@@BosGaurus05 Still, consumer shoes typically have performance features that make sense for the player they are marketing... First thoughts of Giannis is a guy who barrels through the lane stomping around. You would expect Nike would market strength and support as a key feature.

With how performance basketball shoes nowadays are priced right around the same and with just about 10-20 dollars difference this is definitely a step back and is so underwhelming for giannis’ pedigree as an athlete

I’ve been wearing these for a good 3 weeks now, playing basketball at a collegiate level. They feel great. I started doing barefoot training this past summer and was looking for a shoe with a slightly wider toe box. I did feel some digging around my toe box, but not so much anymore (my foot is molding the shoe). Love the low to the ground feel. I am a laterally quick, fast, and athletic player. The minimal design works great. Our ankles are already a propulsion system to themselves. So far happy with the shoes.

Update: the soles are now peeling and I stubbed my toe a few times in them now.

Update: After 2 months of wearing them, the soles peeled even more to the point of having to exchange the shoes. Returned them back to the store for equipment malfunction and got some Bron XXI’s.

@@abd2112 I actually found that such a unique feature; having not included the shank plate. Performance of the shoe felt fine. I could get up easily and move well with them. Only issue was durability with the shoe, along with a few other minimal aspects. I liked the minimalist style, but that kind of compromised on the protective aspect of a shoe. Stubbed my toe a few times easily. Hope that helps.

Giannis has been arguably the best player in the NBA for like the past 4-5 years now, & Nike still has yet to give him a great shoe aesthetically, performance-wise, & tech-wise. That's sad, maybe he's trying to keep his shoes budget-friendly, but that's what his Immortality line is for. I'm from Milwaukee, so obviously I'm a huge fan & I buy each one of his shoes regardless. I think so far, I like the ZF2's the best, I hoop in them the most & I also think they look the best. I hooped in the ZF3's back in December & ended up straining my calf. I was scared because I've torn an Achilles before back in 2018 & it felt almost like that, I felt a pop. After that happened, I watched your ZF3 review & I believe you stated that those shoes may lead to heel & Achilles pain, & that explains what happened to me. I was out for almost 2 months & when I returned, I just went back to hooping in my ZF2's, & have had no issues since.

@@ericnwachukwu Yeah, I honestly think Nike has too many signature athletes now. They should just keep it at 3 signature players like in the early 2010s when it was just Kobe, LeBron, & KD getting signature shoes. All their shoes looked great back then, & most of them were selling out too. I'm sure now with so many signature athletes, it's hard for them to come up with new designs for each person. Like instead of having PG, Kyrie, & Ja, some of their shoe model designs could've gone towards Giannis' shoe line.

I was happy with my zf4's, just snapped the 5th metatarsal in my foot wearing them though. Never broken a bone before either and the landing felt pretty controlled and normal, just a little to the outside/leaned but nothing I haven't done over and over without injury. The x-ray showed the snapped bone exactly where that forefoot zoom unit ends going towards the toe of the shoe. I'm suspicious that the foam collapsed while the zoom unit didn't. I have a high vert but am pretty light. I'm worried about these shoes now, not sure I can trust them again. Only had them for a month.

@@g10118 Idk if this is the issue, but I feel like it might have something to do with the zoom unit being in the forefoot area. The ZF1s & ZF2s both feature a zoom unit in the heel area only, & I hoop in both of those just fine. But when I started hooping in the ZF3s, that's when I started having issues, & that's when the ZF line started putting zoom units in the forefoot instead of the heel. ZF3, ZF4, ZF5 all have zoom units in the forefoot only.

As long as they feel good and play good. Kind of disappointed in the tech with these. The way the midsole looked I expected a full length setup of some sort but ig not. I think having a kd 16 type setup with air in the heel and forefoot zoom would be nice on the zoom freaks

After wearing a these for a few sessions they remind me of the old Nike lunar ballistic tennis shoes they were basically the old Rafa nadal shoes. Super comfortable and grippy these are just not a lot of bounce in them or “performance advantages “ but a nice shoe.

I'm really sad at the lack of tech. I own more freak 4's than any other shoe ever. They just work for me especially just wearing everyday. They even got rid of my PF. Looks like I'm buying more on closeout.

Got a pair of the 4's a few weeks ago. Really like how light they are, good for explosive moves. I could see them being too soft for heavier players but I'm pretty light on my feet. Feels like the shoe is the perfect balance for me. These new ones are very disappointing. A step back in performance and they don't look very good.

Dang, I was hoping the leather would be real, against my better judgement. Very surprising how basic these are. It makes me think that the grid like cuts in the foam under the heel they introduced in the Freak 4 really pleased Giannis, maybe convincing him that the forefoot zoom air pods were no longer necessary and that the foam was all he really needed (+ the zoom air bag). Overall, these seem like a takedown model to me. You should definitely check the new Giannis Immortality model and give them a side-by-side comparison. P.S. What exactly does _"Snake bitten foot"_ actually mean?

I hated the design when I saw the leakage initially; however, after buying it and playing it multiple times, it changed my mind. It has been the best shoes so for me. IMO, its better than the 4s and the shoes are like a lighter/faster version of the Lebron 20s.

Ok, I see. Nike made a different iteration of the Ja 1 (set up wise, not looks wise) with maybe a heavier player in mind. Wider zoom bag and no shank (for whatever reason) but cushion set up seems to be the same. Even similarities in the ball height test. Sneakily elastic foam in the heel, and bouncy zoom unit in the forefoot.

ok so i got a pair in team wolf grey for christmas. i loved it so much, i picked up the "made in sepolia" colorway from finish line. for me, they are incredible shoes, super comfortable. they feel like a low kyrie infinity of sorts. great padding around the ankle, good support. maybe it just didnt need all that tech. it's just a great feeling shoe. i feel this colorway in the video is ugly, and skewed my opinion early on. as other colorways came out, i started liking them more and more. to rank the shoes i've tried in the past year since restarting my basketball passion (i'm 39) 1. nike freak 5 - 9/10 2. nike kyrie infinity - 8.5/10 (tongue is big as hell and doesn't do much above the lace line) 3. nike lebron witness 6/7 - 7.5/10 (good for practice, bad for play - easy to roll your ankle) 4. adidas dame certified - 7.0/10 (wasn't right for me as i had heel slippage, but seemed great for outdoor) 5. nike immortality 2 - 6.5/10(good at the beginning, no cushion, sole sucks once moderately worn 6. puma court rider chaos - 5/10 (probably good for outdoor, but they're absolute heavy bricks, and pinched me on my big toe joint)

Maybe Giannis's line isn't meeting sales expectations as to why the shoe is scaled back tech wise. The Zion 3 looks like it might've got its transformation because of that too.

I suspect you might be right. I think Nike had trouble with the 4's and construction costs vs. sales. I had to return a pair due to the zoom units being pushed out towards the ground on one of the shoes. Second pair wasn't 100% even either but close enough that it didn't feel obviously different under foot like the previous pair did. Sample size of 2 but seems like setting those big zoom units right under the outsole was difficult from a manufacturing perspective.

Great review. Personally my main issue with the sneaker fit. Good LORD these shoes are TIGHT! Mens size 13, there is no wiggle room in the whole front / toe box are, NONE. it is a super exact fit with tons of compression from the top 'leather" that wraps around the front of foot.

@gtoramirez oh nah man. Lol. Overall the foot bed or soles of sneaker where pretty comfy to me. Walking in them I had no issues other then that tight toe box area and it's narrow too so that doesn't help.

i mean i play in 13s and i will continue to play in 13s until i see a shoe that has the stability & durability & containment with the like support but subtle bounce they have that's just so comfortable idk all these new shoes don't move me

I also love 13s. I have been through 4 of them since 2004. They carry more tech than shoes 25 years later. Rear and front zoom bags (the original were bigger though) carbon fiber shank plate and raw materials for support. What else can you ask for?

@@chriskollias9231 yeah like as long as you don't run on your heel it's such a nice shoe, i'm a shooter and no other shoe i've used (especially outdoors) gives me the same level of confidence with my footwork off movement/setting feet. so stable

Idk what it is about these. But I love em. I have a crazy collection with a lot of variety. I want to put these in my top 5ish list. They just perform so well for me. The containment is fine for me as a player who makes a lot of cuts and moves. Didn’t try them for a wile because some of the reviewers I watch basically said they are mid lol but when they went on sale Black Friday for $67 I couldn’t resist. Steal of the year.

They're going to retail for 180 in Canada, so probably 140 in the US, which is gonna be a 10 dollar bump from the 4s. Doesn't really look worth getting for retail imo.
