Reece James fit and in form is thr best RB in the world. But that's 3 disciplinary bans this season (2 straight reds and a retrospective ban for abusing the ref in the tunnel). Not good enough for a captain. I get he's frustrated due to injury. But it's simply NOT good enough. 4 games ban bleeding into next season. He needs to shake off this behavior and fast. Because he is amazing.

It’s a complete and utter farce that Lampety didn’t get red but there’s no denying Reece extended his leg out unnaturally and unnecessarily - he made contact, straight red after coming back into the fold so bloody soon, it’s gutting.

Very poor decision from the captain. He has been playing top flight football long enough to know behaviour such as that doesn’t fly. He needs to fix his attitude fast. At this rate I don’t mind if Gusto is our first choice RB. His assist was sublime, cut across through 4 players

The inconsistent use of VAR is the most frustrating part of it all. If you review James red, you have to send the ref to the monitor for Lamptey's challenge on Mudryk.

Yeah but what's new about that? Complaining about VAR being shit is as pointless as complaining about the UK weather. What Reece James did was incredibly stupid and could've easily cost us 6th as far as he knew. As a captain him doing something petulant like that along with the other straight red and his ban for abusing refs is just not acceptable.

For me the Lamptey foul is a red. Gave Mudryk a concussion so that to me says there was way too much force behind it, especially seeing as how the ball was nowhere in the vicinity.

VAR really nearly robbed us today. Lamptey doesnt get a red for elbowing mudryk . Enough for a concussion sub. Verbruggen doesnt get a red because jackson went two inches to the side of the goal. And then james gets a red for the least bad offense of the lot

Initially I agreed with all of this but looking at the replays I can partially understand the refs decisions. Verbruggen doesn't even touch Jackson so even though plays a major role in bringing him down I'm fine with a yellow. Lamptey should have definitely gotten a yellow because it was just an unnecessary action but the contact is just unlucky because Mudryk gets his head down. It's not nearly as bad if it just connects with Mudryk's chest. Reece just pushes Joao Pedro's foot away to make him fall. That was just way too clear to ignore compared to the rather subtle action of Lamptey. Definitely the right decision to give him a red. Yes, the ref was still leaning towards Brighton but it was nothing outrageous in my eyes.

@@SirEEf13 Spot on. Only dumbfuckery that I don't get is how can a referee acknowledge a touch within a penalty area to rule out a penalty yet not give a corner. In FA Cup semi final too, Palmer's FK hit Grealish's hand and it was somehow ruled out for an accidental handball. And then give a goalkick.

Jesus christ you guys are in denial. I'm a chelsea fan, I love Reece James but what was that? It doesn't matter how bad it was he is our captain and has been missing all season and deliberately kicked out at a running player. It doesn't matter if he only brushed him, he deliberately kicked somebody after being on for what 10 minutes? Stop making excuses for petulance, he is taking the captain band of Connor who has been fit all season and does this shit. It's not acceptable.

This is why VAR sucks, it gives fans a chance to make excuses for players petulance. It doesn't matter if Lamptey punched Mudryk, James is our captain and taking that band off CONNOR. He should keep his head down and put in performances for now after the last red and match ban (and his injury)

I honestly believe VAR had an agenda against Chelsea, no way there’s inconclusive evidence of lamptey straight up driving his shoulder to basically knockout murdryk, absolutely disgusting to say there was no intent and then after penalty review on cucurella, the ref gives the go the ball as if it wasn’t our corner? on top of all that, you can see Joao Pedro INTENTIONALLY try and shove Reece and after failing is when he gets his foot in to clip James but they focus only on the follow through of James. I’m done with the misuse of VAR, could have easily cost us the game.

Don't live in denial. Call a spade a spade. James exhibited violent conduct that nearly cost us the match. He is not a captain material. His conduct and lack of self control exposes him as a tool that can be deliberately targeted by mischievous opponents. Nudge and irritate him, you trigger a lash out from him and Chelsea is a man down.

Joa Pedro steps on his ankle doesn't even get a card but a kick out when you're on the floor and have no real momentum to it is a red is crazy.....I remember when Mcguire kicked Rudiger in the balls after a similar challenge (Rudiger didn't step on his ankle btw he was just over him) and VAR DID NOTHING that day but I'm supposed to believe this was a red???? Reece James has always had that petulance in him. Could easily have been sent off more times in his career. Which is why i thought Chilwell should have been captain. Tbf though id give it to Gallagher permanently if you asked me. Nkunku was brilliant today. Looked really lively, fantastic finish to. Palmer again, what can you really say about him anymore 😂. Brilliant game of football to watch.

I was always worried about Reece as captain. As I’m a fan of the men’s and women’s teams, both Reece and Lauren James have had more than their fair share moments where they do silly, petulant stuff like tonight. It’s so frustrating ‘cause they’re both so so good, their ceilings are as high as they want them to be. But they need to cut out the occasional dumb sh*t!

My problem with the Lamptey shoulder on Mudryk not getting a card is that it can’t possibly be incidental contact the way the commentators and VAR said it was. Lamptey is a good five inches shorter than Mudryk. He had to have extended up to make the contact which would make it intentional. Not a case of two guys running and colliding - a case of a player running up to and then through another.

I 100% agree with you about Reece! He was doing a few silly things before he got injured. Look his class and I love him but cant have that behaviour from your captain! Also it needs to be said, Chalobah has been immense since he came back from injury and seems to get better game by game. We just cant sell him or Gallagher this summer. Even just as squad players. They give everything for the team!

Super Cole goal, that header requires an excellent technique. Nkunku looked strong, physical, and fast. He is a huge upgrade on Mudryk. Chelsea were in the driving seat, dominating and threatening more goals. James kicking out is boned-headed. There is a video referee, it will be noticed.

I'm glad we got over the line in the end but VAR needs to look at itself. Absolute joke officiating in the first half that very nearly robbed us. "inconclusive evidence" when theres about 20 camera angles showing the off the ball elbow is laughable. On a positive note, since Jan 1st, if the season started in 2024 we'd be 3rd now, ahead of Liverpool.

Reece James should be stripped from captaincy. He's always injured or suspended. It's not the first time nor the second where he lefts he's leg against an opponent after being dropped. As captain, you need to be calm headed and show by example. He rarely talks to his team. Gallagher should be the captain.
