If your footwork sucks, you fighting will suck. I'd say its definitely the most important thing to get right. If you dont have a solid foundation you cant throw a proper cut. Good thing is, once you've learnt it, it also translates to other martial arts.

+gavatron1980 Exactly. We spend much more time on footwork now than we use to.

I developed my footwork from practicing the meyer square at home. I prefer to do it with a sword in my hand, just feels more natural 😃

How do you recommend fixing the problem of people getting too close due to their forward inertia during drills with two or more strikes? For example, Zwerchau to the opponent's left, then throwing another Zwerchau to the opponent's right in response to being offset? I find that students, myself included, tend to get so close with that second Zwerch that they're practically hitting with the strong. Do you think a drill where the opponent attempts to stop the second Zwerch with the slice or even a grapple would encourage control in that second Zwerch and the right distance management? Love your videos, by the way.

+Kristen “Kwizzy” Argyle Good question. I believe the forward inertia may be the culprit. Ideally, we should be balanced in every step, not leaning forward, needing to step again just to keep from falling. The drill you suggest is a great test of proper range, but does not fix bad steps. Practice different size steps as well as different directions.

Excellent. Not far from a wrestling stance.

I appreciate your effort and the time you took to make the video. However, let me give you my personal input and try not to take it personally. Too much talking, not enough showing. I watched 5 minutes of the video and still have no grasp of the proper footwork. Why not just make a short video showing proper footwork and then common mistakes, with text commentaries below or in between footages? I believe it would take a lot less time and would be a lot more convenient, especially for revisiting, which is necessary for learning. You can even add timestamps for further convenience if the video becomes longer than 3 minutes.

Tork789 this was an introductory video, which necessitate more talking. The video series that followed this on Sword Carolina Online cover details and drills for people to do. Thanks for your input.
