Carey it would be a total soak until the root bed is very thick. Then half a soak.

Actually if you put too much seed in your trays you will get the mold fodder builds up heat while growing so decrease the amount of seed in each tray do not let the seed layer get above 3/8" this will take care of a lot of problems unless you are having high temp/s do not let the system see temps above 85 deg. you will fight mold all the time I've been running wheat for the last 3 years and have seen a lot of different problems but what you get out of this it is worth the trouble I feed cow's and chickens and they are waiting for it every day but you are on the right track I would say have a good one

+carolyn stuckey I never had mold in any of my trays.. and i make it 2" deep.. if you rinse them good they won't mold.. it also depends on how much humidity is in the growing room.. too much humidity and mold will grow..

If they reject the fodder rinse the fodder root mat before feeding it and they will accept it quicker

Have you ever tried using alfalpha? Would it be possible? It seems like it would be a great source of protien added in. Thanks for the information!Beth

+bitzbitz13 No i haven't.. so I couldn't tell you if alfalfa would work.. I don't feed alfalfa so its not something I would plant.but i think if you did it the same way it would grow just the same, may take more then 7 days..

hi there. I am just wanting to clarify about your soaking rinsing... you have mentioned the big tub of water at the bottom. are you re using the same water over repeatedly in your rinsing soaking...or are you getting fresh water each time?
@FancySassy80
@FancySassy80 8 жыл бұрын
I"m using fresh water each time, the water in the tote in the bottom is just a catch basin and it gets dumped once its half full down the drain.. I wouldn't recommend re-using it unless you filter it first, as its very nasty and smells pretty fermented.. and will cause mold growth and etc.

About what temp is your Fodder room. Mine will be going into my heated garage and on cold days it's about 55 degrees. Also the drainage bucket, I assume you don't reuse the water once it's drained? Or do you, seeing it's kept? Or can it just be dumped?

my fodder room right now is cold.. like 40.. it does do best in 50-60 degrees..don't make it too hot, or humid or you will get mold.. and NOOO i don't reuse the water, I dump it. if you putting it in your garage make sure it has light at least 8-10hrs a day.. and make sure the garage has some sort of air circulation.

I have a fan in the garage, that I can turn on. I am having the hardest time finding seed barley. They have two times treated to prevent fungus or non treated so I assume the non treated would be best? It's not too humid in there so that's a plus. I should get at least 8-10 hours of light if not I'll turn the lights on. It's where I keep the show buns and rats too.

you want non treated, uncleaned barley.. look at your local feed store , it may be something they have to special order.. mine orders it for me..I buy it in bulk.. like 5 at a time.. still have 2 left from August.. so it does last..LOL

TSC doesn't have it, Southern States maybe able to order it. :)

if i were to soak the barley, do i need to soak it for 12-24hours?? what type of water do i need to use?? is it a fresh water like rain water/well water or can i use a tap water which contain chlorine in it. which is the best that you would recommend?

When you soak your grains do you put anything in the water like bleech or hydrogenproxide? I keep having a problem with mold
@FancySassy80
@FancySassy80 8 жыл бұрын
+April Emann No i just soak it for 24hrs.. then i rinse it twice until the water is clear before I put it in the trays.. never had any problems with mold. The only time I got mold is when I tried growing it in the green house and the humidity was way too high.

When you water twice a day do you do a total soak or less? What is your watering procedure?
@FancySassy80
@FancySassy80 9 жыл бұрын
Carey Natalie Total soak , but not so much where it won't drain.. when the root mat gets thick and the water doesn't go all the way through.. i soak it twice a day, when its still seed and just getting roots 2-3 up to 4 times a day as needed.. you don't want it to dry out at all.. cause it'll kill the roots

How much fodder are you giving to each horse or does it differ according to what work they do?
@FancySassy80
@FancySassy80 9 жыл бұрын
+Germaine Eyre i gave them each a full tray since they are so heavy, if they needed more I would just make an extra tray for them..

How many times do we need to spray water within a day and from what time to what time ? Hope you can reply me..

S jumat I watered it 3 to 4 times a day when it was first put in to when it starts getting like roots and green.. then i would only water it 2-3 times a day, depending on how fast it would dry out.. the key is not to let it dry out.. or have to so wet it doesn't drain cause that will cause mold..
