For those misinterpreting the lyrics... if you're going to riot, might as well destroy property owned by the corporatocracy. Don't let the police riot corner you and get you to destroy local businesses.

One thing about this song that gets overlooked is how well the words flow while still being totally articulate to the message. Kurt Cobain did this also but he was using random words to fit the song

@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539I love the mention of Kurt Cobain here since he was absolutely influenced by punk and some nirvana records could be considered punk (but in a 90s era). Just saying I appreciate your comment as someone who loves Nirvana and really likes the Dead Kennedys.

seeing the live performances make me wonder why the band just didn't make instrumental albums and recover all the songs sans lyrics. its a cheap move but its so phoney going without Jello so it'd at least say that they're still talented and offer some new insight to the music. East Bay Ray got so busy counting his shekels he could've done the obvious move.
@Maxipanda69 жыл бұрын
This song would fit perfectly into a documentary about the devastating UK riots in 1981. Or a more recent riot closer to home *cough* (Baltamore2015) *cough*. One of my best friends thought that this song supported riots because "well they are punks, and people who start riots are some of the biggest dickwads ever." Honestly that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He generalized that Dead Kennedys supported riots because they are Punks. That is fucking dumb. Fucking Dead Kennedys were pacifist and Anarcho-Socialist. Firstly friend, know your shit before generalizing.
@Maxipanda69 жыл бұрын
Max Seuberlich ALSO, if you listen to the lyrics of the song, you would KNOW that RIOTING IS A HIGH THAT CAN MAKE YOU THINK YOU ARE BRINGING CHANGE, WHEN YOU'RE REALLY DESTROYING THE COMMUNITY.
@theevildrummingsithlord14924 жыл бұрын
@@Maxipanda6 If I remember right, Rancid's "I Wanna Riot" also dealt with the same thing (riots are actually bad).
@eldiablov24 жыл бұрын
@@Maxipanda6 I wouldn't say that either. I remember a video where Jello talked about this song. Originally it was written about the 1980 riots in Miami. The lyrics are telling a story about how people have decided that they have had enough, and there is even a point where they get to "where the real slave drivers live" but that's where the cops are all posted and have their weapons out. Basically, the police are there to make sure that the rioters keep this confined to their own neighborhoods and don't hurt the sensibilities of white people in suburbs. It shows who the police are really there to protect. Basically, the police want them to keep it confined to their own neighborhoods, so that way none of the grievances get addressed and things continue on as usual once it is all over.
@eldiablov24 жыл бұрын
@@theevildrummingsithlord1492 Again, not really. More like telling a story, not really promoting or opposing it. It is a very relevant one though, especially the part where police form a wall between the rioters and "the real slave drivers" and make sure that the riot stays confined to that neighborhood. Basically making sure that the status of those in power continues to be protected, and everybody else is worse off and things continue on as usual.
@theevildrummingsithlord14924 жыл бұрын
@@eldiablov2 I see. Well, that song was relevant then and it is still relevant now. However, when Jello keeps saying ''rioting, the unbeatable high'' , I thought it was some sort of satirical response to riots.
