Welcome to our historic home tour of the Horace Franklin Rogers MANSION for sale! At the end of the 19th an beginning of the 20th century Fort Smith was a border town; the last stop on many wagons trains headed out West. Just past the city limits was then Indian Territory, not Oklahoma.
Infamous outlaws like Belle Star, the James, Dalton and Younger gangs many more used Fort Smith as their home base with easy access into Indian Territory, where the laws of the United States did not extend. The town contained both high society and a nefarious underground, part of which was a thriving Red Light district with a slew of legal and highly regulated brothels.
On the opposite side of the societal coin were the business man building huge empires, fortunes and homes at the beginning of the 20th century. One of those business men was Horace Franklin Rogers, who owned a brick manufacturing plant. Once can see his bricks used on the exterior of this beautiful home.
The interior is an eclectic mix of a multitude of styles that were popular at the time, and those that were just coming into vogue as the home was being built. The inside features elements that were popular in Vicotorian homes, Art Nouveau homes, as well as Arts and Crafts era structures and even a touch of Art Deco.
Best of all, a huge majority of the original design and details remains intact. Yes, this home is a fixer-upper. The last time she was updated was in 1997, so many late 20th century remuddles need to be removed. But once your rehabilitation is complete you will have a show place ready to be enjoyed for generations to come!

My brother owned this house from 1992 until he passed away in 1995. I then owned it until I sold it in 1996. I loved this house. It was so wonderfully built!

I immediately started to plan furniture layout … I even began a list of cleaning projects and products that I would need, trying to keep a running tally of costs as you took us through each room - and quickly came to the conclusion that without the lottery jackpot this beautiful home will live in my dreams. This place is absolutely stunning…I hope her next owner will be her champion so that she can shine as brightly as she once did.

WOW!! Genuinely just love the layout of this home! Extremely well thought out. And expertly designed for its time. And just a miracle from above that not only does it still have all its beautiful built-ins, but they weren't painted! I firmly believe there's a proper circle for wood to be painted. However, it would have been criminal for either the gorgeous buffet or bookcases to be painted. Ooohhhh, just love ❤️ this one!! Cannot thank you enough for sharing! Totally brightened my WEEK!

This house is gorgeous, thank you for sharing! That stained glass and unpainted woodwork is to die for! ❤️ My cousin owns a 1901 Queen Anne that really does have a ballroom on the third floor, though I agree with you, going up the servants staircase to the third floor is strange! It doesn’t cover the entire third floor, but it’s there. The house was a church at one time, and some services were held up there.

I do like your series a lot, the homes are wonderful. The windows you call stained glass we call leadlight both in the UK and here in New Zealand and stained glass is the more church style of window design when the glass is made up of multiple pieces of intricate design coloured glass or painted glass. Keep showing us those beautiful houses we all want to buy

I love this style of house, so beautiful. There is a beautiful craftsman home in my neighborhood with a original front door similar to that, I think it might be 4' wide. Lots of old houses have soft wood floors on the upper levels, not only is it cheaper but it's also quieter

This has always been one of my favorite houses.....so gorgeous. It’s on one of the busiest roads in town (named after the owner of this house) on a great lot. As long as I can remember it has been a commercial property. It has been a bed and breakfast (as shown with the odd bathtubs) and an event hall. I am glad much of the original woodwork and lighting hasn’t been modernized. Thanks for showcasing it!!

Thank You! This is one of my favorite tours. The 'transitional' design elements are all so elegant, and it doesn't hurt that the stained glass is green and red, always my first choice. I prefer seeing the perfect proportions of this house without other people's furniture, as the gorgeous woodwork (I'm practically swooning!) can shine. What joy to see so many of the original features preserved...but that's what we are all about here, right? :)

I enjoyed the tour. I've seen this house listed but wasn't sure, since it had last been a bed and breakfast. Ft. Smith is a beautiful small town. It was emptied out, after Bill Clinton signed NAFTA. Strange he destroyed his own state. Most of the manufacturing left and went to China. You'll see listed CEO's mansions listed for $13 million. Even the old Acme Brick Company finally closed down. I was hoping under Trump, Ft. Smith would get back to employing everyone again, from the small towns surrounding Ft. Smith. Love to see this house restored again. Very beautiful and a part of history.

I live in Fort Smith and I've always wondered what it looks like inside. I knew it would be beautiful, but wow! It was a bed and breakfast for a while, and they used to do a lot of weddings and receptions. I drove past it the other day and used the circle drive on the side to turn around and noticed that the carriage house has fallen in and it's not being looked after and it just makes me want to cry to see this gorgeous house falling into ruin. I hope someone will buy it and save it. It would be such a shame to lose such a beautiful piece of history.
