I would add more of helicopter view on tactical plan of both team, and how they adopted . And what Arsenal might have done different to be more effective VS chelsea side. But again, respect for the good analysis. You really Showed weaknesses of Arteta team with too narrow defending up the pitch, not tight pressing and too exposed spaces in the mid and wings areas. So.... it would the fundamnetal reason (that is, the fact that starts the whole argument) of this result was the "mistake" of the half-assed pressing with Arsenal's No.7 and leaving James wide. His high pressing was inefffective and he was not able to go deep enough to stop the flanks from getting abused. Tactical mistake?

The way Lukaku BULLDOZED! that Arsenal defender - knocking him off his feet and onto the floor - before slotting home his goal: LOLAKU! That sums up Arsenal for the past 10 years: Bullied! Arteta may be a good manager, but as with previous Arsenal managers including the great Wenger: Too much emphasis on skill + tactics and ending up imbalanced when brute Power neutralizes that and bullies Arsenal into defeat. Now even their famed tactics and skill is falling apart (stats look grim). Arsenal have had SO MANY opportunities to sign a solid DM and start rebuilding a strong spine in their team, but instead their transfer policy has made so many inappropriate signings.

Great analysis, I don't have Chelsea as THE favorite but they are certainly a favorite. The improved roster on the field and Tuchel running the show definitely make them real contenders.

Interesting to see these tactical videos lol. Chelsea are a well drilled team, with the way their players are looking to receive the ball, in certain positions/situations. Arsenal probably would've served themselves well, if they played a formation with more midfielders in the center. Chelsea had too many central options to be marked and that left a man isolated too much in midfield for Arsenal. All it took was, one midfielder, to pick the ball up in pockets, where someone is isolated and lay it off wide. Both their goals came from the wide areas of the pitch being free.

4:00 - 4:00 you create the wrong shape. It's been 5-3-2 before, and 5-1-4 previous it. First of all it isn't keep 4-2-3-1 shape when defenseive state, even Arsenal rarely group that shape. Arsenal defensive shape sometimes form 5-1-4 with All forward keep pressing while the ball is still in Chelsea half and form 5-3-2 or 5-2-3 while the ball in Arsenal half. First 5-1-4 defensive shape. If Gooners really watch the game, they will know that several minutes before Lukaku goal Chelsea had possession from Goal kick. Then Arsenal 4 forward (Saka-Martinelli-ESR-Pepe) keep pressing high, and you see Xhaka drop deep into LCB leaving Sambi alone in the midfield. This is have pros and cons from me (and it's clear it's from the instructions). Pros = With 5-1-4, I'm pretty sure Arteta want the players keep pressing high to quickly steal the ball from Chelsea and put 5 players in defensive line it's just because the prevention if Chelsea did a counter attack (yeah with Lukaku, they will win 2nd ball easily due to his Aerial ability). Cons 5-4-1 : it will be hard burden for Sambi cause there's a lot of spot there, but Arteta confident with putting 5 players on defensive line with giving more tightness defensive lines. Mistake : But there's a miss communication from Xhaka and Tierney. When the ball deliver from Jorginho to Lukaku, Xhaka have mistake to pushing higher up to press at the same time maybe position himself to intercept the ball who will deliver to Mount. Also he have mistake for not tell the Tierney to keep himself out wide and be in the left half-space. In that goal too Tierney have a mistake too for tracking Mount instead of keep his position on the left flanks or left half-space. For second goal, it's a same mistake between both of them. Miss communication again and again to cover the left flanks.
