What's better then one foldable portable tabletop? Two foldable portable tabletops. This time I focus on the stamp creation and go with a more futuristic, industrial look. Hope you like it!

The canvas looks like it adds some nice texture. I really like the drains too. This would be perfect for an old ship, a factory or anything industrial. Modern or future settings, true versatility. Have fun with your new walls. 😁

Thank you for doing the Sci Fi version, and for demonstrating how to make stamps out of Dollar Tree foam board. I was thinking of different methods for making the stamp, but this seems easier. Also, you blew my mind with using rust colored paint on the edges of poorly stamped areas, to imply the metal panels were completely rusted away. Big brain thinking there.

I'm not playing any sci-fi games, but after seeing that other video you did, I went out and bought a couple of black canvasses for sure! I plan on 3d printing some clips to keep the board together though, so that gives me added flexibility. I usually only lay out combat encounters on tiles, so it's usually limited to a smaller space. But man, that stamping idea tickled something in my mind and I just HAVE to make one for myself!

I’m obviously not the expert here but I’m wondering if there’s any reason why someone couldn’t carve the stamp design directly into the foam block you’re using as the handle? Great video, I love this whole concept. Thank you for sharing.
@brokenterrain
@brokenterrain Жыл бұрын
You could totally carve into the thicker foam. It should work just fine. However the thinner foam is much cheaper and generally easier to acquire. That is only reason I would suggest utilizing the thinner foam. A handle could be made of just about anything.
@seanmcneil1023

So I started looking on the Michaels website, and they have all different sizes canvases. I play warmachine, which is a4x4, so I'm thinking about getting some of the 24"x24" ones. Frostgrave plays on a 2x'2' or 3'x3' depending ghe scenario so some 12x12 or 18"x18" would be perfect for those. This is a really cool idea. Do you know what the difference is between the level 1, level 2, and level 3 canvases are? I'm guessing thickness. Since we're backing them with foam, I don't think thickness matters.
@brokenterrain
@brokenterrain 2 жыл бұрын
Experimenting with different size canvas is a great idea to really make this craft work for any game. I think the quality of construction and materials is what separates the canvas levels. I think you'll want to go as thin as possible while still being sturdy to help keep it easy to store and travel with.

For your rust effect, do you think that pigment powders (pastel/chalk dust) would be easier to work with? Jeremy from black magic craft had a video a while back using crushed/ground pastels as pigment powders for similar effect.
@brokenterrain

I'm thinking powders for classic 3d terrain and paint for this unique canvas application. However you could probably get some really cool effects from the powders on the canvas too. Maybe try a small test piece? 🤔

quick question, you didn't really show it in the prior video, but did you screw in the hinges or say like super glue them? I ask because I'm not familiar with how strong or sturdy the canvas's frame and whether or not that might crack or something
@brokenterrain

I used the hinges pack with screws. It seemed to work well. No splitting or breakage. Time will tell if it holds up from lots of use.

For this one, if you do a second one on the back, I would build three up to the same level as the frame, then leave one shallower. Paint it so it looks like it goes into a bottomless shaft something like this. img.freepik.com/free-photo/3d-illustration-4k-uhd-sci-fi-square-shaped-tunnel_129677-2404.jpg?w=2000. Then build a bridge across, or build a couple (one whole, one broken) that you can put some sort of control panel or something on that the figures have to get to. This could also work with a fantasy one where they have a shootout in the goblin caves. Maybe when leveling the edges, you make it less rectangular.
