Bond (Roger Moore) ski’s down the mountain pursued by assassins on motorbikes in FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981). Filmed in Cortina, Italy, the motorbikes’ wheels were fitted with special spike-laden tyres to ensure they could grip the snowy ground while travelling at 50mph.

So much fun stuff in this sequence 0:35 - the 'twang' sound from those flags as Bond goes through 😆 1:57 - the guy who gets the cake thrown in his face 3:17 - Bond waves to the bobsleigh crew 3:21 - Bond signals to the crew to go faster (pure Roger Moore) 😆 3:38 - the "wheee" sound effect and cow as Bond flies out of the bobsleigh run 😆 3:49 - the chicken sound effects as Kriegler goes through the barn and then hits the log in a comical crash I watched this scene over and over as a kid, probably one of my favorites.

Actually you bring up an interesting idea, what other action scenes in this series could be categorized as a ‘long action scene’. Perhaps the You Only Live Twice and Skyfall climax or more fittingly the Afghanistan action third act in The Living Daylights, or the ending chase of Licence To Kill
@FromVadimWithLove
@FromVadimWithLove 4 жыл бұрын
@@GuineaPigEveryday I believe it all comes down to crafting the action scene from muliple set-pieces (tension moment in the forest + the ski jump + the chase in the forest zone + the bobsled chase) and the dynamic of the scene. Not like in Spectre for example (driving in the city + ton of exposition during driving in the city + driving near the river). You should be able to see the progression of the action-scene and change of the locations. I think that's how it works.

One of the things people love about Bond henchmen is their dedication, from Oddjob fighting even when a nuclear bomb will blow him up or when Gobinda goes outside on top of a plane just to kill Bond or however many times Jaws almost died at life-threatening odds to do his job etc. This guy too, is the only guy left chasing Bond and crashes through a barn, throwing the wreck of his vehicle and weapon after him in anger trying to kill Bond. Breathtaking action; ice skating chase at its very best. Undoubly, the bond movie was sublimating stuff.

While I love Live and Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me, I think this takes the top spot for Moore’s era. I think it should have been his last film as well.

John Glen was such a brilliant action director. He tended to be a bit blunt & rudimentary tackling more subtle dramatic scenes, so he'll never be described as being a 'great director'. But if you want a rollicking action scene then he was always on point.

Best and most hilarious Bond ski chase, only just beating View to a Kill's. The bloke that stands up with a glass of wine when Bond skis through the outdoor dining area was also in similar cameos in both Spy Who Loved Me (on beach when Lotus remerges from water) and Moonraker (when Bond tears up Venice town square in his gondola).
