I was there in 2010-2011 and that chow hall was one of my favorites. It was the night shift chow hall... had the best drinks (Gatorade) lol always had pretty good chicken fingers or straps lol and frys... lol....

My son was at FOB Sharana in 2009. He was there about 14 or 15 months. I've been trying to search for videos to see if I happen to see him. His name is Timothy Byrd. His group came from the Alaska base. Any chance you might have known him? He passed away 3 1/2 years ago.

I’m very sorry for your loss sir. I may have known your son, I keep seeing the name Byrd on a uniform in my memories thinking back. I remember the Alaska battalion very well. I was there for two years and 14 out of the 24 months was with the Alaska 101st. Unfortunately we were not supposed to take pictures or videos of US or Coalition forces, so I doubt he’d be in any of my videos. Command said it was a security risk for the soldiers.. Do you have a picture of Tim for me to take a look at? I’m curious whether or not I knew him now

@@DODDOC thank you. He went by TJ - but I don’t think anyone was ever called by their first name in the military. I don’t know how to post his picture on here but I can send it to you via email if you tell me your email. Tauni

FOB Sharana had a much nicer dining facility than this in 2006-2007. I'm thinking this might actually be FOB Rushmore, just down the road from FOB Sharana.

Sharana had 2 DFAC’s when I a got there in August 2008. The main DFAC is the one you remember. This is the RSOI DFAC a/ka/ Camp Badger. It was closer to the air strip and SOC center. We we’re an overflow for transient soldiers relieving outpost , special forces & there prisoners

@@DODDOC That makes sense. The area by the air strip was like its own base. Can't believe it's all gone now.
