We miss old Doc here in Watauga County, NC. He left this world last summer and a great big hole in our hearts. Thank you for these videos, they are a blessing.

Give just recently come to know of Doc Watson! He was so instrumental in developing what is now blue grass music and country music as well! I found him by chance as I was checking out Billy Strings in a hunt from a buddy! It has changed my entire music life and can't really listen to much rlae! I sometimes list to the same set over and over. And it just becomes part of you. This man was so well known and I thought I was pretty well educated as far as country but now I have taken my search to the very beginning and am in awe of his talent, ability to play anything by ear and realize this," you are the music you love and I dont think you choose what music you listen to at all, no, I believe that we are all blessed with a tune or rythem in our DNA, AND WHEN WE FEEL THAT SAME OR FAMILIAR RYTHEM IT TAKES US HOME AND WE ARE IN A SAFE AND honest place where we can be ourselves and finally relax! Peace overtakes us and yes, WE HAVE FOUND OUR WAY! SATISFACTION IN SO MANY WAYS!" UT IS SOOO GOOD TO HAVE FOUND DOC AND THE OTHERS WHO PUT EVERY MOMENT INTO BLESSING OTHERS WITH THE EXPRESSION OF WHAT THEY INDEED LOVE, IT MAKES LOVE ITSELF MORE RECOGNIZABLE AND LIFE THAT MUCH BETTER! IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE DOC IS A LONG LOST FATHER WHO KNOWS BOTH THE GOOD AND BAD OF LIFE AND SAYS YEAH , LISTEN UP YOUNG MAN, PONDER IT, AND YOU TOO WILL KNOW ! MAYBE IT SOUNDS TOO DEEP FIR SOME FOLKS AND MAYBE IT IS, BUT IF YOU WEBT THROUGH LIFE FOR 51 YEARS AND FINALLY HEARD DOC WATSON, YOUR LIFE WOULD CHANGE AS WELL! I TRULY LOVE THIS MUSIC, BECAUSE IT IS THE STORY OF MUSIC AND ITS A GREAT STO TO SHARE WITH SOMEONE YOU LOVE

Since O'Brother, folk music never let me down. The best of America's is certainly the melting pot of all immigrant's and native music.

Doc was doing a rolling picking technique on St. James Hospital with just a thumb and forefinger. I am becoming convinced that he was, in fact, some sort of wizard. The playing on his solo tunes in general is insane.

I've seen Doc twice in concert. His playing blows me away everytime. The first time I saw him in concert was in Lincoln Center in NYC. His son Merle(RIP Merle)played with Doc and a bass player named Michael Coleman. Doc was the opening act for The David Bromberg band. A great concert. The second I saw Doc and Merle in concert was at Rockefellers in Houston. They were the headliners. Midway thru the concert Doc said:"I know there's a line of people to get into the next show but if wanna stay for the next show you're welcome to stay. My brother and I looked at each other and we said at the same time:"We're staying". A night of great memories forever.

1967 at the University of Washington. Doc was a great artist as was Clarence and Fred. I attended Doc's burial at the family church in N.C. I'm so glad for these video recordings to be shown.

Must have been cool to grow up in that environment. Was Doc as genuine in person as he appears to be? Oh by the way I apologize to my Martin occasionally for my crappy playing.It deserves better.Thanks for your response.

Anybody notice the nut on Doc's guitar?What kind of modification is that?Or maybe its broken.Never seen one like it.Not the same without you Doc.
@nickbeier6265

It almost looks like something is woven/jammed just behind the nut. Some players might do this to damp down vibrations on the strings behind the nut. I'd love to know what Doc was up to.
