This video shows how to use GRA Secure Set Spray Foam to not only fill those voids under concrete slabs, but on how to raise them. We demonstrate this on the concrete floor of an old early 1930s era barn in Oklahoma where over the years water erosion has created a void underneath a concrete slab and caused the slab to crack and drop two inches. In this video you will see Secure Set Spray Foam used to not only fill the void underneath re-establishing it's support, but to lift the concrete slab to be level with the barn's other slabs. With Secure Set Spray Foam, you can lift your fallen concrete slab too, whether it belongs to a driveway, sidewalk, warehouse floor or whatever you have. You only need a 3/8 inch drill bit, masonry drill, black electrical tape, and an idea of how large the void is and a timer. Also check out another video we posted for raising a concrete slab: • Secure Set Spray Foam ... .... or • Raising Concrete Drive... .
To buy the Secure Set Spray Foam, please go to www.secureset.net to see our 2 different kits available (16.6 cu. ft. or 10 cu. ft. kit). Or you can call us direct at 405-672-8885 or email us at info@graservices.com with your shipping address and we will send you a quote, or go to secureset.net/shop-results/ to place an order.

I saw that you used a stethoscope and chalk to layout the void. How can you estimate how deep the void is when the access is limited? If I’m understanding correctly you’d need this information to estimate how much product to purchase.
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Kevin, Yes I used those to map out the hollow sound under the concrete. I had a good idea how deep the void was because I drilled and probed the area in several places. I wanted to get an idea how far the voids extended, even doing that I was surprised by the fact that what I thought was a 34 cubic foot void, actually turned out to be a 42 cubic foot void. Once the void area under the floor was filled, and no additional foam was coming out around the perimeter, I knew the foam then only had one way to expand, and that was UP. The expansion rate with the foam is slow enough that you can finesse your injections so you don't over fill the area. I would inject about ten seconds worth if foam, wait about 30 seconds then inject some more. Gradually the concrete started to rise, when we reached our goal, I stopped injecting the foam. Overall it took longer than I thought it would take, but then again I misjudged the size of the void under the concrete. I have visited the job site several times since the floor was fixed. The floor no longer flexes when heavy equipment rolls over the repair area and water no longer comes up through cracks in the floor after it rains. The owner is very pleased and expressed his gratitude many times over. Thank you

The slab in my garage cracked and has fallen about 5-7 inches at the back. The area that fell is about 10ftx 24ft. The rest of the slab seems fine, is intact and level. How can I assess if foam injection is appropriate? Do you have a video on how to estimate the size of the cavity and check if the slab movement will affect the house foundations? Is there a cut off point for cavity size in relation to the use of foam injection?

Hello Thom, For this project I did not use the endoscope that we employ now. The scopes are so affordable, that now I would not do any project without having one. The Depstech Model DS300 is the one I would recommend, it has both a down view and a side view with a focal range of about 10 inches. Using the scope will give you very good information and with the use of a simple probe you can determine the depth of the voids. A sunken piece of concrete as big as yours, I would first hammer sound the suspect area, drill some 3/8" holes and use the scope to get a good visual image of what is going on under the slab. Once you have done that, estimate the void area in either cubic inches or cubic feet. If you use inches, divide the total by 1728, that will give you the cubic feet measurement of the void. Each Secure Set Spray Foam kit will make 10 cubic feet of foam. Remember, if you want to raise the concrete back to level, the spray foam will always travel to the point of least resistance first. Once the area is filled, THEN it will start to lift the slab. Thank you.

I need to raise the concrete slab around my swimming pool. I opened the concrete in two places and can see a small gap between the concrete and the ground. The concrete is sitting on the pool frame and the ground underneath has settled over about 19 years. I need to take the load off my pool frame and fiberglass stairs. Could you provide more details on how you did this slab lifting? How big are the holes you drilled? The parts you inserted in the concrete: how many come in the kit and are they reusable? Any tips would be appreciated
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Matt, The first steps you have taken are good. One of the important aspects is to try and determine the extend of the voids and also the volume you need filled. Remember, the expanding foam will always first move to the point of least resistance. However, once the voids are filled and there is no where else for the foam to go, it will start building expansive pressure under the concrete. Our Secure Set Spray Foam expands on a ratio of 2.5:1. It does not go crazy while it is expanding and therefore you have more control over the placement and end results of your injected area. Once the voids are filled, you will probably have to go back and re-drill the original holes. I would only go to just under the slab and just a little into the foam that has already set under the slab. Insert a new nozzle into the hole and start applying the foam slowly. You have about 30 seconds for the foam to sit in the nozzle before it starts to harden. Trigger small amounts to keep fresh foam in the nozzle. Monitor the level of the concrete slab, you will be able to watch it rise slowly while the foam under the slab is expanding. The slab may not raise up uniformly, so you may have to move the injection gun to a new hole and fill another area to allow the concrete to raise up smoothly and uniformly. It's not an exact science, but done deliberately, you will find the end results very satisfying. The holes you need to drill are 3/8th inch in diameter. Once the Spray Foam has hardened in the nozzles, they cannot be reused. There are 10 nozzles per kit and you can purchase extras if you need more. I use a 12 inch long drill bit, has worked well in all our applications. Thank you

The product you are referring to in the cans is probably Great Stuff or a similar product, which is not the same type of foam by any means. It is open cell foam, which will absorb water and it is a very low density foam; therefore, it easily crushes. Secure Set foam is closed cell, which means it will not allow moisture or air to absorb into or pass through it, and it is a very high density foam, which from a compression standpoint will support 10,080 lbs. per sq. ft. If we haven't already spoken by phone, given us a call and we will discuss your project with you and see if we have some suggestions, especially since you may be able to use our mix/pour foam to help fill some of the large voids for less cost and then use the spray foam to finish the filling and do the lifting. Thank you for this question, Jerry, it is actually something that people ask us by phone quite often. You will need to turn off the tanks, make sure to remove the nozzle, wipe the foam off the spray gun/tool very well, and apply a good coating of the petroleum jelly (that is included in the kit). Make sure to leave the lines pressurized and they should be good for at least 30 days. If it is not used during this time just spray it a bit every week to keep the lines fresh. The product in the tanks have an 18 month shelf life. If your lines do get air and harden, you can purchase another hose/tool kit with additional nozzles, as well, by calling our office at 405-672-8885.

Are you saying a homeowner could use these kits to raise our own basement slabs?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello JT, Yes, we have done projects like that. It is important to hammer sound the floor very well, determine where the voids are, drill the area and measure the depth of the voids. Try to get the best understanding you can about the condition under the slab. Most think the sunken slab is sitting on top of the dirt under the floor. Almost always we find the slab has sunk because there is a void of some kind under the floor. This will help you make the best decision as to what to do. The voids under the slab will always fill with foam before the floor ever starts to move. Knowing the volume you have to fill will prepare you for the kit, or kits, you will need to complete the job. Thank you

I have a flagstone patio with mortared joints that has sagged in a location away from the drain so water ponds and is a nuisance. Do you suppose that it would be possible to lift the sag with foam? The affected area is approximately circular and about ten feet across. The stones are about 1 by 3 feet on average. I had an estimate of $10000 to remove the stones, rework the ground underneath, and replace them. I’d like to try something cheaper without having to tear everything up. Might be possible to do a stone at a time?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Craig, We have worked flagstone projects. A stone at a time is actually the way to do it. Our expanding foam will lift the stone, keeping them all level is one of the challenges. Voids under the stones will be filled, as expanding foam will always travel to the point of least resistance first. Once the voids are filled, then the stone will start to move upwards. Thank you

Hey secure set, really considering buying your product. Is this ok to put in a slab butted up to a foundation of a house in my driveway?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Da Bruiser, Yes, the foundation of the home will act as a wall or barrier, the foam will then have to travel under the slab to the points of least resistance. Once all those voids are filled, then the foam will start to exert upward pressure under the slab. The issue is that it is difficult to determine how large the voids are under the slab. You may accomplish the slab raising with a single kit, or like others it may take two or three kits to fill all the voids then raise the slab. Hammer sounding the slab gives you a little insight into what conditions are like under the slab. Thank you

As a quick response to anyone with the following question: Can the nozzles be cleaned and reused, especially if you don't have time to wait for a new order of them. ANSWER: Yes, just break off the overflow piece at the top and then toss into a jar of Laquer thinner while you go about other things. Then, 5-10 minutes later, take one out and grab the outside of the nozzle with one hand and with a pair of needle nose piers, grab the top of the black mixer part and pull out. Toss the mixer with all the white foam back into the jar of Laquer Thinner for a few minutes and pull it back out and hold it on a bench or whatever while you dip an old toothbrush into the thinner and brush the old foam right off. Suggest you wear 9mm rubber gloves and eye protection, but you can easily do this while waiting for the last injection to harden.

I have a number of questions not answered in the FAQs on the website: 1. What do you use to trim off the overflow foam? 2. Should the overflow foam be cut flush or undercut? 3. Should that crack and the joint between slabs be filled using something like a flexible crack filler? 4. You mentioned that water flow caused this originally--Have there been cases where the water then flowed AROUND your foam and undercut again, causing the same problem all over again? 5. Have you used this technique under homes built on a slab that have settled? This is a problem in our neighborhood in Kansas. Some of my neighbors have had to have expensive hydraulic concrete jacking done for a whole room of their house that is built on a slab that settled, and I may have some of the same kind of thing going on in my house.
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comments. 1. You can cut the dried foam with a saw and then you would want to spray paint over all the cut area so it will remain as a closed cell foam. 2. Some people leave the foam cut level and paint over it, and some do undercut it, paint, and then fill the hole with a concrete patch product. 3. There is a lot of available information on-line explaining what to use and not to use to fill the gaps between concrete slabs. We do not sell those products; therefore, we recommend researching and using what is appropriate for your type of slab. 4. We have not personally experienced this issue. If the water is not redirected, then continued wash out of the soil around and under the foam could happen. 5. We have not personally used the Secure Set foam under a house slab, but we have many customers that do this, as well as pier and beam companies and basement repair contractors, etc. Hope this information is helpful. We wouldn't be able to tell you that for sure, since every project is different. We haven't lifted a structure, but we have many customers that have done so. If this is an area you can use a mechanical jack and then use the high-density spray foam (supports 10,080 lbs. per sq. ft.) for the backfill/support, that is how we would approach this particular type of project. That way you can be assured of lifting exactly where you want it, vs possibly overlifting and experiencing other issues. This type of foam is expected to be in the ground 40+ years. Did you fix what caused the VOID to begin with first other wise it will happen again
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jose, The void was caused by a landscaping change on the west side of the building. A berm that was on the west side, that was used to divert rainwater from running down the sloped hill was leveled out by the owner in order to accommodate a new gravel road to the back of the property. By leveling the berm, the rain water came down the hill and backed up along the west wall of the building. The gravel road was laid in 2001, so the rain water had 20 years to wash out the soil under the slab. A new smaller, but still effective berm was plowed between the building and the gravel road to direct the water to the south of the building. All is well now. Thank you

Thank you for your comment. You don't always know how much void space you have under a slab to fill, since the foam will definitely find places to run to and fill. It is a finessing project. You have to work it slowly and listen as well as watch for movement. Allow 2 to 2-1/2 minutes for the foam to fully expand and start to harden, so using short bursts of spray is the best way to apply once you think you have gotten closer to filling the void.

During the application of the Secure Set Spray Foam to fill voids it generally will pop up through the cracks and fill them, as well. It is a closed cell foam that will help from the moisture coming through the cracks, but you would not want to attempt to inject the foam when there is standing water in that area. The foam will not develop into a dense foam when water or too much moisture is present during the application process and the foam expansion and hardening stages. You would need to solve the water leaks before applying the foam. Thank you, GRA Services - Secure Set

Thank you for the comment. Sometimes customers don't realize how much void space they have or that the foam will find during the application. It will always move to the low pressure and least resistant areas during the 2-1/2 to 3 minutes it is expanding and moving and before hardening. It helps to predrill holes and drop an endoscope camera to see how much void space and the tunnels and such when you don't have a good side access to view the voids. The kits are not cheap to have made because of the metal, plastics, as well as the polyol products, as well as shipping costs. As we all know prices just keep going up as the supply chain issues have not stabilized still. Sorry to hear you were not happy. Hopefully you at least have a better support under your deck with the foam you used and don't continue to have wash out or soil settling in those areas. GRA Services

Hi, I was considering using this product for the same application, sunken pool deck halfway around my pool, I was wondering how you ended up? I know you said you didn't have enough product what did you end up buying more and did it work?

How do you know when to stop injecting? I'm concerned that I'd end up with the slab that used to be 2" lower and is now 2" higher.

Hello, The nice thing about this particular spray foam is that it is a little slower to react. Takes about 30 to 40 seconds to expand and the expansion is 2.5:1 It is quite easy to spot the movement of the concrete and regulate what you need. The most important thing is to make sure the "Dropped" edge of the concrete is moving and not the entire slab. We put weights along the crack line where the concrete failed and dropped into the cavity. This helped to keep that side of he slab stable and allow the dropped edge to swing back up into position. Thank you, Good Question !

Secure Set - I’m with Rebecca, still unclear on how you know when to stop pumping as to not over fill the void. My order is on its way.

Hello Kraze, Secure Set Spray Foam will fill one cubic foot of space for every one full minute you pull the trigger on the application gun. Knowing the void that is under the concrete is important. If that is not possible, when the foam starts to come out of cracks in the concrete, you know you have filled that specific area. I hope this helps. Thank you

How do you know when to stop so that you don't over fill it
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Bruce, When injecting the foam under the concrete, you do it in 2 to 3 second bursts, wait about 20 to 30 seconds and do it again. You can hear the foam expanding and you can watch the concrete move quite slowly as the foam expands. Overfilling is not as critical as one might imagine. Thank you.

How long does the foam last?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and your question. Secure Set high density, closed cell structural foam is projected to last 40+ years, since nothing really breaks it down and there is no nutritional value to it so nothing eats it. Even if it is exposed to the sun it just changes color, it doesn't break down. GRA Services - Secure Set

Hello S L S, Once the void under the slab has been filled with high density foam, since foam does not shrink, it will not settle like the native soil did in the first place. Thank you

Multiply the length/width/depth in inches and divide by 1728 cu. in. to get cubic ft. This kit will create 10 cu.ft. of foam.

Hello, At this time we are not allowed by the Canadian Gov. to ship Haz Mat material into Canada. We can ship the Secure Set Mix & Pour products, but not the Spray Foam. The pressurized metal containers for the Spray Foam is considered Haz Mat, not the product inside. Thank you

Update for Canada: We do not ship our Secure Set Spray Foam canisters over the border, but we can ship to a U.S. border location and customers can have it forwarded from there or pick it up over the border. Our price to the U.S. border location is included in the price of the kit.

#1 where are your knee pads? haha #2 how far from the expansion joint do you drill the holes for the ports? #3 Why can't you just attach 1 port to the nozzle and just move it from one hole to another?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Mike; I drilled the holes about 8 inches from the expansion joint. After hammer sounding the whole area, I knew there was a void under the concrete beyond the expansion joint. I wanted the foam to be able to travel under the joint and still lift the sunken area. As far as moving the nozzle from one drilled hole to the next, that is possible. I just wasn't thinking far enough ahead, in that I did not make wooden dowel plugs to insert into the filled hole after extracting the nozzle. The expanding foam will squirt out of the hole if you do not plug it quickly. Also, you need to move the nozzle quickly or leave it in the hole and have the nozzle act as the plug, because the foam will harden in about 30 seconds in the nozzle and then it has to be changed anyway. Since the project took four Spray Foam Kits, I had plenty of nozzle, there are ten nozzle per kit. As far as the knee pads, the project took longer than I expected, I should have had some on; took Aleve afterward to overcome stiff and hurting joints. So goes the process of bringing a new product to an established industry. It is all good now, and we are helping people solve concrete issues all over the country. Biggest satisfaction is to hear so many reports and testimonies from customers about ease of use, great results and the savings of significant money versus the alternative of hiring it to be done. Thank you

We've never had a Spray Foam kit in that price range, so I'm not sure where you found that info. We made this particular video in 2021, which was during a time after the pandemic that supply chain issues became a big issue. Prices went up on every component of these kits twice that year for the polyol products, steel canisters, plastic parts, the gas, also the boxes, and even shipping rates increased. We have only increased prices for these kits as our manufacture had to increase our prices. We have not increased prices since May 2022, so that is 2 years that we have been able to hold the price steady. As with most everything, prices have gone way up and never seem to be able to come back down, but I suppose we can be hopeful things will change. Thank you for considering GRA Services Secure Set Spray Foam.

Why bother with this when you can get a professional company like CRC Concrete Raising & Repair to do it for about $1,600, including labor in about 90 minutes and provide a warranty? How many static mixing nozzles did you use? and at what cost?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Respectfully, with more than 40 cubic foot of void to fill, you are completely out of touch with today's costs for what it takes to raise concrete. I see you are in the business of raising concrete, just getting the size of the truck you have to the jobsite is a considerable expense. The fact that a homeowner can do this themselves, on their schedule, and be anywhere in the USA , is a huge gain and cost savings for 1000's of people that have this issue. There are 10 static mixers included in each kit, and they come free of cost. So when we used 4 kits, the homeowner had 40 mixers he could use. The fact that we can also reach voids that are as far away as 50 feet with our tube extensions, gives the homeowner unbelievable flexibility for all the conditions they may face. If you are a homeowner reading these comments, take heart in the fact that the effort we spent in developing this product was to allow you to do things that contractors used to tell you they were the only ones that could do it.
