Every day we complete plenty of tasks that we don't care about. So why are the projects that we're actually passionate about, so much harder to complete?
Huge thanks to Robert Swyers for the help filming me snowboard!

“When it comes to our own creative work and passion projects, it can feel like there is no consequence we can tell ourselves we will get to it another time, but I think it’s easy to forget our cost of inaction. While you are tinkling and trying to make a project perfect you are missing out on the opportunity to learn and evolve. The actual consequence comes in the form of missed opportunities and growth.” Wow! So true 💯

After a decade of work trying for perfection, I now go with the law "done is better than perfect". That's not in the cynical sense. "Done" is usually gets you 90% there (and many are usually happy with that). And if time remains on project, then go for perfection

Awesome video as always Jake! I know as I have been learning video editing, I've had to set a timer on my phone. 45 minutes, get up and take a break. As someone with ADHD, I can hyper focused a lot of the time and end up there for hours, then I get frustrated, and then irritated, which just screws the entire creative process up. I so wish I could ski and snowboard again!

This video is so inspiring! I appreciate that you said the consequence of inaction is a missed opportunity for growth. I was so afraid you were gonna say “someone else will be living your dreams” or something in the realm of comparison to others. Every one of your videos is so unpredictable and that’s the most refreshing thing on KZfaq. ❤️

As an aspring KZfaqr I really appreciate your content!. While I was already familiar with this issue, I liked how you pointed out that inaction prevents growth and oppertunities, I do believe that a lot of mediocre work can in the long run lead to expertise in contrast to trying to be perfect and putting out low amounts of work.

Just found your channel and absolutely love this! We're constantly waiting until the last possible second to get stuff done. We're also both perfectionists, so we're constantly thinking something is rubbish and then when we end up releasing it, it's really well recieved. Done is much better than perfect.

I loved this video, and also the perfectionist part I can really relate to… honestly when I try to make the project “perfect” I lose the sense of it and even my own passion to transmit into it. Of course being careful and following techniques is always necessary but to prolong the established deadline for a project is also like you said a diminish of growth. Thank you a lot!!

You're such an amazing storyteller, man! I relate to this 100%. I fall into the "perfectionist" trap a bit too much and end up getting nothing done. I'm slowly learning to just push the publish button even tho I might not be 100% satisfied with it. Without action, there will be no growth and without the growth you will never reach that potentional you want to achieve.

This man knows how to tell storys ;). He also speaks to me😅, it's always the same. Just pushing the passionate projects to the side, because I don't have "enough time" for this and doing my thinks near the deadline, because I either didn't wrote enough in the time I had or that I just did not get to finish it, because I just do to much. It's usually that I either do 20% early 80% late or the other way around. But late is always near the deadline.. I hate myself for that, because it's just stressing me out the last few weeks
