Scenario: Fiona Pichon and Carolyne Douché
Fiona Pichon and Carolyne Douché are PhDs in archaeology. Their complementary and interdisciplinary approaches have led to a better understanding of the emergence of agriculture in the Near-East, at the Syrian site of Dja'de el-Mughara (excavation: E. Coqueugniot) where they both worked. Fiona Pichon is a use-wear specialist: she studies the use-wear traces on the stone tools of the first near-eastern agricultural societies. Associated with the Archéorient laboratory (UMR 5133), she completed her doctorate at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. During two postdoctoral fellowships at the Milà y Fontanals Institute of the CSIC in Barcelona (Fyssen Foundation) and at the University of Tsukuba in Japan (JSPS), she widened her field of investigation and now works in Jordan, Iran and Kurdistan. Carolyne Douché is an archaeobotanist: she studies plant remains (seeds, fruits, chaff). She prepared her PhD thesis at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (UMR 7041) in collaboration with the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (UMR 7209). Since 2018, she has been working in northern and southern Iraq to define the role of agriculture in the emergence of the first Mesopotamian cities.
