After helping his daughter rescue a bear cub (with the help of Animal Planet's Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter from Wild Bear Rescue), Greg returns to the bush that was devastated by wildfires. He meets up with Joe ‪@CanadianFunGuy‬ and discovers a diverse bounty of wild plants and mushrooms bursting through the recently scorched earth. Greg sautés and boils his foraged food, while also enjoying it raw, and even making a nutritious green TEA from the plants! He and Finn also encounter MORE BEARS!
Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter: www.wildlifeshelter.com
Meet Greg at the Open House on July 1st: www.wildlifeshelter.com/p/ope...
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

The amount of effort put into these videos and the perfect combination between humor and useful information of Greg's videos is just outstanding. Even though i'm from Belgium and most of the information is not applicable for me due to my region. I find these videos so informative and amusing. It keeps me entertained for weeks. It's a perfect balance between the two. Keep up the good work!

Greg I think you have more knowledge about wild plants than my entire collection of books. That one weird mushroom was a false morel I think. I'd love to see more videos about wild plants because I think you're one of the best teachers in that subject and most people don't realize that they can use almost every "weed" in their yard. If you ever decide to come back to Maine you're more than welcome at my home in Phippsburg.

I vaguely remember seeing a false morel when I was little.. My dad or uncle found it while they were hunting for morels and brought it back and showed me it, and told me it was poisonous. I just remembered that was like a red-ish brown, and it had a solid body. Wasn't hollow like edible morels. I wasn't paying attention in this episode and missed it.

You are also a great resource to follow for wild edibles and bushcraft as you have the knowledge and can show and explain it all to us thank you. I've gone fishing about three weeks after a fire here in Gogama Ontario and was successful, as for wild edibles Nope not a long enough wait unfortunately. I bought morels once and the plastic bag was covered with spore dust soo being a plant nut and do not let anything go to waste...I put some potting soil or leaves in the bag and got it all off the bag and put them in avocado leaves and grape leaves...there is some kind of mycelium out there. I had heard that morels only grow in an oak forest, so I am glad that was cedar and birch there. Gives me hope.

The northern part of North America is so lucky. Morrell mushrooms have a lot longer growing season up there. They only grow for roughly 2-3 weeks in the spring where I'm at. And they're not easy to find here either.. But when I was a teen in 2007, we had a bad ice storm. Then in the spring, we got super lucky and found over 300 in one area in a holler. I don't know what conditions caused that miracle to happen, but I never experienced a single spot that was ever that productive before.. And outside of that year, we never really found another mushroom in that area again.

I like Stinging Nettle and Eastern White Pine teas. Love them with lemon, too. Mouth watering watching you cook those morels and onions. I don't care for liver though any meat goes with onions and morels. In the old days, schools would close with the opening of deer and morel seasons. Such skills used to be far more important than indoctrination. Today, however, the schools remain open, but 60 to70% of the kids call in sick for the season openers. Gives me hope that good parents still exist. I thank God for you, Greg. You're rare and you're needed. I'd love to see you take a group of kids on an adventure. Nothing prettier than a bear family. Many thanks.
