Buffalo Wild Wings has been selling boneless chicken wings for YEARS, but one man dared to ask, "is this a legitimate chicken wing?" So ARE they chicken wings? And is there something suspicious about the way these chains, such a BWW, Domino's, and Papa Johns name their boneless meats. Let's find out exactly what these restaurants are hiding from us...

I remember ordering Wendy’s boneless wings in 2009. The cashier turned around and grabbed a clamshell box of nuggets, poured sauce on it, shook the box and placed it in front of me. It felt like I paid a couple extra dollars to have my nuggets shaken.

I mean chicken nuggets and chicken tenders definitely have more in common with each other than with boneless wings chicken nuggets are breaded and fried, but the breeding is thin so they're still chewy. they're usually small, and are not covered in sauce chicken tenders are also fried, but the breading is thicker so they're far crispy. they also tend to be larger than chicken nuggets. they're also not covered in sauce boneless wings aren't fried, or at least not breaded. they're just cooked chicken covered in sauce

MatPat didn't address the fact that a de-boned wing is probably more expensive than a regular wing. Even if you buy your wings with bone, you need to factor in the labor of de-boning them.

I think a more important comparison for whether there would be confusion over the name boneless wings would be how many restaurants are selling deboned wings as "Boneless Wings" because that would be more likely to create the association between the name and the product in someone's mind and lead to a legal harm when that expectation isn't fulfilled

One thing you didn’t mention was that the places not calling them boneless wings seemed to be pretty much just pizza places vs sit down restaurants that are focused on bar type food. Plus those places seem to have a tendency to default to having slightly smaller pieces and serving then either topped or with a dipping sauce as opposed to tossed. Any place that’s big on wings seems to call them boneless wings.

Food theory idea: what made Breakfast foods come to be considered Breakfast foods and why are they always so isolated from every other food/ meal group? Most restaurants that serve Breakfast foods either refuse to serve them past a certain time or advertise that they are available all day. Lunch and Dinner are usually interchangeable, but why not Breakfast? Why does no other meal get this treatment?

@@dscarmo That's certainly part of it but then why are breakfast food, breakfast foods in the first place? Why do we collectively think of pancakes and waffles as something you only eat for breakfast but hamburgers can be lunch or dinner? Nowadays I'd imagine most restaurants just prepare a bunch of batter for pancakes and waffles ahead of time and freeze it so there's not really any more prep that needs to be done compared to most others foods.

I was about to make the same point. Deboned is the main selling feature of the product, if you have done no effort to debone it, then the customer has been cheated. It’s like advertising you’ve hand kneaded a dough and baked it in an earthen oven, but in reality it’s machine kneaded baked in modern oven. Even if you use a more expensive flour than advertised, it’s still a net financial loss for the customer

As someone who has worked in the Chicken Industry (on the factory side) deboning chicken is one of the hardest tasks in the entire industry. While automation is technically possible it is basically all manual deboning.

@@TezalTube Can confirm. I live in an area where chicken factories are everywhere, and chicken deboning is one of the hardest but well-paying jobs you can get with no experience or degree. I would never do it though, you have to be highly coordinated and the chicken is very cold so you have to wear these thick gloves that still make your fingers cold.
@benish3890
@benish3890 10 ай бұрын
@@ZanesFacebook thighs are much easier to de-bone than wings, though. And you would need to do significantly more of it. And when frying things in oil became a thing, they named them French Fries (short for French Cut, Fried potatoes). Again look it up to confirm because it's what I heard.

It was great when I could order delivery, but then they cut back and made it pick up. But what made me stop returning was "$.99 order in pick up fee" they implemented. You're going to charge me to pick up my own food? I told the poor girl to let corporate know they lost a customer for life over such a greedy thing. I've been pretty vocal over it and hope they either learn or go under.

When I worked there the wings were never frozen. We'd get dozens of cases in every Monday, and they took up most of our walk in fridge. But we had two walk in fridge, one for meat, and one for veggies. The quac was made by adding pico to some premashed avocado mix that came frozen in bags. But this was in 2008, and I left in 2009 and they had been going down in quality the whole time I worked there. I left when they tried to make the employees pay for food waste.

I remember a time when wings were the leftover cut and super cheap. We'd buy them whole and bake them. My grandma told me stories how the wings were her cut. She was the youngest in the family during the depression. Her parents got the breasts, her older siblings fought for the thighs and drums, and poor grandma was left with the wings (which she complained about, but secretly loved). She passed her love of wings onto me, and I can't afford them anymore.

I was confused and actually called the store to find out if anything was different but, not really. They just renamed the poppers to wings and branded them as a 'new item' on their menu when really they were just the same poppers I was getting for 5~ years living here. Not sure when you started doing your research for this video, but this change must have been at best like, 2 months ago as I clearly remember during THIS summer they were still called poppers.

I feel like when saying “chicken wing” it’s more describing the way the chicken is prepped and not so much the cut of chicken. When ordering bone in wings from some places, you can get a mix of both wing meat and drumsticks. Shepherd pie could be seen as a similar issue, where it’s a dish with ground meat, potatoes, cheese, and other vegetables like corn or peas. However, unless the meat is lamb (which it rarely is in restaurants) it’s not actually a shepherd pie. Corn and peas aren’t ingredients in an actual shepherd pie either, but there’s a good chance you’ll get those too. The guy suing wild wings isn’t wrong that he didn’t get “what was advertised” at face value, although if we’re gonna start nitpicking that names don’t match what your getting, then stuff like pineapples really better watch out.
