In this tutorial you will see how to make an easy fondant crown cake topper. Make this crown with fondant and tylose powder or gum paste! This beautiful princess tiara can be used as a cake topper on your princess themed cakes or, make a smaller one for cupcake toppers.
Products Used:
Satin Ice Gumpaste
Cornstarch
Wilton Tylose Powder
Small Rolling Pin
Sharp Blade (or exacto knife)
Ruler
Round Container
Wilton Pastry Cutter
Paint Brush
Ateco Round Tip # 805
Edible Art Paint- Metallic Rose Gold
Tips:
- Use Tylose powder for a sturdier crown (also helps dry faster)
- Add cornstarch to the container to prevent fondant from sticking
- Use a ruler for straighter lines
- Make an indent 2/3 from the bottom to get the triangles the same size
- To make sure all the triangles are the same size, use the previous triangle cut, as a stencil to cut out the next one
- When rolling out the balls for the points of the crown, roll out a thick piece of fondant that is even on top and use either a round tip or a round cutter and roll that out in a ball. This will ensure they're all the same size!
- If you will add a metallic colour like i did, use the same colour fondant for the details instead of white, this will make the edges that aren't painted not as noticeable
- Finish the crown by steaming it once its dry either on its own or when it's on your finished cake

Gorgeous, I want to make a crown for my sons cake .😁 can I ask do you use water to stick the gumpaste or edible glue? Where did you purchase your mould for beading too please? Thankyou so much for sharing 😁😁😁

Thank you! I do use water to stick gum paste/fondant i find it works best! edible glue can also be used however it sometimes peaks out and doesn't give it a clean look. When you're finished your topper preferably the next day or day after give it a quick steam with water that way it will look very clean and shiny!! The pearl mold i use is wilton brand which can be purchased at a bunch of places. I bought mine from Michael's however, I have seen them at bulk barn and baking supply stores! All the best with your topper and hope it turns out well :) don't forget to tag me in your final creations to be featured on my insta!!

I’m going to attempt to make a princess crown for my daughters cake. From what I’ve seen you just add 1-2 teaspoons of tylose powder to a pound of fondant? What is the cornstarch used for? Is it just to dust a little so it doesn’t stick when rolling out?

The spoon I use is a 1/3 teaspoon. I added a couple of those so 2/3 teaspoons. To about a handful of gumpaste. I personally prefer to work with gumpaste for toppers as I find it’s more sturdy. However you definitely can use fondant!(I would add more powder to fondant though) Try not to add too much tylose powder as it can make the gumpaste/fondant very difficult to work with. I would also recommend to work as quickly as possible. After rolling out the fondant try to quickly cut it out and stand it up. The faster you work the less likely it is to crack! For the cornstarch, I just use it so it doesn’t stick to the rolling pin or the counter top. Hope that helps!! Don’t forget to tag me in your creations on Instagram to be featured on my page! ☺️
