Thank you so much for this video. Had to change the battery on my Focus ST225 today, which on other videos/forum chats looked a nightmare. But after watching your video and removing the front flap, the battery just slid out. What a super quick job in the end. Thanks once again 👍

It's always a fiddly job on the focus, and that cover at the front that clips off confused me for a while when I first did it, as it's not obvious at first that it is removeable. Don't forget your radio code will need entering! It's worth noting the ECU will be reset, so it's a good idea to do an ECU 'relearn' procedure, so it can learn all the parameters of your driving and engine sensors etc I do a full warm up until it reaches normal running temps, the idle will sometimes 'hunt' until the ECU figures out the best idle setting, then just take it for a drive. Include some different driving situations, like uphill, coasting, steady cruising, fast acceleration etc just vary it up a bit, only takes about 20 mins or so and it should all be setup as per your driving style.👍

Yes that cover is a real pain. Mine doesn’t have the original radio, so no code needed, but yes it does apply to many owners. Regarding the ECU reset, I wasn’t aware of that. My car didn’t feel any different to drive when I took it to work in the morning, but thanks for the tip.

Thanks, just changed my battery following this video but i couldnt get the airfilter box out of the way. Found out that its still relatively easy even without removing it.

Thanks. Just changed battery. Had no idea how to remove the front cover till I found your video. It is not as difficult as replacing the pollen filter inside the cabin but it is not exactly a quick 123 job either.

@@R118GSiVVC no chance to do anything on the Focus yet. The BMW is taking all my small spare time and the bad weather has slowed me down massively.

@@GentilsGarage it's hard without a garage too isn't it! I did manage some undersealing recently but, that's about it! Both cars still need the 3rd mount doing.

@@R118GSiVVC yes, it sucks! I coil ou the gazebo up, but the patio at the back of the house has very old tarmac that is crumbling and get a bit muddy when it rains.

I have the same car and I found this video very helpful, thank you. Car started again - left it on idle for about 5 minutes then turned it off. Came back a few hours later and it won’t start. Any resetting I should do?

Thank you very much. That's very strange what happened. Are all the connectors tightened properly? As far as I'm concerned, no reset of programming needed for the MK2 or the mk3

maybe look if alternator doesn't discharge your battery when idle (or anything that uses a power while idle)..

I have the same generation Focus as you have, although mine is a wagon. I bought it in used condition. Recently, I replaced my battery as well, and found that I have an open battery tray. Do you happen to know if there can be a difference in battery trays in the same model Focus? Or am I perhaps missing some cover parts (although I could not really discover any slots or connecting points on my tray)? I would rather have a closed tray actually.

I think they are all similar and that it should be covered. What engine you got?

@@GentilsGarage I have a 1.6 liter, 74kW petrol engine. It might be that the former owner or garage once swapped the battery and didn't put the cover and frontplate back on anymore.

Will a 75Ah battery fit? I see you have some space with this 60Ah. Since I will upgrade my 44(!!! got car used)Ah to a more suitable one, I was wondering if going for the larger one is able to fit. I can't find any official documents stating the max lenght of the space in there.

Honestly, not sure but this 60Ah does the job very well.

Don't you need to reset the BMS? Mine started flashing all dash lights next day. Then engine light stayed. Not sure how to reset ECU or BMS.

@@GentilsGarage interesting 🤔 I changed the valve cover, spark plugs, filters and battery at the same time. Will check codes tomorrow and clear them. Thanks for the quick response
