@@loviebeest idk why they said that, you're right. I took a few limnology classes and dragonfly nymphs can be used as a bioindicator of oxygen levels and pollution since they are pretty sensitive. all dragonflys start out as nymphs in the water then they grow up and become dragonflys. This however is not a dragonfly nymph it is a damselfly nymph

Intrepid Nick The issue never was about life not being able to live. The issue is that normally the life that finds a way is bacteria and algae that will take over the tank and kill everything else.

I like the contraption you made to add water back into the tank. I also like the plastic oval you made to keep the mosquito grass out and allow the light to get through. Very smart ideas.

Did he end up eating your shrimp? It looked more like a damselfly nymph to me than a dragonfly nymph btw.
@HerroDawg270

If it were a dragonfly nymph, all the shrimp would've disappeared seeing as they're voracious predators.

Damselfly nymphs can eat shrimp too though - especially small or newly hatched ones.

It doesn't take that much money. Petco runs dollar per gallon sales 4 times a year (one is currently running till nov 16) pet supplies plus runs them about the same amount. Tanks are always on Craigslist too. A heater is less than 20$ on amazon. For substrate you can literally dig up dirt from your yard and use gravel you find outside too. If not a bag of organic dirt (organic is the most important part) is 10$ or less at Home Depot. They sell 40-50 pound bags of gravel for the same amount of money. Pool filter sand is a great option too sold at pool stores in 40/50 pounds for 10-12$ or black diamond blasting sand sold at tractor supply 50 pounds 12-15$. I highly suggest dirt and gravel or dirt and sand combo. If you choose dirt/sand get MTS snails to aerate the soil to keep it from getting anerobic and yup you guessed it most pet stores view them as pests and will literally just give them to you for free. If not you can get 10 for 10$ online. Buy your plants online from someone who actually sells aquarium plants. Not petco/Petsmart/petsuplies plus unless the plants are growing in water. Better bang for your buck. I've had great success with one particular seller on amazon and Dustin's fish tanks. Lighting can be done extremely cheaply too but I don't have any suggestions for that because I'm not good with light, I just went all out and bought an expensive led after I repeatedly picking terrible bulbs. Check out Dustin's fish tanks how yo set up a ghetto aquarium. If you type it into KZfaq it should come up. He's done 2-3 versions of the video.
