For those with shellfish allergy, any crustacean or mollusk can be very dangerous. To avoid allergic reactions to shellfish, avoid shellfish and shellfish products altogether. The majority of the shellfish allergies are due to crustaceans, like shrimp.
Shellfish allergy may not necessarily mean you are allergic to finned fish, but in restaurants, be careful of cross-contact contamination.

For me it is very straight forward. If I eat any of these I throw up immediately. Usually with some blood! Like within a minute. And I'll have an upset tummy for a few days.

My allergies to shrimp are so bad that one time my cousin had shrimp and rice but he picked all the shrimp out the rice and I ate the rice and my throat started closing and I broke out in hives I didn’t know I was allergic to shrimp but I’ve never tried it up into that point

I am crustacean allergic. And although 1 or 2 bites might be bearable, but if I let go myself the my throat get swollen and I vomit. Best remedy to such is drink lots of cold water if medicine is not around. It worked for me once. Never tried shellfish again.

My Friend has a seafood street stall. When i came by to see him how he is doing. He cooked me a whole giant of seafood not knowing that i am allergic to shrimp & crabs. Can't refuse out of respect & being ungrateful. I choose to eat it. 40 minutes later, my entire body got swollen. My eyes, ears and throat got itchy so bad. I threw up all of 'em & some blood. Next thing I know, i woke up in a hospital. Really crazy what allergy can do to some of us.

I have the same allergy , it is deadly . You should pay attention when ordering something from a restaurant. Also , you should always have epinephrine injection with you when are travelling alone or abroad.

AND remember to let the restaurant know your allergies before you are sat at your table. The restaurant doesn’t know you, they don’t have your medical history or any kind of data, so it’s both the restaurant and your responsibility to let others know about your food allergies. If you’re not sure what you can eat, please request a chef consult, they are there for a reason.

Last week i had shrimp and pasta and felt very sick for 20 minutes about half an hour after eating. This week, I ate breaded shrimp and felt temporarily sick after a little while. I wonder if I this is a sign?

At age 18 discovered I was allergic to shellfish after eating egg fuyung. My eyes swelled close and I had hives. The nurse said that the dish must have been made with shrimp or near shrimp. Years later my eyes were completely swollen shut after a medical procedure that required drinking a dye. The radiologist told me that i should always let the medical personnel know that I was allergic to IODINE which he said was the reason I was allergic to shrimp. I must also check that none of my medication used shells as a stabilizer.

My (israeli) friend almost died the second time he ate seafood! First time he ate shrimp in his lif he had no problems. Then a few weeks later he ate more seafood and his face just started swelling

Whenever I eat shellfish or even eat something a shellfish touched I get sick, the back of my throat and my throat itch like crazy, and my stomach feels heavy as if I ate straight up rotten eggs, I get extremely nauseous and dizzy. My doctor literally told me in an extreme case I could even "croak" because of it. I'm not about to risk my life for shrimp XDDD, my only problem is that I love sushi and usually some of the fish might accidentally touch shrimp or crab when they are preparing it so im going to have to make a hard choice :(

I can eat shrimp and prawns. I’m so far only allergic to cray fish and crab. I had swelling and hives with cray fish and horrible stomach cramps and slight mouth tingling with the crab.

That can change. Shrimp is the only thing that’s ever bothered me till the other night, crab caused an allergic reaction. I ate crab Tuesday night without an issue and Thursday, it made me itchy and swollen. Allergies develo so you never really know

hey mine was just swollen lips not really swollen , i used to eat seafoods even before and now gosh i don't know what happen that suddenly i have an allergy , this time i was suffering to allergy, this is the 3 time i experience swollen lips, 2 times from shrimp and 1 time for crabs, so far today i have a bigger swollen lips than before. and for the record i ate crabs at lunch and mantis shrimp in dinner and my allergy just came out of nowhere, and also not all the times that i ate seafoods its react, and that sucks

I'm not a big nonveg typa person but once I ate shrimps (it was my first time trying it) and as soon as I ate it I felt a weird sensation in my throat and my lower right lip swelled up I didn't know what to do coz I was on my vacation and not at home luckily my doc gave me meds and it saved me

So Friday I ate a Sea Food salad it had Shrimp, Crab, Octopus and Conch and later I end up with Diarrhea for like 2 days It was my first time eating Conch and I didn't even knew what it was so I think I had a allergic reaction to it but Idk.

wow so you're experiencing swallowing problem mine is swollen lips (not really swollen but i can say that it was bigger than before now im afraid to eat shrimps), and this is the third time i experience it , my allergy was out of sudden, sometimes i have sometimes not, and also before i don't have it and gosh it was suck

@@idcleave7566 after I wrote this comment I also saw that my lips where swollen up but I didn't think much of it but guess it's one of the reactions but it didn't last for long meanwhile my throat was sore for 2 days. it was my first time eating it eventho i knew I was allergic to it since I did the pricktest 3 years ago but just wanted to know how I would react to it so tried it hhaahah

Anyone who got hives from shellfish, how long did the hives last? I’m on day 4 and I’ve been on prednisone and Benadryl for the last 3 days but still getting hives randomly.

Just found out that I have a shellfish allergy i was getting the rashes but I thought it was just heat rash . As they began to spread all over my body I went to the doctor and found out about it now I am on prednisone and cetirizine waiting to see how fast these hives can stop coming up

I think I have an allergy because I always feel tingling in my mouth and have digestive problem or stomache after eating shrimp and crab, and if I eat alot of it ,I can have breathing problem . But shellfish tastes so good and I keep eating them even though I know the risk 😅😭

Going out for an expensive dinner everyone gets shrimp and lobster while I’m over here still getting a burger or steak 😒 and don’t forget the seafood parties in the summer I can’t eat but it looks sooo good😞😩

My dad was a diver. We grew up eating lobster and abalone which I love. I hadn't eaten any shellfish for several years maybe 20 yrs. One day when my daughter was little we were at the grocery and they had this gorgeous crab on sale. Took some home and cooked them up. We ate lots with melted butter. About an hour later my throat was swelling up. Hubby called poison hotline here in San Diego and told me to drink a quart of milk. They said it would remove the toxin from my system. It worked. The only thing I really miss is the abalone but it's so expensive now no big loss. Thankfully not allergic to salmon. I could eat it every day. Edit: doc said bc I ate a lot as a kid and didn't for several years I developed an allergy to it. Said I could be allergic to chemical in all shellfish or just crab. Would have to be tested. Haven't eaten shellfish since. Too dangerous.

i’ve eaten crab/lobster once when i went to the beach but I don’t know if I had a reaction, though I was sick for the next day or so BUT I had IV dye inserted while at the ER for my CT scan and broke out in hives and they said i’m allergic to shellfish that was in the IV dye.... should I go to the doctor to make sure?

I'd go to an Immunologist and have a test done. A simple skin prick test can tell if you have an allergy. They can also tell you what else you may be allergic to as well, just know that the test isn't always perfectly accurate.

Mollusks, I can eat a lot... but crustaceans, the last time I ate, crispy crablets, I got hives, got dizzy and had a hard time breathing. Damn, now I feel I'm missing out on some of the best tasting seafood! 😢

Hi I suspect that I have an allergy right now and it has been 4 days. My lips are tingling and have super itchy rashes on my whole legs and arms. I went to see a doctor and was prescribed steroid cream and medicine for the itch. When should I worry and see another doctor immediately if it continues to persist since it has been 4 days?

I'm perfectly fine with shrimp, crab and lobster, eat them all the time. But the typical frozen muscles will give me a really hard-core reaction for several hours. To the point where everyone around me thinks I should see the doctor. Funny thing is, it wasn't like that until recently.

All this is based upon reasonable principles, thanks. Not needing to cope with hideous hives/urtacaria, and enjoying healthy, balanced and clean skin just feels great. In case you aren't reluctant of something different I agree that Shane Zormander’s website is an example that actually works.

I have reaction to cray fish and crabs I had swelling my mom said it wasn't the cray fish but know the swelling only happens when I eat cray fish, thanks to this video she believes me now. And stop putting cray fish in my food.

If touched you can literally start feeling itchiness around your hands or fingers within minutes or hours after..

I never had any allergic reaction to any kind of food. I had a bad crab one time and nearly choked to death because of all that swelling. I can’t eat shrimps, crabs anymore. I didn’t have any allergies prior to that. It pisses me off cause I really like shell fishes.

Unfortunately, the edible-insect revolution is not very welcoming for the many affected by a shellfish allergy. Upon consumption of crickets, mealworms or other insects, individuals with shellfish allergies have a good chance of having an allergic reaction
