin to question whether we really play as Michael in all of these games. So today I go through all the evidence that points to us playing as Michael (or 'Mike') in every single one of them, including evidence from the games, the Survival Logbook, and more. I also give my thoughts on "The Immortal and the Restless" TV show and break down what I think it's showing us. So, is this FNAF's Story Solved? Maybe even FNAF 4 Solved? Let's find out.

So one minor quibble I have is the 'fire/heat destroys remnant'. I know the blue prints SAY it does that, but like... at no point in any of the games does it seem to have actually done that? The Fnaf 3 fire didn't stop anything at all, and it really doesn't look the fnaf 6 fire did either. I know it's not the most satisfying answer in the world, but I think it's possible that Will and Henry are just... wrong about the effects of heat on remnant.

it actually says “there is a possibility that overheating might neutralise the effects permanently.” i think scott specifically worded it like that to emphasise that’s why it hasn’t worked in the past - but it is weird that that’s made aware of in the blueprints yet we never see it come into play lol

if only Scott just made it say the heat for Remannt to be neutralised needs to be over 150 degrees or something like that which could easily explain away FNAF 3's fire not working but 6's working, but no you're right there's a genuine chance it didn't work due to "there is a POSSIBILITY" haha

Maybe there’s a specific difference between *remnant* and *agony* and only remnant can be destroyed by fire? But the agony lives on and may be indestructible or much harder to get rid of because agony is such a horrifically powerful emotion?

I always assumed that meant it was intended for just a stranger, since he originally had a way for them to get out and not burn anyways, but since it's Michael he knew he wouldn't want to leave

Thought came to me at work today around the esoteric symbolism of the relationship between Vlad, Clara, and The Baby not being about Mike and William but about Mike and Fazbear entertainment. He'd have probably reported the abnormal stuff to an "HR/Employee complaints Dropbox" or any passerby who'd overhear a possessed corpse walking home after his shift, if his notes in the survival logbook are to go off of, with him complaining like Clara, Fazbear denying/brushing off any such claims as Vlad, and the Baby representing the animatronic's/Dead children's shenanigans, and their complicated relationships between each other.

The theory about the Crying Child imparting his nightmares to Michael is interesting - I've not heard anyone suggest it before, but it makes sense, and explains the biggest problem I always had with Mike as the FNAF 4 player-character (i.e. that he's clearly a small child).

Do note that the wall code has no punctuation in its original state, so all commas and periods that may influence its meaning were added by matpat and the translators.

Something I haven’t seen anyone talk about that helps prove Michael is indeed Fritz Smith are the cutscenes between nights in FNAF 2 They’re labelled as *dreams* in the files…dreams clearly had by someone who’s visited both Freddy’s locations (Set in the FNAF 1 building yet the Puppet appears)

I personally think that imortal and restless is a reference of William and Clara arguing about Michael afton. William Never cared about Michael nor wanted to have a child responsability I Used to think that the fnaf 6 back Halley posters are about afton family but it makes sense that its just the game characters: The bear: Molten Freddy The clown : Scrapbaby The old man: William The Puppet in the Mans Hand : the Puppet

I think it could be representative of both. It’s a little odd that those specific figures were chosen on the poster, very representative of the FNaF 6 enemies you listed, so already that part makes sense. But it also lines up with the Aftons and how they’re described in lore and death, so that front also makes sense. So I think the poster represents both sides of that coin, The FNaF 6 enemies and The Afton Family

i want to correct you that Elizabeth died afted her little brother skull was smashed because it is confirmed that freadbears are first location and if you going to throw argument that it can happen at the same time remember what HandUnit stated in Sister location “Allow me to fill this somewhat frightening silence with some lighthearted banter. Due to the massive success, and, even more so, the unfortunate closing of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, it was clear that the stage was set (no pun intended) for another contender in children's entertainment. Unlike most entertainment venues, our robotic entertainers are rented out for private parties during the day, and it's your job to get the robots back in proper working order before the following morning.”also how Henry wouldn't notice it like the bills would be very big i think

Elizabeth definitely dies in 1983 in my opinion, that quote is talking about the Rental services - note the "our robotic entertainers are rented out for private parties", and we know Circus Baby's Pizza World was a real location much like Freddy's and Fredbear's where the animatronics stay there all day. The place Elizabeth died - Circus Baby's Pizza World - never actually opened either (it got cancelled) so it cannot be the one talked about in that quote. There is also a springlock suit which came from Circus Baby's Pizza World despite springlocks no longer being used post-bite/Fredbear's closing - and the Rentals location was around (not public though) during 1983, due to Fredbear and Springbonnie being on the "Breaker Room" map connected directly to Circus Gallery

IMO, given how the book’s language dances around Charlie and her character in the silver eyes books, I think the reason Micheal was cut is because the movie likely (hopefully) will go into Micheal’s story. They pry just don’t want to spoil the movie

Except for the part where Henry states that the job in Pizzeria Simulator wasn't intended for us and that there was a way to escape for whoever the job was meant for so maybe the job was meant for Michael but he didnt show or maybe he did and found the way out either way it explains why Michael might still be around

I think there's more information indicating that Michael might still be alive in security breach. There's a couple videos out there discussing it, off the top of my head I think there are some notes on white boards (with at least one in a security room I think?) including a reference to exotic butters. Normally that'd be easy to just call an Easter egg but between the mftn thing and Mike's room I'm not sure.

Ive put this theory on a couple of videos but nobody pays attention, with the way enard left michaels body thats no way to live how could he live like that his skin was purple meaning it was badly bruised he probably was in constant pain for all we know i believe he somewhat achived his fathers dream of living forever and used remnant to put his soul in another body/vessel maybe w animatronic whos body could he be in? glamrock freddy? vanessa? could he be the one who started the whole fnaf business back up (him being a man going into a women’s body wouldn’t be too weird we’ve seen it happen in other series like chucky)

Well there's a couple of theories that Michael survive fire since henrys plan didn't work it would makes sense if mikes remnant keeps him alive but I think Michael is working at pizzaplex and he saw a smart boy name gregory Michael and gregory were planning to destory glamrocks since Mike knows his dad is alive

yep I do, biggest piece of evidence is there being a springlock suit made for Circus Baby's Pizza World which never officially opened and was cancelled because of Elizabeth's death, but we know springlock suits were stopped after Fredbear's closed (from bite etc)

@@HyperDroid I see where you’re coming from, my only issue being that there’s no reason for afton to make a murder army before the bite victim, id likely say that the spring locks were discontinued but william made a spring lock suit to kidnap kids along with the fun times, not using an old one (since the faceplates seem to be that sort of funtime style). Spring locks get discontinued- afton makes suit anyway that he uses in tandem with the fun times different luring and capturing abilities.

Am I the only one who don't believe that Elizabeth died first and William created the fnaf 4 nightmares to cc to protecte him? Because, in the fnaf novels, elizabeth died in 1985 + Hand unit said that circus baby pizza world open's after FREEDY'S + also william created baby to kill children after he know about how remnant works , which it also mean after the MCL, Charlie, and the crying child died and he was kicked out from the business. Also I think the reason why did william created the nightmares for CC isn't to protect him, I mean those nightmares might give him a heart attack and that's isn't a way to keep ur son safe, it's just to teast the illusion discs, the crying child doesn't need scary nightmares to stay away from the Animtronics, He was bullied by the other children and his brother

Sea Bonnie's are not canon. The only stories from the books that are canon are the stitchline (epilogues + all stories directly referenced in the epilogues such as fetch and TMIR1280) and the Tales from the pizzaplex.

Hey! Weird thought I had while watching the video. In SB, Vanessa tells Glamrock Freddy that if he was helping Gregory, "Monty will run the shows until Parts and Services can slap your casing on a new endo." Seems to imply that the spirits/remnant latch onto the endoskeletons rather than any particular suit. By putting the casing on another endo, Freddy will look the same, he will be programmed to *act* the same, but there would be no spirit around to throw in any wild cards. Which is probably obvious to some people but 😅 It had me thinking about the Blob, how it's a mess of wires and metal and endoskeletons. The casings on the Blob wouldn't matter if we assume the spirits only attach to the endoskeletons.

remnant, remnant can grant immortality and William was experimenting with Remnant in the SL bunker, the scooper is confirmed to be a remnant injector and to be able to take remnant out,, Michael was scooped while it was charged filled with remnant hence why he basically reanimates despite all logical reasoning pointing to him being dead.

@@soonahero as he just explained, Michael is left out of the encyclopedia entirely. Not just Michael, but many characters are omitted from the book. We have in game evidence as well as evidence from the security logbook that proves that Michael is the playable character in FNAF 4. The Encyclopedia is good for some things, but there are too many inconsistencies because of it that can't be ignored.

You’re missing the point. They’re saying that because there are more canon sources saying it’s true then the one canon source you’re using must just be a simple mistake. This series is confusing and I imagine the writers of the encyclopedia just used information from the web or other creators like Dawko, and because of this the writers made some minor mistakes.

I have a problem with sister location where everyone is saying that you're playing as Michael Aften. There's evidence showing that you're not. When you first start you are asked to type in your name, and there is a name on it Mike. Why would your name already be on it? Than Baby mentions that you looked familiar basically a male security guard. Another theorist mentions something along those lines, also the absence of him in the latest book, which might be because they don't want to spoil it.

@@metalmk8714 There is an explanation for that. Michael was the first security guard and was scooped first, and his Remnant was in the scooper, and it went into the second person the one you are playing. You do not see Michael at the end only hears him but you do see Springtrap.

@@anhurtorrez That's is not a explanation, is a stretch just to justify that we're not playing like Michael. First you are making a lot of assumptions, why would be michael before the """protagonist""" that you say we play as, we don't have prove that a night guard died before the events of the games or that the remant in the scooper is from that guy, the only dead we know are about 2 Technicians, and that happens while we are playing not before the eventes of the game. Second from what i read your comment are implying that the remnant from Michael was inject in this ""second person"" that you keep talking and that remnant make Michael take the body from that person? Just why? the only instance that something remotly similar happen with remant is in the third book of the fourth closeth, and what happen is that one of the character was injeted with remant of the MCI in that universe, and he gained "memories" from the childrens of MCI no that the childrens take his body. and third i don't see what you wanna brought with your explanation about the cutscene? if it's you think that michael is springtrap that was debunked by Scott himself shortly after was discover the cutscene.

@@metalmk8714 I never said Michael was Springtrap I said that is the only person you see in that cut scene, the third book is where I am talking about. Also read my first comment, I Babe mentions something along those lines when she tells him to hid under the desk, the person before him made it. And as for the reason the fun time animatronics are still there is because the first time might of not went the way they was hoping it would. theres alot we do not know and it is a theory I am not saying it happened that way I am saying its a possibility. I do not know about you but everytime I am given a piece of equipment it never had my name on it, unless I put it on it.

Don't take it for rudeness, of course, but the current FNaF story, as well as its vision by the community, it sucks completely. Scott literally spits in your face - you have Evan Afton for all 8 years (it's easier to systematize who we are talking about, and the name suits him) in the encyclopedia is designated as a Crying Child, some important actors are missing, and most of the pages are filled with outright garbage. It is frightening how much some revel in these scanty crumbs that are thrown to them. As if if we were shown a poorly drawn Henry (who was frankly copied from the fans), then it supposedly makes sense to dig into all this further. And then some people still have the right to be outraged why part of the fandom adheres to the hypothesis that Mike is the younger brother in the family, when there is an allegory for two theories in the books. How can you understand a story that doesn't? Why in general should fans think of everything for the author, turning the franchise into a picture of abstractionism, where, of course, everyone will see THEIR OWN, and the disputes from which conflicts arise will never be refuted or confirmed? Human psychology has never worked like this and never will. Trying to go against it, against the principles established by nature itself, is idiocy.
