I am thoroughly impressed with this clone, I got mine from Fasttech for 14 bucks, shipped. I cannot believe how high quality this clone is.

Forgot to mention that yes, I still have it. It's still kicking, still sharp and I do carry it probably 1/5 days or so. It's gotten quite easy to open after much use, but I still love it. I haven't touched the edge and it's still pretty damn sharp.

+Tyler Durden i learned about FT through a neighbor who vapes. he loves them, and thus far i have had no issues with them, when you get your spyderco copy please tell us how it is and that you actually got it.

You have to find them by knife material or Spyderco Model Number. Like these searches "C10 Knife" "C187 Knife" or "CTS knife" XHP knife, etc, etc So C10 would be an Endura, C187 I think is a Southard, etc. Southard, Endura, Rubicon are all good. Just get out the Spyderco catalog, find the "C" numbers and start searching! You do have a Spyderco catalog don'tcha? The Hungarian clone is made real well, I'll agree

Clones are better then originals. Much cheaper and the quality is almost the same. That's how you Capture the world market.

Thanks for review and comparison, Les! All well noted and observed in your video. Originals are rear now days, but clones are widely spread. I would buy an original one for my collection, but they are not easy to find in good conditions... Probably will have to buy a clone to play with and through away when it's comes out of interest/order

Awesome video. I just got one off ebay and compared, very happy, great video. Thank you. PS noticed: If you look at 6:14 seconds on the video, you can see that if you draw and straight 90 degree line from the beginning of T letter (word Taichung) the line on the genuine Spyderco will not intercept the rounding the thumb hole diameter circle. However on the fake the letter T falls within the frames of the hole...

Hey, I had totally forgot about my Hungarian. Glad you got one. There's been a bit of crackdown on Spyderco clones and they are getting hard to get.

@@lesgarten Did you ever need to resharpen the CTS-XHP steel? I know its a great steel and I personally really enjoy my M390 blades. CTS-XHPas I see the characteristics online, it looks pretty close to M390 and CPM 20CV in many ways - edge retention, corrosion resistance, etc. How was your overall experience with it?

@@TheKnifeGuy Never had to resharpen any of my XHP blades. I usually carry something in Superblue or VG-10. I got a lot of knives that hand out and never leave home if you know what I mean!

@@lesgarten VG-10 love it! The most practical blade - Japanese Seki City Vg10s or American made D2s. That's what I carry mainly. I collect as well and they stay on shelf for display (and youtube videos) I do not carry any of my Hinderers, Microtechs or other rare collectible folders (Lone Wolf Knives, 1980s Benchmades, 1990s Kershaws, etc) too rare and too tough too find, too expensive to abuse them.

Popped over to ebay to take a gander, one seller is definitely passing off an Hungarian clone and a number are only showing manufacturer provided pictures. Really perfect clones are going to make it impossible to sell Spydercos on the secondary markets causing collectors not to want to buy them in the first place.

Excellent video. Subscribed. Ordered an original 13" Bowie style knife from Hong Kong, package went missing. Seller offered me a free Spyderco clone which I took. Glad to see I got a good deal. Might sand take the finish off the handle and maybe create some sort of knurling pattern for grip. Or sell it to recover my lost money. What's a fair amount for a decent clone like in vid? 20-30?

Ive never heard of snyone trying to pass off a clone for the real one . I have heard of some one doing it by not knowing they had a clone .but they quickly made good when they found out !!!

If you were never going to buy the 300 dollar knife in a million years because it wasn't in your budget; then you really aren't hurting the bottom line of the original designers and makers. In other words, the fake is not competing for sales with the original. A ten dollar Rolex knockoff isn't competing with a 10,000 dollar real Rolex. Although I've heard f you come from a middle income environment and you're wearing a real Rolex everyone is constantly asking you, "Is that a real Rolex." Apparently, it gets irritating in a very short amount of time.

Why are you guys trying to justify buying from somebody who is stealing from Spyderco? "Think of it this way..." is essentially saying "so imagine this isn't theft." Please stop trying to make it ok. It's not. It's not ok for me to make a POS knife in China with slave labor and slap a Spydero (or any other maker's) branding on it. It's theft, plain and simple. This is no different than paying $100 for a $1000 car stereo that was stolen. "I was never going to pay $1000 for it anyway, so it's ok." No, it's not. In both cases you are supporting theft.

I like the clone better i dont like that polished finnish. and i like that its bigger. its funny the clone comes with nicer packaging in the form fitted foam. lol yeah if quality is comparable why not.

The clone is pretty nice and worth the money more than the real one. But... the real Spyderco is much better made and much better quality. It is a really nice knife.

Can you link me the clone? Or at least tell me what they list it as? I know they rarely use the real name when listing the knives, and I feel like i'll be searching for hours by using just, "Spyderco".

+Guitarplayabreh ****************************************************************OK, I'll teach you how to find any knife you want. First thing is, Aliexpress and DHGATE are really cracking down on these guys for copyright. This way of finding stuff will work for all things, not just spyderco and not just knives. So in this particular case, go to google and search spyderco hungarian, you'll get the model number that will start with a C. You want the numerical model number, like Southard is C156 blah, blah, blah. You drop the blah blah blah parts of the model number that signify blade type, color, etc. A military is something like C36, and endura C10. Then if you are looking for Southards for instance, you search "C156 Knife". That should get you a fair amount. You can also search for "CTS Knife" or "G-10 knife". The easiest way is with the model number, like C10, C36, C81, etc. Hope this helps *****************************************************************************************************

+NAVAJERO RESILIENCE They are not the same though. This knife is pretty well made but it is not a Spyderco in Finish, and who knows what kind of steel it is. The best clone is the Spyderco Southard Titanium. The Military's are sometimes good, same with the Para 2's. But it is very hit or miss depending on what factory cloned it. Some are good, some are absolute crap. Spyderco is Spyderco, good steel, good fit and finish, usually great fit and finish. It you can't afford to drop the $$$ on a real Spyderco, these are cheap alternatives, but don't kid yourself, they are not the same thing. In general the fastener(screws) steel is crap, the blade steel is probably a "decent" steel but not on par with the exotics that Spyderco uses. A lot of them come with the threads for the screws already borked up, so don't think you are going to be taking them apart a lot and goofing around with them. A lot of the screws are glued in because the steel is so soft I think they do this as a preemptive strike against over torquing.

+Les Garten I have several Spyderco Clones and some original. As you say, there are quite decent copies and others are crap. For normal use, the clones are well, without demanding more. What I have very clear is that I'm not willing to pay even $ 100 for a knife ... Spyderco prices are very, very exaggerated. And if I pay those prices, then I will not venture to use the knife if scratched. I prefer other brands, good and inexpensive.

+NAVAJERO RESILIENCE I absolutely agree that Spyderco prices are high. The Chinese could own the knife market with some design insight, good materials, and the notion to quit cutting costs by bad Quality control. A lot of times a Chinese manufacturer will cut his cost by using cheap components on things that can't be easily seen. Like capacitors, switches, and volume controls in audio gear. Same thing with knives, they use cheap fasteners and soft metals.

NAVAJERO SPARTAN I collect clones of stupid high priced production knives that should be between $50.00 -$100.00 butt are priced far beyond understanding . I try to get 2 so I can mod one to work as good if not better than the real one !!!

Great video comparison. Some guy on a local Facebook knife group was trying to sell me a clone for $25. Probably knows it's a fake because I imagine he would have asked more if it was real. Seems like the $25 wouldn't be a total waste based on the workmanship of the clone, but I decided to pass because it's wrong what those companies do.

Just looked at Dgate and fasttech and they don't carry the Hungarian anymore and ebays is $36. Spyderco must be clamping down.

Anyone that collects knives should easily pick out the clone .if you can't your not only going to get ripped off you're going to get ripped off a lot ! Do something that you know !

I have a collection of high end priced for no reason production knives . When I see a knife that is out of line on price on production knives I look for the clone . Most of the time other than fit and finish they are the same . Some time even the same materials . I am a user of knives and I have many user knives .when I see an over priced ( way way over priced ) I get the clone as a way of exsorsizing my buying power as a price regulator . As the other half of the capitalist equation ( not used enough) . When the price of cereal got to high ? The boycott was employed the price quickly came into line with quantity and quality ! The way it is now we don't sick together so the other guy gets left out . If its ripping the so called American knife company ( I will pay a little more for American but I'm not bending over with no lube for the over priced production knife ) . A fellow American wouldn't do that . To another American These companies loyalty isn't to the customer like the fan boys loyalty is to them . They act like your not on the team if some one gets a clone .well I don't want to be on a team with a knife company that treats other team members that way ! But its not the companies themselves ( mostly ).its the companies lawyers !
