Showing what we got at the new food bank this month. Lots of protein and very little dry goods. Super happy and glad to have it. It was a tight month and we had lot of unexpected expenses. Our local monthly bank was canceled due to a snow and ice storm and the other local one was closed on the days I could go. So glad I could make it into the city to get this.
Follow for more food bank videos and frugal living content. We live a very modest lifestyle and have to get real creative.

I am in Canada.Most are for low income folks.When I used to go you had to show care cards for the members in your family.There wasnt a lot of fresh veggies or fruit back then but we were grateful for anything we received. I have heard that now there is an abundance of fresh fruit and veggies from grocery stores.Some let you pick stuff as you walk by.

I'm in Canada as well. We've been lucky enough not to need Food Bank assistance very often, but my husband and I had to call them once when we lived in the country. It was the middle of winter, our truck had broken down, we had no money, and I was pregnant. We were down to some stale buns and a partial bag of frozen corn. The Food Bank in the nearest town delivered (!!) us a couple of big boxes of food, including homemade jam and a couple of whole chickens. We live in a different province now, but we still support our local Food Bank regularly.

In California each and every food bank is different. We have some that are just for residents of a specific area where you have a shopping cart and you go in and choose what you want... you get a certain amount of each item from shelf staple items to produce to meat to dairy products, etc. there are some pantries that are available to any California resident, most are like that. Some pantries are drive thru pantries (pre boxed of course) while others you wait in line for. There are once a month pantries, weekly pantries, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (insert day of the week pantry), and every other week pantries. Pantries have a ton of food and help many. The food is usually really good too.

Thank you for these videos I'm in Wisconsin I haven't used the food bank in 14 years I figured the poorest of the poor should get help first salvation army only helps people once a month so if you don't have food the rest of the month you're out of luck the elderly should be first to get help there should be a local food stamp program they match the state with the federal you get $50 a month the state gives you $50 Wisconsin where I live it's once a month for help at the salvation army
@rachaeloregon38
@rachaeloregon38 5 ай бұрын
That is really common. I tend to go at the end of the month if I need it. I often get a call if they have alot and things will get thrown away. It's a small town and they know me. There can be a lot of waste if people don't use it.

There is a program called Ruby's Pantry in Wisconsin and maybe other states, too. A lot of towns put on the food Pantry once a month, and you can go to another town's monthly Pantry day if you want. The cost is $20 a share, and I think you can buy 2 shares per visit. This looks like a similar setup. Just Google Ruby's Pantry to see if there's one in your area. It's not free, but you get a good amount of food for $20. They're always looking for volunteers!

There is a foodbank called Ruby's Pantry that anyone can go to (not income based). It costs $20 per share and you can a lot. This food is near expiration and is donated from businesses that would normally dispose of it into a dumpster. Google Ruby's Pantry to find one in your area.

I would love to go back to work. I should make a video about what we do and why we are living like this. In short, we quit our corporate jobs to take on a small country church. We are very active in the community, and I have won the community over 60k in grants over the last 2 years and saved the food bank 50k. I'm not sitting around leaching. I can see the concern tho. I promise, I am not a mooch. 😉

This sounds similar to Ruby's Pantry. Anyone can go regardless of income. You pay $20 per share, and most of the food is close to or expired. Businesses donate the food instead of throwing it in the dumpster. Just Google Ruby's Pantry to see if there's one in your area. They're also looking for volunteers.

I was alliwed to walk around & pick what I wanted, altho soe things were Limited Asked one if them about the Income requirements & was told there wasn't any. I asked if tgat meant someone like B.Gates could go in & take whatever they wanted....I was told "Yes, he coud"!!! That's seriously WRONG on all levels!! People like him should be Donating, not taking!!!

I have volunteered in soup kitchens, food banks and food drives (none were government). These organizations and the people working or volunteering operate on the idea “if you think you need help, we help Period.” If Bill Gates (or you) walk through the door requesting help, they provide help. Many people were ashamed to get help, the idea is to make it easier for people in need to get aid. These organizations do not consider anyone “undeserving” of their assistance. Volunteers are upset by people trying to categorize any of their clients as “undeserving”

I both need to use a food pantry and I also volunteer. I do not think people are bragging. They are very very very grateful for the help. We are all a community. Sometimes you are in a position to give. Sometimes you need help. I am glad tubers are taking the sting of negative judgements out of getting needed help and being happily and openly grateful. This tuber video clearly states how much she needed the food and how grateful she is. She is not bragging at all. God bless.

This speaks to the amount of food that may go to waste if not donated to those in need. I do use a food bank in the VERY small town I live in....it provides just the basics....canned goods, dry goods like rice and beans and two lbs of meat every two weeks. And I need it. I'm a senior citizen with an income of $1132 monthly. I qualify for $23 in SNAP benefits monthly...so minimal but I think it's because I have a 6 year old car that actually runs. Anyway....what's my point? Yeah, I wonder why people do this but if it helps folks who really need to know help is out there I guess it's okay.

@dharma6481
@dharma6481 5 ай бұрын
Food banks don’t judge. No one knows the situation better than the person seeking help. It doesn’t matter what clothes they wear, what car they drive, where they live or how much money they earn. Only the individual seeking help knows the situation and knows that they need help. Everyone gets help when THEY feel that they need help. Food banks and the workers/volunteers do not want any of their clients to think they are “undeserving”. There is no shame in seeking help. There is shame in trying to police who is deserving vs undeserving. There is shame in being too proud to seek help and thus letting your children go hungry and worry about their next meal and the bare shelves. Please seek help if you are struggling- or about to be struggling. If you lose your job or are about to lose your job get food bank immediately! You can shift your regular grocery money to pay rent or car or medical bills. This will delay you and your family going homeless. This is why people donate their time and money to these organizations- to help during hard times.

Hello again! Honestly, I have never seen anything like this. It's run through a church and I have no idea how or why, but they said this is pretty typical for a family of 6. My local bank just got a grant for proteins but lost their bread connection. I kinda want to do a video on several locations because they are so different and their resources differ as well.

@@lauraIngleswilder74The majority of this food 99.9% is not coming from anyone’s financial donations it’s donated close or at exertion date from stores. Several years ago most states passed a law that requires stores to donate their product if in edible condition rather then throw it away. Your lack of donations won’t matter, the food that once was trashed is now going into the hands of people who are happy to eat it.

@@caitlinross8601 will I feel it matters because I now give to people I know are in need and I can give them things they will eat. I am not saying this women is doing wrong at all but if you look on KZfaq you will see many who are abusing it. I worked retail in a big box store for years and people would actually try to bring things back they got at the food bank. Items donated to food banks from the store I worked for are marked a certain way so we knew when they tried to return it to the store. I even had things thrown at me because I would not take them back. So I guess I have a bitter taste over it. I realize there are folks who need it and are trying there best but I also know there are many who abuse it and that is very sad.

Yes, this bank seemed to be mostly "on the verge" store donates. I live in a small town and the little food bank gets most of its food from the Oregon food bank and its mostly dry goods. It's 2 hours round trip to the city to get store donates se we don't get a lot of meat, bread and produce. I am grateful for whatever and make do.
