This is the long awaited video showing how I modified my Homelite 5-ton electric log splitter for foot pedal operation.
• Homelite Splitter vs L...
This modification defeats the safety of the original two-handed operation, but frees the hands to control the splits. If you're not smarter than a maul, you should not make these modifications. This video is for informational purposes only, do not try this at home. I am in no way responsible for injuries resulting from the use or misuse of this information. You're on your own.

Yours is the best solution......not having the motor run continuously. Going to do that to mine, thanks a lot!

I have a totally different splitter with different control positions. However, the general concept is excellent and with a little modification I can make a similar thing work on mine. This was very clear and well explained. Thank you!

Nice fix that gives you the ability to hold the log while splitting if need be. Thanks for sharing.

Two things that help is oil on the wedge and always split from bottom of the log .The bottom of the log is base of the tree some one told me that and it always helps on tough logs 90% of the time

Good idea ! You just ran a strap between the 2 controls right so one stops the other engages till it works looks like a nylon strap or tire tube bungy?
@phineasj.whoopee3301

It's just a piece of flat nylon cord I had laying around. The two controls move simultaneously until the electrical actuator bottoms. Further movement is transmitted to the hydraulic control.

The piece of plywood that I used to stabilize the splitter failed under the weight of a 28 in. diameter green oak. I replaced it with a piece of angle iron which is more than sufficient.

That's genius... thanks for sharing! Just wondering about the pedal placement. Do you prefer to stand behind the splitter, and not at the side?
@phineasj.whoopee3301

Yes, I stand at the end of the splitter so I don't have to reach over it to get the next round out of the truck. YMMV

Buy a cheap foot peddle from e bay lock switch on , plug splitter in foot peddle . Like your table .take off rings ,ware hard shoes and safety glasses .Be careful where you put your free hand! I built a platform on my workmate. Love my 5 ton ,had it for about 3 years.

Pat, can you show a photo or how you lock the switch on AND where do you plug in the pedal?

Plug the splitter into the foot peddle plug the peddle ( I use a short extension cord ) any 110 outlet .Get a good out door cord. Now take a look at the push button on switch . There is a kind of guard that guards the button , drill small hole in each one .i used a small finishing nail to hold the switch in Take care of your free hand ,watch where you have it at at all times. That's why they make it a two hand deal in the first place Five ton or Twenty ton will take your hand right OFF . Be safe and stay.warm There is no other warm like a wood fire wood stove , fireplace, or campfire.
