Adidas used to have an obsession with releasing "the roundest ball ever made" for each World Cup. The Jabulani was the peak of this madness. Remember those 99p Super Tele balls you could get from petrol stations that turned every 8 year old kid in to Roberto Carlos? It was like that but at the World Cup.

The shirt being wet test might be more about how well the sweat evaporates from the shirt during the game, it might hang onto it while the other ones dry faster and therefore stay lighter overall

And the type of shirt tested also seems inconclusive. The shirts used in the test is nornal retail replica shirt, with normal dri-fit type. The 2011 Nike player issue jerseys is different in materials (those with air-hole design), same goes with the current nike vaporknit kit. Seems inconclusive. Not that it will bring peace to the world, but maybe can get the fact straight.

I dont even dare to go near those strapless gloves. Gloves are way too expensive now compared to what they cost previously. To spend that kind of money to end up with a bad pair, i wouldnt dare. I dont even see the performance benefit of a strapless gloves. I never meet a keeper that say "oh i iwsh my gloves dont have straps. It would make them better because of XYZ". Theres no additional performance benefits and actually make the glove performs worst.

6:50 i think the reason is simple, it’s very annoying to get their big hands in there 3-5 times per game and could loosen the elastic. Traditional is faster and more comfortable to get the hands in. Also side note, I find Nike shoes uncomfortable for wide feet.

I've been using almost solely a smaller company called West Coast Goalkeeping for years, and I recently bought a pair of those Adidas gloves out of curiosity for the design. I can say that the Adidas gloves definitely are weird, and compared to my preffered West Coast gloves, they are very tight. That might be why some pros don't like them. It took me like 10 minutes and my teammates help to get them on the first time, and once they're on, it's like a second skin. There's almost no padding to them, compared to my West Coast that have 3mm of latex. Also they're double the price if West Coast so there's that

@@SexyBulletBill I've always found Adidas cleats to be more than wide enough for my wider feet. Or, if you can (because for me in California it's actually illegal) try high quality leather cleats. 2:38 there is a light dark pattern on the lighter grey background. It does look a bit like camo pattern. The thing about camo is not just having it the same colour as the background, but it is more about the pattern. Patterns like this makes it harder to discern shapes since movement tend to "blur" the shape a bit. On top the grey blends probably to well with too many backgrounds. So the pattern makes it harder to discern shapes, especially when it moves on top of the background moving, additionally the grey can blend in with too many backgrounds making it really hard to properly discern where the players are or it takes several moments longer to fully focus/discern the object. Those split seconds can make a huge difference

The issue with the Hypervenom 2 was that they were fundamentally different to the original Hypervenom. I had both models myself and the original Hypervenom had that so called "Nike skin" which was supposed to shape the boot during the break in time to suit the foot more and its surface looked like that of a golfball which gave it extra grip all round. The Hypervenom 2 however completely got rid of Nike Skin and instead had a cage built in to support to foot however in result the boot was a lot stiffer, felt heavier and overall was way more similar to the old T90s than to the Hypervenom 1. Eventually for the Euros 2016 Nike added Nike Skin back to the Hypervenom 2 bc a lot of pros complained about it which is very unusual. Usually the only thing that changes about a model (at least the ones available to the public) during its life span is the different colorways that come out every other month.

Something I can actually help with! The cutting of boots like Ibrahimovich does is probably done by people with high foot arch. So if you have a normal, narrow foot - you may not see a difference. But to people with high arch like myself, I assume it would probably make it a bit easier and more comfortable on the foot. You can see Ibra is also tying his boots lower which would imply to me he has high arches as that's the same thing I do personally as well

For the shirt that get heavier, even If the quantity of sweat is right, you didnt count the fact that it dry at the same time. The 2011 shirt might maintain more water in the fabric than the most newer ones, making it much heavier if it doesnt dry fast enough on the contrary of the newer kits.

I remember a couple years back when I was a goalkeeper. We had 3 different balls. The Adidas ball showed in this video and Select balls. 1 of the Select balls was fine but the Adidas and the other Select used to wobble around in the air and made it very difficult to see where the ball was going. Our co-coach, who usually held the goal keeper exercises, wondered why I started letting so many in when they brought out the new balls. He decided to have me shoot a few balls at him. More precisely, have 10 shots of each ball. I first shot the good balls and he could save them with relative ease, saving 8/10. When I switched ball, he noticed immediately that the balls were changing direction mid air. He only managed to save 3 of those. And then I shot the Adidas balls at him and he managed to save 5/10.

I thought a lot of stuff we bought in store are “replica” in nature - balls, shirts, etc / with the pros getting the proper version and the consumers getting a cheaper version anyway?

as a hockey goalie, and an ex football goalie, the lack of straps just make gloves feel insecure. they can stay in place perfectly but without the feeling of them being anchored on it's just really offputting and you think theyre gonna move

with the adidas goalkeeper gloves i think the players prefer to have the strap as it provides some wrist support that you wouldn't have if you wore strapless gloves

In any sport at maximum performance levels, smallest difference in equipment can have unexpected exponential effect on someone's performance due to how "muscle memory" works and how much player psychology plays integral part in player performance. If the player believes something will degrade or improve his performance, it likely will. In most cases if there is a measurable physical difference, it's just a matter of how long it will take someone to adapt. But you have to apply careful timing to add that adaptation period into already busy schedule and players that are already not perfectly happy with their role in the team or their personal life, might at minimum resist adaptation on a sub-conscious level, which is never their own fault - a club must find ways to deal with sub-conscious tendencies of their players, with lack of self confidence, having too much self confidence, superstitious beliefs, etc. What all things in this video have in common is that those ware all marketing decisions made by marketing experts. Key to sport psychology is same as all psychology, you have to listen and listen impartially, open minded. Key to marketing is not to listen, but to make other people listen and put ideas into their mind. Tough thing to balance out, but important one.

@@Oli-Johnson i haven't but professional footballers who wore them did, and it's not rocket science. The increase in propensity for metatarsal injuries is directly related to thinner and lighter boots. In the 70s and 80s the tackling was a lot harder and more frequent yet metatarsal injuries were unheard of
