Lying is one of the hardest things to defend especially when it is so easily revealed. Brains are important but they cannot be used to support crime, and there has been too much of that going on by multiple factions of the government and the media. When did the "NEWS" become what I think instead of what is actually happening just because you are sitting in front of a camera? Nixon would have loved the media in place today. They work for no actual story based on facts, and he may have never had to resign.
