𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 : Force: Force is any interaction which when unopposed produces acceleration in an object. • It's SI unit is Newton denoted by capital N • It's fundamental unit is Kgm/s^2(force = mass x acceleration therefore Newton = kg× m/s^2 ) • It's CGS unit is Dyne 1N = 10^5 Dyne • Acceleration is produced due to force. Force is the reason behind acceleration. • Force is of two type: 𝐈. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐈. 𝐔𝐧𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 i. Balanced force : set of forces which produce zero acceleration is called balanced force. In points : • Net force acting on the body is zero. • Net acceleration is also zero. • It is the reason behind maintaing the previous inertia of the body i.e Rest, motion or direction. • The body is moving according to the previous inertia i.e Rest, motion Or direction. ii. Unbalanced force : the set of forces which produce non zero acceleration is called unbalanced force. In points: • Net force acting on the body is non-zero. • Net acceleration is non-zero. • It is the reason behind changing the previous inertia of the body. • The body is in accelerated motion. 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚 : The property of a body to oppose the change in its state i.e rest, motion or direction. • Inertia is directly proportional to the mass of the body. • More the mass, more will be the inertia. 𝐄𝐱 of inertia of 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭: i. When a car accelerates abruptly our lower body, which is in contact of car moves forward but our upper body remains in rest due to inertia and we move backward. ii. When the branch of tree is shaken vigorously, the leaves, fruits or flower hanged on the branch fall down. The branch of tree comes in motion due to shaking but the leaves, fruits and flowers remains in rest due to inertia and get detached. 𝐄𝐱 of inertia of 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:- i. When the bus stops suddenly, we move forward. ii. Bicycle moves for some distance until frictional force stop it even without peddling. 𝐄𝐱 of inertia of 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: i. We found it difficult to change the direction of a bike moving with high speed . This is due to inertia of motion as the bike is moving in the straight direction and opposes to change it's direction. •Galelieo Galilee said that "the body is naturally either in rest or in uniform motion". • An external unbalanced force is required to change the state (rest Or motion) of an object. Then after Isaac Newton gave his three laws of motion : i. Law of inertia ii. Law of mass and acceleration iii. Law of motion #𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐀𝐖 :- • It states that, " A body at rest will remain at rest and a body in motion will continue in motion in a straight line with a uniform speed, unless an external unbalanced force is applied on the body " • If a body is moving with constant acceleration then constant force is appliyng on the body (continuously) . # 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 :- • It is the quantity of motion contained by a body. • It is the product of mass of a body and it's velocity. • It is denoted by small (p). • It's SI unit is Kgm/s or Kgms^-1. • It's formula :- Momentum = mass x velocity p = mv • Change in momentum is denoted by ∆p (pronounciation: delta p ∆ is used to denote change ). #𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐀𝐖 :- • It states that, " Rate of change in momentum is directly proportional to the external unbalanced force applied on the body." • Acceleration produced in a body is directly proportional to the force acting on it and inversely proportional to the mass of the body. • Rate of change in momentum is denoted by ∆ p. • Therefore, Force ∝ Change in momentum / Time. F ∝ ∆p / ∆ t. # 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐅= 𝐦𝐚 ( 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 = 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 × 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧) • F = ma is a derived formula. Derivation :- F ∝ ∆p / ∆t F ∝ mv - mu /t (mv = mass × final velocity , mu = mass x initial velocity). F ∝ m( v-u) /t F ∝ ma (a = v-u/t ) F = kma (where k is constant..) The value of k in SI unit is 1, so the above equation becomes:- F = ma #𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: To remove propotionality we have to put a constant, like we done : F ∝ ma F = kma (k is constant). #𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐋𝐀𝐖 • It states that, " Whenever one body exerts force on another body, the second body exerts equal and opposite force on the first body. • In other words, " To every action their is an equal and opposite reaction". • Ex:- we walk (force on ground, action ; force on foot reaction), we swim etc.. # 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫 • Acts on two different bodies • Action-reaction pair has force of same nature. • Forces are collinear • No delay
