Today, longtime Club Champion client Chris is in the bay for a refresh on his irons. Ian shows how to update your irons to get the most out of your set and that a fitting session doesn't always mean getting all new equipment.

Chris is the perfect example of how TXG (yes, TXG) has turned a world of 'weekend golfers' into gear-heads and data-geeks 😁 And did anyone else notice that if you don't look at the screen while he was talking, Chris sounds a lot like Ronnie? 🤔

I went to my first fit ever at a local club champion recently. I’ve been watching your channel for a long time now, And while the fit I got was good it was not as detailed as you guys are. Mine was only a driver fit and i definitely left happy. But every time I watch one of these videos I think about how many strokes I’m probably leaving on the course by not going to get a fit from you guys lol.

Having access to this kind of expertise is one of the most appealing things about the club fitting business. It used to be difficult if not impossible to get this kind of advice. There used to be a guy in south west Toronto, a former ASU player who did this stuff. but when he left the business there was nowhere to go. Great video guys.

The best guys on YT. I love these and all the videos you do. I also had an injury last year. Age 56, rotator muscle issue in right shoulder. Could not lift arm and mobility was like 5%, All better and will be as good as I can be with 4 months of PT. Interesting suggestion by therapist who was a D1 college player himself he suggested a lighter and less flex option. So I did not have to work the clubs so much. Shocking that from Modus 105 stiff to Recoil lighter regular shaft my ball striking has jumped to the better. Distance from HMP 919-923 Forged has not changed due to better contact. Not to mention back to forged feel! Could not be happier. Plus, I'm not putting undue stress on my shoulder. Less shock from the graphite shaft. Thanks guys, keep it up!

This video really speaks to me since I had hip surgery. I had a lesson after surgery and was able to move my path more in-to-out. (I wonder if I need my clubs more flat because my draw is a bit bigger). I know this is an equipment check in but honestly Chris should just watch this video and see that he’s leaving like 10 degrees of hip rotation on the table. I saw myself on video and realized I hadn’t been rotating my hips for the last 3-4 years. I instantly added 10 yards by rotating and thus getting better hand depth. Of course this is easier said than done. It looks like maybe he had a left hip which is probably the more important hip that takes more forces in the golf swing. (If you look at pros that have had hip surgery it’s always the left hip-Watson, Nicklaus, etc.)

I’m getting fitted at club champion next week, so far not a good start they double booked me for a fitter that was not available. Luckily my cousin scheduled a full bag fitting at the same time, so we are gonna be able to do a split fitting. And finish our full bag fittings at a later date. Please don’t let me down Roseville store. I booked that appointment a month ago.

Long time subscriber, first time commenter. This has been my favorite series from you guys in a long time. What does guy have to do to have their name thrown into the hat for the 1 in a million chance of getting fit by Ian? I am an above average golfer, but I have never been fit in any clubs. I have always bought off the rack or even off FB marketplace. Getting fit by you guys and knowing you aren’t pushing me towards a brand/product because of an elevated commission would be a dream come true!

I had a fit with a very prestigious company in the UK and it was a disaster, the clubs just weren't right on the golf course. Two revisits to try and rectify but nothing could get the clubs to work for me. I'm a decent player and the rest of my bag was still good so it has to be down to the fit. Wish I could get to Toronto to see you guys, might restore my confidence in the process.

Same. The fitting process is so hit or miss. I haven’t gotten much out of them besides the convenience of trying several models without an agitated shop employee. This channel is the 1% of fitters and while I truly enjoy the content, the real life fitting experience is far from this

Similar experience...I went to a new club fitting specialist that opened in south of England great fit....Or thought it was a great fit....but the build was awful...not close to the spec ordered It was sorted out but you loose faith quickly I was going to go to the oldest and most well known fitters in the south for an iron fit....but I'm really wondering if it's worth it....

Me personally I have only been fit twice in 16 years of playing. The first time was for a driver shaft in 2019 when i was 15 years old. I was in a t1100 even flow white 65x (favorite shaft ever), got fit into the even flow t1100 white 75x, and I preferred the 65 over the 75 on the course because I was walking all my golf, and the 75 became a bit to heavy. I did test a bunch of different head shaft combos on my own, because I had a friend that worked at club champion, so I got dialed in on my own for everything else. Second fitting was this year at pxg indianapolis, and I have to say other than the fact that they kept giving me right handed clubs (im left handed) it was a good fit. The black ops driver with the ventus black 6x was amazing. I ended up not buying it because my tsi3 was only 6 yards shorter carry but great experiance. I got fit full bag at pxg and the one thing I wasn’t satisfied with was the iron and wood fitting other than driver. I told my fitter off jump I have been playing heavier shafts my whole life, and anything under 115g iron shafts I lost all feel for the club face. He tried to put me in modus 105x and the results were okay, but I wasn’t comfortable and he was so sure he was right that he didn’t want to try my gamer in their heads. I game the px lz 6.5. I swing it 116-118 with driver and 94 with 7 iron so I didn’t understand the logic of weaker x flex shafts and he didn’t explain it to me.

What are your guys thoughts on messing with peoples clubs who are going through swing changes? I am working on some fundamentals and mentally messing with lofts and lies when my swing is changing doesn’t seem like a good idea… I want to trust my equipment and not worry that after I hit proper positions my clubs won’t be fit for me any longer.

Changing out 1 shaft to soft step ??? Great idea 🤔
@sleepy_bp
@sleepy_bp 2 ай бұрын
The purpose of switching shafts in this scenario isn't soft stepping. It's to make each iron a 1/2" longer; effectively make the club more upright. This helped improve contact and dynamic lie angle. Soft stepping is the result of this and it will have limited effect on performance while saving the client money. I think it's a great idea.
@grimwalrus9410
@grimwalrus9410 2 ай бұрын
Not actually as good of an idea as is being proposed here given they’re adding an extra 1/2 of length. The 1/3 flex comment is inaccurate when taking into consideration the added length. Going to soften things up a good bit.
@sleepy_bp
@sleepy_bp 2 ай бұрын
Great point with regards to the added length softening the shaft. This "may" not be a negative as it could increase spin and descent angle which would be a benefit in this case. It's also a lot easier on the client's wallet compared to a full new set of shafts.

I went to club champion this week. It makes no sense to me that they only fit irons with a 6 iron? Is this normal for all club champions? I've never heard of this and it threw me off, especially given I rarely use my 6.
@bobturkovich399
@bobturkovich399 2 ай бұрын
I asked my local CC it’s because at 6 iron is when people really start to see variation due to clubs, where strike gets inconsistent and things like lie angle, etc start to show up. Most peoples favorite club is usually a 7 or shorter, and the point is to make your misses better, so you should work with clubs you hit the worst.

I like watching your videos but your company is a bunch of scammers. My buddy is a 35 handicap and went to a new Club Champion store that just opened. They fit him into Mizuno 923’s , ok fine, the proceeded to fit him into KBS Tour shafts (stock option by the way). Total price $2500 🤮 I got fit by my local fitter for the exact same clubs $950. Maybe they put him into some new 1500$ grips to be fair. 🙄

Sorry to say this but lesson would not be a bad idea. Ofc you can go longer shaft and super upright lie, but it's like a pill for your headache with left startline as a side effect. In time it will mess up his aim and cause more unwanted issues. The best thing for your client would be getting rid of that steep plane.
