Singing about the trials and tribulation of coal miners. Most suffered from black lung disease caused by coal dust....and died early from it. Some would die from a mine cave in from being crushed to death. Miserable life, ergo "mining camp blues".

I can relate, grew up in the coal fields north of Birmingham. Miners suffered from black lung disease (mining camp blues), most were poor and uneducated, paid with company money that could only be used at the company store (call a commissary). Dreadful life.

You only need 3 for blues: I, IV and V (aka T, S and D)

Written and recorded by Trixie Smith in 1923, also recorded by Hazel Dickens in 1973, now in the capable hands of the Foghorns. One of those songs that make you wonder why the communist party were regarded as un-American! Nobody else stuck up for the miners.
