Climbing the Aig. du Chardonnet via the Forbes Arete. At grade AD this outing is a pretty big undertaking for the grade with a sustained level of difficulty throughout the day. It is never tough, but it keeps on going. The exposure on the route is great and the climbing lovely - it earns its place as a popular route!
I have made particular effort to show the descent. This has been an issue for people I know including a 36 hour epic by three friends. I hope it proves helpful! If so drop it a like :)

I'v done this great climb twice, 1st with Ray and Marilyn Banks in 1978, then again with Ian Freebie in 1980. All members of the Doncaster Mountaineering Club. Glad you showed the descent, we hat been warned in the hut the night before to go all the way along the ridge before descending. One big Ab, then long but easy walk back to the hut. Thanks for the great video, it was like being there again. Dave.

The route seems to get a lot of epics for Brits. With no traffic and good neve instead of the loosely bonded layers of snow that we had you could get round it pretty fast. Route finding must be a large part I guess, so I’m glad you think it may help! Thank you!

I don't know, but maybe because of it's relatively low grade, then it takes some by surprise at just how sustained and exposed it really is. Always a good idea to do your homework, and ask around the campsites and bars in Chamonix for those who have done the route. Great to see a video on here by a Brit as most are usually by French climbers.

Very true! It is committing for the grade and a long way at the grade. Haha, I'd noticed the lack of brits - ah well I'm trying to cover what I have done when it's appropriate...more to come too!
