Testing the new Foodsaver FS1110 handheld vacuum sealer and comparing it to my old FS FreshSaver (FSFRSH0051-000 111) handheld vacuum sealer.
FYI - since filming this video, Foodsaver is no longer producing the white handheld, so the price has increased dramatically to find it.

Thank you for this. I have a new foodsaver (VS3180). I've been trying to figure out how to use the handheld attachment that is linked to the machine. There are lots of videos on how to use it, but none that show how to use it with the jar sealer. I even saw one video that said you can NOT use it with the jar sealer. I bought the jar sealer anyway, and now I'll be able to use it. Thank you for all you do!!

Thank you so much. I bought the newer model a year ago and could never figure this out. I bought it for sealing jars and it never seemed to fit right. I guess I may have been doing it right, just figured it had to be in that hole tightly. I just went and tried it again it worked perfectly. Thank you!

Thanks for this demonstration Darcy. Especially the trick with inverted lid trick and ring removal on handheld sealer. I’m a blind individual who couldn’t figure that out. Limited space in kitchen and a pain to pull out my large sealer for quick jobs, the handheld will be great for dry food in bags and jars.

I had just posted my question of needing help with my regular mouth jar sealer. By the way you can once again order it on Amazon and I just received mine!!!!I just figured out why I was having such difficulty using the regular jar sealer! Maybe this will help other Canadian viewers . I found out only the Bernardin mason jars work (Canada doesn't carry Ball or Kerr)! I was trying it on the Golden Harvest mason jars and it was impossible to get a a vacuum seal! I was beginning to think my jar sealer was faulty. Hope this might help other Canadians! Thank Darcy for your youtube channel, I love it and it has been an inspiration to me!!! I bought my first dehydrator a month ago and because of your encouragement I didn't give up even if I had some setbacks. I have tried dehydrating things I never had thought of dehydrating because of your amazing teaching videos!! Keep them coming!

Thank you for this video. I was sooo confused due to the directions, thought had to use the little clear hose! Love your videos! You really inspired me to get into dehydrating. I purchased the COSORI Food Dehydrator and followed your instructions from a different video on prepping the machine from the factory and have my first batch of dehydrating going on right now. Basil here we come. Baby steps....tomorrow peppers!!

Dee - these smaller handheld units only work with the specialized bags (with the vacuum port in it), not the regular vacuum seal bags that require the full sized machine.

Thank you for doing the review. I had no idea the handheld vaccume sealer would work with the widemouth and regular jar sealer. I just bought it to seal the foodsaver vacume zipper bags. It turns out that my old foodsaver 550 will not vacume seal my Mason jars with this jar sealer I just bought. It wont seal the wide mouth or the regular jars. It just won't create a vaccume so I am happy to know I can still use the handheld vaccume sealer. I am also glad you mentioned regular jars have a problem in the jar sealer. And thanks for offering a solution. I would never have thought to add another lid like you demonstrated before sealing.

Did you say the newer one has something where you can remove the air from a bottle of wine if resealing? I thought you mentioned something when you took the cap off of it. Or not.

I had seen videos about the handheld manual pumps that can be purchased for cars that uses the tube to extract the air . I had seen other videos with electronic pumps from other manufacturers. Hi, thank you for introducing me to the FreshSaver, the chargeable white unit. I picked it because I felt it might be stronger suction. I got it and I think it is a revolutionary product! I bought the special bags. What I do is put my food in a cheap plastic bag, unzipped, just to keep the outer bag clean and reusable. Then I press button and watch it shrink! The food freezes amazing and takes up less space! It is my favorite gadget! I only charge it once a month and I’m good to go! Works on muffins and put in refrigerator and it expands once you open the bag. Now it’s time to expand uses: keep nuts fresh, cookies, herbs, etc. I still am thinking of getting the canning lids. Thank you for introducing me to one of the best inventions ever in freshness technology!

Great, informative video. I don't have either of those handhelds but I almost always have trouble with both standard and wide mouth jars sealing with my big foodsaver and the sealing attachments. I love the inverted lid tip and can't wait to try it, thank you!

I like using mason jars the most but hated pulling out the big one to seal/reseal jars. Thanks for showing how to use the handheld one for jars!! This will work so well for day to day use.

Thank You Great video! Had the white one years ago and had a large food saver also. Now that it's just me, I bought the newer small model and love it.. I buy the larger bags of veggies to save money and buy 1-3 months worth of meats, for individual servings of meats etc.Washed and reused my bags several times No more frost on my veggies. 24.95 at Walmart 11/2020. The Black one.

Last year with the canning jar and lid shortage I moved my dry items to spaghetti sauce jars using their original lids. I wanted to buy a Pump-N-Seal but they were sold out. I bought the Pump-N-Seal tabs and used my handheld vacuum sealer with them and it worked great. I bought the hand held vacuum sealer about 6 years ago because I had an older Foodsaver without the vacuum port.

I really appreciate your tip on removing the clear part of the hand sealer before using it in jar lid attachment. I bought a new Food saver with a built in hand attachment, and couldn't figure it out. No instructions were included. Now I can use my mason jars for pantry storage.

I’m glad I ran across this video. I have a new food saver with the vacuum thing on it. I was vacuum sealing my jars without taking the green cap off. It worked on most but not all. I got frustrated and just pulled out my old food saver. I didn’t realize the green cap came off. I guess I should have read my directions 😊.

thanks so much. I had seen a video on sealing the jars and finally bought a set. I had the handheld and knew I wouldn't be buying the bags, but thought it would work with the lids. Alas, a tube came with the lids that would attach to the lids but wouldn't attach to the hand held as the orifice was the same size. I was stumped thinking I had to use the hose. Wahoo your video got rid to that misconception. Frustrated, I had begun looking for a regular food saver machine that would attach to the hose or something to splice them together. I did find a VS1250 I think it was that had an accessory hole that would connect and was doing reviews to see if that was the best one to get as it was removed from the target shelves just after I found I could connect the two. I had sent an email and phone call to food saver and never got an answer, then spent time reading reviews of sealers to see what I should get. Problems were noted. I was ready to get a brake sealer. This is great! I can use my little sealer and JUST LEAVe the tubing supplied off! Thanks so much

I got my set for about $45 in 2014 and now they're like $100 :o

In your group, love it! I wish I’d seen this video before getting my brake bleeder. In the amazon listing for the little black vacuum sealer, a few people said it doesn’t work with the jar lid sealers, only the bags. At this point not worth it to me to return the brake bleeder. But that is truly a workout!

That's why you always take Amazon ratings with a grain of salt. Many times, it's simply because they don't know how to use the product and assume it's bad. A tip I learned not long ago, rest the brake bleeder handle on the counter, and use your body eight to help leverage down instead of just your grip. Still not ideal, but it does help.

I was in one of my local stores a few months ago and ran across the little black pump you have there. Except the store was discontinuing them and had them on sale for 12 bucks. How cool I thought and bought the last two they had. So my vote goes for the cheapo black ones I bought as the best ever handheld pump. hahaha

I'd use wine bottles to do that rather than just mason jars unless you're going to use something to protect the liquid from going into the machine. There are wine bottle caps made specifically for this unit.

I have the older one but I also have the docking station for it so it sits on my counter fully charged ready to go at all times. I don’t know if the docking station was only available for a short time but I purchased mine with the docking station all as one package. I like the idea of the smaller size of the newer one, but frankly my kitchen is white, so the white one sitting on my counter fits in better LOL. I do have the big game saver platinum which does have the cord but it’s a pain to drag out to seal a jar. So I just love having this on my counter ready to go. Great vid Darcy!

Mine didn't come with a docking station - so that's interesting. Neither of mine will sit on the counter- I keep a basket of tools in my dehydrating cabinet and just leave them there until I need them. But I will eventually get rid of the white one, I'm fairly certain. The new one is just quieter, though it feels as if isn't as powerful. But it competed with no problem!

Thank you! This helps a lot! I have been going back & forth over getting a handheld or a manual pump version! Each have their good points & bad. I will probably get the manual pump in case of power outage....but not the handheld. I think getting a FoodSaver machine down the road would be better for me. If I decide to make wine or vinegars...might get the handheld for sealing those bottles. Thx again!

I purchased the black hand held vacuum sealer thanks to you. One thing that I do after I've allowed the high pitch sound, is take it out and put it right back in and vacuum one more time. It makes this slight twangy pop sound to let me know for sure the can is vacuum sealed. I'd like to find a way to vacuum seal any bag using it and even find a way to seal any jar with it.

A chamber sealer would be needed to vacuum seal jars that the jar sealer attachments don't fit, but the handheld isn't powerful enough to do those. I've seen some hack lids by punching holes in them, sealing and using something to cover the hole - you might find something like that on YT.

I've had the newer version going on 3 yrs now. I use it at least 3 - 10 times a day and it still keeps the charge and works great. So much so that I bought an extra for when supply chain shortages from China go through the roof. I've never had it run out of juice and it sits on my counter 24/7 plugged in. So using it for large projects is fine if it has a full charge. There is absolutely no need for a larger machine if you are only doing canning jars. I wish it was USB charged so I would not have to rely on power from an electrical outlet and could charge it with a USB battery bank. I don't use it with the $pecial foodsaver bags but the green rubber footer came off of mine anyway (broke off even though I don't use it). The sealer still makes contact with the docking station even though this no longer is on the bottom of the cap. I also use the sealer with zipperless freezer bags. I place the bottom of the vacuum sealer at the top of the opening of the bag, squeeze tight with my hand around where the bag is gathered and after sucking all the air out, I give the bag a few twists and add a twist tie. It works well with practice and the vacuum is every bit as good as the large machines (sometimes better). I place that bag in a second bag and seal that as well to prevent the inner bag from piercing when I move stuff around in my freezer. For a third to a quarter of the price of a larger machine, this was well worth the $40 and gets used multiple times every day - not only with our food but also my parrot's food (I repackage all of his food into sterilized mason jars once I open a bag). Don't waste your time on a larger foodsaver machine with a 2 yr lifespan. Get this device and use mason jars (you can even freeze liquid in mason jars if you avoid temperature extremes and allow headspace for expansion when it freezes). This device and the overpriced mason jar attachments are the only items foodsaver makes that I use and I have yet to find a reason to upscale to anything more advanced. It covers all of my prepping/vacuum sealing needs. I will be purchasing a brake bleeder pump however, before China stops shipping those over as well.

I was getting frustrated with my original one because it wasn’t working well. I bought the new one and I think I’m going to like it. I like that the charging doc seems more convenient. And I’ve already used the accessory port with a couple of my old foodsaver containers.

Thank you for the information on the pitch change to know when it's done. I bought the newer model about 4 days ago & just started using it today. Well, after using & seeing the air being sucked out, thought I was done.... Nope, wrong. Air started coming back into the bags a short time later & I was thinking 'O.k., what I'd do wrong?'. I checked the zipper part & making sure nothing was around the vacuum hole to clog it up. Everything looked good, so I came to the internet, & KZfaq, & found your video. Will try doing it again after the vacuum's charged some more :)

I have found that you REALLY have to make sure that zipper is closed all the way across. I don't plan on using the zipper back fr anything more than block cheese for the fridge.

One note of caution.... Even a pin hole will make a plastic bag useless. Be extra careful when handling anything frozen in plastic bags. Easy to puncture a bag when the plastic and contents are frozen, through abrasion or shatterng. It's also possible that the bag had a factory defect. Since it's been a month, since you posted, did you get it to work after you finished re-charging? Quite possible that you didn't pull out enough air for the vacuum seal to actually happen.

i have the new one works great. I found that with the food saver tubs dont seem to stay air tight. I store rice in them. I was hoping you may have tryed the tubs. Was not sure if i was missing something as maybe made for short term just not doing right .It is self expiatory Thank you Dawn

Thank you! Twenty reviews later you are the ONLY one who mentioned charge time. 12-24 hours is a long time to charge! This is my first attempted use after having one for quite a while and it was not on the charger thanks to my housemate who insisted I leave it off. Why I cannot fathom, but it was dead and I kept checking, still dead. The green light is constantly lit, not throbbing dim/bright. The literature is somewhere around here for this and I didn't want to hunt for it. Does the green light go off when it's done or how would I know when it's finished charging? Thanks so much for your review and this information. At least I have an idea of what I'm up against, a long wait before I can vacuum seal my additional uncooked family pack of chicken thighs - and now to focus on cooking food instead.

I have a hand pump for my rubber wine resealer corks. It works great on the Foodsaver ziplock bags. Tried it on a whim after getting a box of bags at Goodwill. Works great. (I'm a wee bit cheap.) Got the caps to go with my big machine, but haven't used them yet.

I use mine with the cap on it takes a little longer but you can here the Little Seal inside the jar lid pop take it off it has suction and can hold it up with fingers and it seals well
