In this tutorial you will see how to make an easy fondant crown cake topper. Make this crown with fondant and tylose powder or gum paste! This beautiful princess tiara can be used as a cake topper on your princess themed cakes or, make a smaller one for cupcake toppers.
Products Used:
Satin Ice Gumpaste
Cornstarch
Wilton Tylose Powder
Small Rolling Pin
Sharp Blade (or exacto knife)
Ruler
Round Container
Wilton Pastry Cutter
Paint Brush
Ateco Round Tip # 805
Edible Art Paint- Metallic Rose Gold
Tips:
- Use Tylose powder for a sturdier crown (also helps dry faster)
- Add cornstarch to the container to prevent fondant from sticking
- Use a ruler for straighter lines
- Make an indent 2/3 from the bottom to get the triangles the same size
- To make sure all the triangles are the same size, use the previous triangle cut, as a stencil to cut out the next one
- When rolling out the balls for the points of the crown, roll out a thick piece of fondant that is even on top and use either a round tip or a round cutter and roll that out in a ball. This will ensure they're all the same size!
- If you will add a metallic colour like i did, use the same colour fondant for the details instead of white, this will make the edges that aren't painted not as noticeable
- Finish the crown by steaming it once its dry either on its own or when it's on your finished cake
